Week 7’s “starts” brought you the QB1, QB11, RB12, WR4, WR18, and TE3. I also helped you to avoid duds from Sam Darnold, Tyler Lockett, and Tyler Boyd. Paul’s Picks – Week 7

I’m not going to lie, the “starts” were brutal in Week 6. Taylor Heinicke, Chase Edmonds, Kenny Gainwell, Tee Higgins, and Michael Pittman failed to provide average performances, let alone exceed expectations. I refuse to take the L on Kadarius Toney, though, who had three receptions for 36 yards before being injured in the first quarter. Unfortunately, with six more teams on a bye this week, my job won’t be getting any easier. As always, I’ll be bringing you names at every position that I believe will exceed expectations or fall flat. Let’s get into the picks. Starts: Quarterbacks Ryan Tannehill, Titans vs. Chiefs As predicted, Ryan Tannehill underperformed in a tough matchup against the Bills. However, I’m expecting a bit of a bounce-back in Week 7. The Chiefs are allowing the 2nd-most points to opposing QBs this season even after limiting Taylor Heinicke to just 10 points last week. With A.J. Brown back in the lineup, and Patrick Mahomes forcing the Titans into passing situations, I believe Tannehill can come through with his second top-12 finish of the season.   Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins vs. Falcons Tua looked good in his first game back from injury. He threw for 329 yards and two TDs against the Jaguars, finishing as the QB10 for the week. He should get DeVante Parker back in the lineup for a Week 7 matchup against the Falcons, who have been carved up by Jalen Hurts, Tom Brady, and Taylor Heinecke. He’s a solid fill-in if you have Allen, Prescott, Herbert, or Cousins on bye. Starts: Running Backs

Hello, fellow fantasy managers. I am Chris Miles, The Draft Director, and in this series of articles, I will be helping you determine what players value you should be taking advantage of each week in your redraft league. If someone’s value is too high I might tell you to sell or if I think their value will decrease soon he could also be a sell. I will give my reasoning for why each player falls in a certain category. I will attempt to have the format consistently be a buy and sell for each position but that may increase or decrease depending on the week. 

I do not want to put a QB or TE on my list just to fill the space if they do not truly deserve it. So, you can trust that all of the players I will talk about are relevant. In this series, I will be assuming full PPR 12 team leagues. The number of flex starters will not affect this information very much but if you have a super deep league you can always hit me up on Twitter for those deeper guys. What a start to the 2021 fantasy season. We’ve seen some great streaming options work out rather well (Sam Darnold), and we’ve witnessed others struggle to post solid point totals (Austin Hooper). Beware of the Ides of March, the date March 15th was viewed by the Ancient Romans as a deadline for settling debts. The year was 44 BC and the Soothsayers informed the Dictator that their readings indicated death. A soothsayer is a minor priest also known as a haruspex, otherwise known for practicing animal sacrifice and reading the remnants of the body for signs from their deities. The practice of animal sacrifice is very similar to us fantasy players praying to the fantasy gods for a player they roster to get put back in for the goal line work as they fret a close competition. Back in Ancient Rome, the dictators and government generals would often consult with the Soothsayers regarding future war campaigns.

2021 Projections: Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have typically been a run-heavy team in years past. This is due to them having Cam Newton and a revolving door at QB. Now that they have a stable passer in Darnold I think they will throw more often. In 2020 they had a pass to rush play ratio of 1.35 which is exactly league average. For 2021 I have them bumping up to a 1.41 ratio. As for their rush-to-pass touchdown ratio they have had a very low one of .85 in 2019 and .84 in 2020. Typically this sort of thing regresses to the league mean of 1.82, and I find it unlikely that we will see this low of a ratio again. So, for 2021 I am giving them a ratio of 1.25. Now let us look at what these trends do to the individual players.

2021 Buy Low Dynasty Sleepers

It’s officially start-up season! The buzz of the NFL Draft and free agency has worn off, rookie drafts are wrapping up, and dynasty managers are left chasing that sweet high. We’re all scraping for every bit of info we can from OTAs like we’re searching for a loose fry at the bottom of the bag. Welcome to The Void. The space between OTAs and Mini-Camps where every fantasy junkie is trying to fill said void anyway we can. Most of us are now obsessively trading or telling ourselves “just one more startup,” followed by more obsessive trading. Depending on what boat you’re in, let’s look at those cheap sleepers you can either buy low on the league trade block or take a flier during a startup so you can spend that high draft stock elsewhere using Sleeper’s ADP data, and scouting reports from NFL.com.

Tampa Bay made it apparent that they wanted to retain Brady’s pass-catchers by re-signing both Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin. Add them to the mix of Mike Evans, Scotty Miller, Rob Gronkowski, and Cameron Brate, and this group may be the deepest receiving crew in the league. To add more fire to the mix, O.J. Howard will come into the 2021 season fully healthy again. Brady finished as the QB8 last season, but most of his damage came in the second half of the season. From Weeks 7 and 17, he served as the QB6, but what’s more impressive is that he finished as the QB2 during the last three weeks of the season. Why is that the more impressive part? Maybe it’s because those last three weeks are typically the FANTASY PLAYOFFS!

Sam Darnold to Carolina: Rapid Reaction

The 2021 offseason has been an eventful one, especially for the quarterback position. Carson Wentz, Matthew Stafford, and Jared Goff have changed teams. Dak Prescott has received a massive contract extension. Deshaun Watson has threatened a holdout. San Francisco has traded up in the NFL Draft to secure their franchise quarterback. Now the Carolina Panthers have stolen the spotlight, trading a 2021 sixth-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick, and a 2022 fourth-round pick for New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.
