Paul’s Picks: Week 15

The fantasy playoffs are officially in full swing, which means our margin for error has shrunk to zero. Every start/sit decision could mean the difference between advancing or falling short. So, let’s take a look at some names at every position that I believe will exceed expectations or let you down in this crucial week.

DFS Week 11 Recap

We’re now through Week 11 in the NFL and things are still never as they seem. A game that was a predicted shootout in Kansas City vs Dallas showed to be a complete bust. Josh Allen once again failed to exploit a weak secondary, and Ryan Tannehill threw four interceptions against the Texans. With that being said, let’s see how my weekly DFS picks played out!

DFS Week 9 Recap

What an absolutely crazy week of upsets! The presumed best quarterback on the slate couldn’t lead his team to even score a touchdown against the Jaguars. THE JAGUARS! I feel like we’re all in a dream and that this week is a lie! With that being said, let’s see how my weekly DFS picks played out!

Week 8 Streamers

It’s now Week 8, which means we are about halfway through the fantasy season. For those off to a good start, time flies when you’re winning. For others who haven’t, this may be a “must-win” type of week. Nonetheless, you need to key in on streaming options this week. We can all use the extra advice now that the fantasy postseason is inching closer. Throughout this series, we will provide the best weekly options to stream at quarterback, tight end, and D/ST. Keep in mind, each streaming option will be below 50% owned, according to ESPN leagues.

Redraft: Week 7 Buy/Sell

Hello, fellow fantasy managers. My name is Matt Ward, and I will be substituting for the Draft Director, Chris Miles, in this week’s edition of Redraft: Buy/Sell. Chris begins every Buy/Sell article with a personal disclaimer that I felt would be pertinent to quote.

“If someone’s value is too high, I might tell you to sell or if I think their value will decrease soon, he could also be a sell. I will give my reasoning for why each player falls in a certain category. I will attempt to have the format consistently be a buy and sell for each position, but that may increase or decrease depending on the week. I do not want to put a QB or TE on my list just to fill the space if they do not truly deserve it. So, you can trust that all of the players I will talk about are relevant.”

I want to add to that by saying I would never advise a reader to make a move I would not personally make myself. My intentions will always be to provide actionable reasoning behind my evaluations. Now let’s make some trades.

Paul’s Picks – Week 7

I’m not going to lie, the “starts” were brutal in Week 6. Taylor Heinicke, Chase Edmonds, Kenny Gainwell, Tee Higgins, and Michael Pittman failed to provide average performances, let alone exceed expectations. I refuse to take the L on Kadarius Toney, though, who had three receptions for 36 yards before being injured in the first quarter. Unfortunately, with six more teams on a bye this week, my job won’t be getting any easier. As always, I’ll be bringing you names at every position that I believe will exceed expectations or fall flat. Let’s get into the picks. Starts: Quarterbacks Ryan Tannehill, Titans vs. Chiefs As predicted, Ryan Tannehill underperformed in a tough matchup against the Bills. However, I’m expecting a bit of a bounce-back in Week 7. The Chiefs are allowing the 2nd-most points to opposing QBs this season even after limiting Taylor Heinicke to just 10 points last week. With A.J. Brown back in the lineup, and Patrick Mahomes forcing the Titans into passing situations, I believe Tannehill can come through with his second top-12 finish of the season.   Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins vs. Falcons Tua looked good in his first game back from injury. He threw for 329 yards and two TDs against the Jaguars, finishing as the QB10 for the week. He should get DeVante Parker back in the lineup for a Week 7 matchup against the Falcons, who have been carved up by Jalen Hurts, Tom Brady, and Taylor Heinecke. He’s a solid fill-in if you have Allen, Prescott, Herbert, or Cousins on bye. Starts: Running Backs

DFF Redraft Recap – Weeks 1-4

We are four weeks into the fantasy football season, and already the NFL looks a lot different than it did heading into Week 1. Devastating injuries, big breakouts, and shocking busts have likely reshaped the landscape of your fantasy league, as well. At this point, we’ll begin to see which teams are contenders and which teams are just pretenders.

In this article, I’ll be giving you a behind-the-scenes look at the DFF Redraft Championship league standings. I’ll provide a brief overview of each team and make a prediction about their rest-of-season performance. Ready for the tour? Let’s start in the basement.

Paul’s Picks – Week 3

Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Jones, Cortland Sutton, and Mike Williams were big hits in Week 2, and sitting Saquon Barkley and Brandon Aiyuk worked out nicely. Elijah Mitchell had some bad luck near the goal line, I was evidently wrong to doubt Michael Pittman, and I might have to give up on Marquez Callaway. But now we’re on to Week 3. As always, I’ll be bringing you names at every position that I believe will exceed expectations or fall flat.

Let’s get into the picks.

