Preseason Overreactions: Hall of Fame Game Edition

Thursday Night marked a noteworthy night on the calendar for NFL fans across the globe—the first NFL preseason game. It was the first chance to throw in some DFS lineups, the first chance to lose money on the Jets (-1.5) when a missed pass interference call could have saved you (I’m still bitter), and for our purposes, the first chance to see some of these rookies in action. Every preseason we are so excited about anything new that it is easy to overreact. I can still remember last year with everyone concerned over Josh Jacobs playing so many snaps in the Hall of Fame game. Don’t worry about it though, because we here at DFF are here to help you sort out what is an overreaction and what is the actual takeaway.

Comparing ADP, Dynasty to Redraft: AFC North

A much-overlooked aspect of dynasty is value comparison, or comparing the values of dynasty players to redraft players and seeing which is worth more or less. You might be thinking “well, duh! Of course, older players are worth less in dynasty than redraft!” to which I agree. But what about Daniel Jones (QB – NYJ), who is only 25 years old? Should he be worth more in redraft or dynasty? Or how about Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR – DEN), who in redraft has an ADP of WR10, but in dynasty he’s valued as WR6. Which side more appropriately values players? In this series, which will take place over nine parts (one part for each division and a rookie roundup after the draft), I’ll be evaluating every skill position player on every team and giving my thoughts on their value, whether they are overvalued compared to redraft, or undervalued. Usually, the appropriate value will be somewhere in the middle.

Elijah Moore

Rapid Reaction: Elijah Moore to the Cleveland Browns

After an exciting rookie year with the Jets, Elijah Moore was a dynasty darling going into the 2022 season. The drafting of Garrett Wilson was expected to open up the field even more for the talented second-year man out of Ole Miss. Unfortunately for dynasty managers that roster Elijah Moore, the second-year leap was not present. Instead, we were disappointed by a major sophomore slump. His dynasty value took a massive drop off as well as it appeared he was on the outside looking in as far as the Jets offense was concerned. Losing out on slot snaps to the likes of Braxton Berrios. I feared for my Elijah Moore shares if I was going to have to wait for him to get on a second contract just to finally get some return on my investment. On Wednesday, March 22nd, Elijah Moore was traded to the Cleveland Browns with a pick exchange.

Week 16 Streamers

The second round of the playoffs brings great excitement and questionable players to start. For those of you that invested in Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, or Kyler Murray, you’re likely turning to a streaming quarterback to carry you through the postseason. And if you don’t have Travis Kelce, you’re probably entertaining the idea of streaming a tight end as well. It’s do-or-die time, so make sure you take a look at ALL of your options, even if you may have all the answers already on your team. Remember, we always provide the best players to stream at quarterback, tight end, and D/ST. Each streaming option will have ownership under 60%, according to ESPN. Below, you will find two streamers per position and a “deep stream” option (15% or lower). Let’s stream our way into the next round of the fantasy playoffs together!

Week 13 Streamers

There are only a couple of weeks left before most leagues head into their postseason formats. With the Cardinals and Panthers on bye this week, you may have to turn to free agency to compile your starting lineup(s). For those of you that are trying to solidify your team because you’ve faced multiple injuries to key players, this may be a pivotal week for you. Today, we will feature some familiar names, a couple of intriguing D/STs, and a red-hot quarterback who just took over starting duties for his team. Remember, we always provide the best players to stream at quarterback, tight end, and D/ST. Each streaming option will have ownership under 60%, according to ESPN. Below, you will find two streamers per position and a “deep stream” option (15% or lower). Let’s stream our way right into the fantasy playoffs!

Week 3 Dynasty Waiver Wire

Hello DFF members, my name is Chris and this year I will be writing the weekly dynasty waiver adds piece. In this article I will be writing about players that I feel should be owned in much higher quantities in your dynasty leagues. I will try to stick to low ownership percentages, around 30% or less, but if there is a guy above that, who I think should be owned significantly more I will include them as well. I will be focusing on a 12-team, full PPR set-up for these articles but the players I am choosing should apply in 10-team leagues as well. Without further ado let’s get into the waiver adds.

