Son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, Shedeur entered college as a four-star recruit after winning a high school National Championship during his senior season. He initially committed to Florida Atlantic over SEC offers but decided to pair up with his father at Jackson State. In 2021, as a freshman, Sanders won the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in the FCS. As a sophomore in 2022, Sanders put together another stellar season, finishing as a finalist for the Walter Payton Award (top player in the FCS). His 40 passing touchdowns were a single-season school record. During his final two seasons, he decided to play for Colorado, where his father went on to coach after Jackson State. During his junior season, Sanders finished eighth in the FBS with a 69.3 percent completion percentage. During his final season last year, his completion percentage jumped to 74 percent. This was the highest in the FBS and served as a Colorado school record. He finished Second-Team AP All-American, Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-Big 12, and was a finalist for the Davey O’Brien Award (nation’s top quarterback). His 4,134 passing yards and 37 passing touchdowns were also Colorado school records.

STRENGTHS
Shows elite confidence and composure. Exceptional accuracy, breaking completion percentage records during his collegiate career. Not afraid to keep his eyes downfield and take punishment when the pressure surrounds him. Shows patience, as he allows routes to fully develop before attacking the defense. Squares his hips and resets after shaking off would-be tacklers. Makes NFL-caliber adjustments before plays begin. Elite quickness with his release, to go along with his strong arm. Above average mobility and a threat as a rusher. Often exceeded in design runs near the goal line.
WEAKNESSES
Somewhat too confident at times. Although he didn’t throw many interceptions, he often tried to play hero when playing from behind. This led to too many tight-window throws. On tape, it is evident that a lot of his completions in tight windows will lead to interceptions at the pro level. Needs to improve on breaking down a defense with multiple fronts. Takes way too many negative plays and sacks instead of throwing the ball away. Often drifts backwards when pressure comes, as he is trying to make a play every time.
ATHLETIC TESTING
At the NFL Combine, Sanders measured in at 6’1 ½” and 212 lbs, which equates to a BMI of 27.6. He neglected to participate in any drills at the combine, but decided to throw at his Colorado Pro Day.

DRAFT ANALYSIS
Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Excellent
Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Peculiar
Sanders was selected with the 144th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.
What’s the bigger shock? The long-awaited fall down the draft board Sanders went down? Or the fact that Cleveland drafted Sanders a day after drafting Dillon Gabriel out of Oregon? This is a head-scratching decision the Browns made. Sanders still has a great shot at becoming this team’s next franchise quarterback. But he will need to beat out Gabriel, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Deshaun Watson (likely to miss 2025 with a torn achilles) to do so.
FANTASY INSIGHTS
Sanders received a mid-first-round grade from me before the draft, and I had him as the second-ranked quarterback behind Cam Ward and ahead of Jaxson Dart.
In your rookie drafts, Sanders is more than likely a second-round pick. Although he slid in the NFL Draft, he still is one of the best quarterbacks in this class, and he should have every opportunity to earn that starting quarterback spot.