Countdown to Kickoff: Day 1

This will be the final article of twelve, counting down the days until we can once again sit and watch this sport that we love (and dominate our fantasy leagues in the process). Each article will have a numeric theme, which will also count down as each day ticks the calendar. In this piece, I’ll be discussing the top-10 players who will increase their dynasty value in the 2021 NFL season. So, without further ado, I am thrilled to bring you DFF’s 2021 “Kickoff Countdown”!

Kickoff Countdown Day 9: 9 Hardest Players to Project

Welcome to the fourth entry in our Kickoff Countdown series, counting down the days until we can once again sit and watch some real football! As you already know, each article has a numeric theme, which also counts down as each day is ticked off the calendar. In this piece, I’ll be discussing the nine (see the theme?) players that I had the toughest time projecting and what I ultimately expect out of them this season. Not only is it a lot of fun to look at some realistic outcomes for these players, but looking at these projections can also help you to confidently select one player over another when you are on the clock, even if those two players appear almost indistinguishable at first glance. So, without further ado, I give you my nine hardest players to project for the 2021 season.

Soothsayers Roundtable: Quarterback Carousel

Beware of the Ides of March, the date March 15th was viewed by the Ancient Romans as a deadline for settling debts. The year was 44 BC and the Soothsayers informed the Dictator that their readings indicated death. A soothsayer is a minor priest also known as a haruspex, otherwise known for practicing animal sacrifice and reading the remnants of the body for signs from their deities. The practice of animal sacrifice is very similar to us fantasy players praying to the fantasy gods for a player they roster to get put back in for the goal line work as they fret a close competition. Back in Ancient Rome, the dictators and government generals would often consult with the Soothsayers regarding future war campaigns.

DFF Redraft League: Drafting from the Two Spot

Welcome, #DFFArmy to Dynasty Football Factory’s Redraft season kickoff! This year looks to be even more competitive than last year as we added two teams to the league, bringing the total number to 14. Not only did we grow the league size, but we expanded rosters by adding a flex position as well, which makes hitting in the mid to late rounds even more important than normal.

Joe Mixon: By the Numbers

Volume is king in fantasy football. This could finally be the year where we see Mixon’s volume skyrocket. The Cincinnati Bengals are without their notorious touch-stealing threat, Giovani Bernard. This means all the third down work, all the goal line touches, and everything in between for Mixon. This is the first time he’ll have this opportunity in his career. From 2017 (Mixon’s rookie year) through 2019 (not including 2020 where he only played in six games), Mixon has averaged 290 receiving yards and 36 receptions on 45 targets per season. Meanwhile, in that span, Bernard averaged 280 receiving yards and 36 receptions on 50 targets per season. You take Bernard out of the equation and Mixon’s numbers essentially double. Mixon is easily looking at 300 total touches this season.

Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down: AFC North

Welcome back to the “Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down” series. We have just two divisions remaining, and this week’s coverage will focus on the AFC North. Check out the breakdowns for the: NFC West, AFC East, NFC East, AFC South, NFC South, and the AFC West divisions here at DFF as well, with the NFC North to follow soon. Keep in mind, there will be a player whose stock is up and a player whose stock is down from each team in this division.

Startup Strategies: Drafting to Reload, Not Rebuild

Rookie drafts are wrapping up and startups are the only thing getting dynasty owners through the off-season. If you’re a true dynasty degenerate, at least set yourself up for success from the draft. We’re not going to just set ourselves up for success now, but build a sustainable roster for the future to create a true “dynasty.” You don’t have to go all-in on big-name vets, nor do you need to only draft players under 26. Mix a little of both strategically.

2021 Projections: Cincinnati Bengals

Joe Burrow looked awesome in 2020 when he was on the field. As a rookie, he was very impressive and I cannot wait to see how he grows in 2021. The team is giving him every chance to succeed and I think he will take advantage of these resources to have a great season and career. I have him projected for a very solid 4,700 passing yards and 35 total touchdowns. This results in him averaging 23.4 fantasy points per game, this leaves him easily in the top eight QBs for 2021. With his ADP being about QB12 I am loving him in drafts and find myself stacking him with a Bengals wide receiver very often.

Rookie Quarterback Record Breakers

With the 2021 NFL Draft in the books and teams beginning their offseason mini camps, the NFL offseason is approaching a lull. We will overreact to one-on-one videos of a wide receiver breaking a defensive back’s ankles on a route when the receiver knows the play and the defensive back does not. Or it might be in the form of a running back making a decent-looking body catch against air. We may even see more statistics about Zach Wilson being 0-5 against teams with 10 or more wins in that respective season and posting just one passing touchdown in those five games.

Overlooked and Underrated Rookie WRs

With most of the Pro Days behind us and the NFL Draft quickly approaching it seems to be a good time to reveal some rookie WRs that might be flying a bit under the radar at the moment. Should it be because of the hype surrounding WRs at the top of the board or their teammates, there are three WRs in this 2021 class that I believe are being truly slept on. According to my new model/data set, these WRs have a very high likelihood of fantasy football success. I will take a look at “The Measurables”, “The Production”, “The Film”, and “The Draft” to show you why these WRs deserve to be at the front of your mind.