Week 2 Streamers

If you started out the season 1-0, let’s continue to keep you undefeated. If you suffered a Week 1 loss, there’s no need to panic; there’s plenty of time to turn things around. In this series, we will provide the best weekly options to stream at quarterback, tight end, and D/ST. Keep in mind that each streaming option will be below 50% owned, according to ESPN. Below, you will find two streamers per position and a “deep stream” option (15% or lower) as well.

Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down: AFC North

Welcome back to the “Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down” series (preseason edition). Week 1 of the preseason is officially in the books. Positional battles are ramping up. And injuries are opening up opportunities for players looking to earn significant roles and/or roster spots. The time to be the most active in dynasty leagues is NOW. We are going to hear “hype” reports from beat reporters. And we are going to hear some reports that make us feel a little uneasy about our player investments. Us dynasty managers must constantly research ways to bolster our rosters. In this continuation series, we will dive deep into one player whose dynasty stock is increasing and one player whose dynasty stock is decreasing from each team in every division. Today, we will break down the AFC North.

NFL to Appeal Deshaun Watson Ruling – Dynasty Fallout

Watson’s current value on the dynasty market reflects a refusal to prepare for the worst while hoping for the best possible outcome in relation to fantasy upside. His ceiling is infinite when he is on the field. A minimal suspension would inevitably cause that value to spike into the top six dynasty quarterbacks should Watson return to his previous form of play. However, neither of those previously mentioned scenarios is a guaranteed outcome.

Rapid Reaction: Baker Mayfield to the Panthers

For my money, I think both Mayfield and Darnold are better than people give them credit for. Mayfield is much better, though. He played under incredibly painful and difficult conditions for most of last year with a torn labrum in his left shoulder. People that say “but who cares, it wasn’t his throwing shoulder” are people you shouldn’t listen to. He also showed a lot of improvement the year prior, in my opinion, in a season that included three monsoon-type games. Look at his splits after the weather cleared. He has 92 TDs and 56 INTs in his career so far, compared to 54 and 52, respectively, for Darnold. I think he wins the job easily and I would approach drafts with that assumption.

2022 Projections: Cleveland Browns

When we loosely compare players, most people feel they have a good idea of what kind of production to expect. We may think “Deshaun Watson can support two fantasy-relevant WRs along with Chubb being an RB1 and Hunt being an RB2.” But, there may just not be room for that kind of production. I make projections to ground myself and help to understand what is actually possible, probable, or realistic. So, in this series, I will be going through each NFL team and making median projections for their 2022 seasons with their most fantasy-relevant players. I may be able to discern if certain players are being undervalued immediately but in most cases, I will need to finish more teams to get a good idea.

The WR1 Rating Dynasty Rookie Wide Receiver Countdown (Post Draft Update): Part 2

For those new to the WR1 rating, this is a proprietary formula I developed to provide a data-driven forecast of future dynasty value for incoming rookie wide receivers. The WR1 model scores rookies on nine predictive metrics and then combines those individual metric scores into a single WR1 rating. The goal is to provide a single easy-to-use score for those who don’t want to spend all the time dissecting different metrics.

2022 DFF Draft Coverage: Jerome Ford

A talented back who boasts NFL-ready size, strength, and speed, Jerome Ford landed in a decent spot with Cleveland. Though his fifth-round draft capital is lower than desired, he will have an opportunity to learn behind a talented stable of RBs in Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, and D’Ernest Johnson. Ford does have more than adequate hands, so he could potentially be used in a change of pace, two-minute, or third down role this season if there is an injury or two ahead of him. He will most likely never serve as a lead back in the NFL, but pass-catching backs who garner 10-15 touches a game (which could be in his future as early as 2023) carry fantasy value. Expect to see him selected in the middle of the third round of your dynasty rookie drafts.
