The WR1 Rating: Dynasty Rookie Wide Receiver Rankings Countdown (15-11)

Over the next few weeks, I will be revealing my annual WR1 prospect model ratings to help prepare DFF readers for their dynasty rookie drafts. This article covers the prospects ranked 15-11 in the model. For those new to the WR1 rating, this is a proprietary formula I developed to provide a data-driven forecast of future dynasty value for incoming rookie wide receivers. The WR1 model scores rookies on nine predictive metrics and then combines those individual metric scores into a total WR1 rating score. The goal is to provide a single easy-to-use score for those who don’t want to spend all the time dissecting different metrics. You may find an in-depth explanation of the model’s process and a glossary of what the metrics mean here. Before we get into the 2022 prospects, here are the top 20 all-time prospects in the model so you can see how effective it is at forecasting future fantasy value.

Redraft: Week 9 Buy/Sell

Hello, fellow fantasy managers. I am Chris Miles, The Draft Director, and in this series of articles, I will be helping you determine what players value you should be taking advantage of each week in your Redraft league. If someone’s value is too high I might tell you to sell or if I think their value will decrease soon he could also be a sell. I will give my reasoning for why each player falls in a certain category. I will attempt to have the format consistently be a buy and sell for each position but that may increase or decrease depending on the week.

Baltimore Ravens: 2021 Outlook

The Baltimore Ravens season has had a very unique start and was unlike what many were expecting. Their top three running backs suffered season-ending injuries just weeks before the season. They lost their first-round wide receiver, Rashod Bateman, during training camp, and they may have the worst RB room in the league. All of these factors left analysts and fans alike scrambling when thinking about what to project for this Ravens offense. Well, now that we have seen three games of it we have a better idea of what to expect over the rest of 2021.

Building a Redraft League Winning Roster

Building a league-winning roster involves being competent across many different criteria. The first box to check is having a high and consistent weekly floor. A weekly floor is important because inconsistent teams tend to not make the playoffs. It’s a long season, and your team getting cold for a couple of games here and there can be the difference between making a championship run and trying to not finish last. Now I understand that talking about players’ floors is not the sexiest topic in the world, but points win weeks. It’s as simple as that. This series will be written for those in normal PPR redraft leagues, starting 1QB, 2RBs, 2WRs, 1TE, and 1RB/WR/TE along with a Kicker and Defense. Follow these steps, and you will be on top of your league’s podium at the end of the season.

The Case for Chase: 2021’s Sure Thing

Get familiar with 2021’s closest sure thing. Ja’Marr Chase is the best wide receiver prospect we’ve seen since Julio Jones. No really, Julio Jones. Chase checks all the boxes we look for in wide receiver prospects and then some. Let’s first look at his draft capital. Draft capital is a great indication of what an NFL team thinks of a prospect and just how much they like (or don’t like) him. The Bengals made Chase the fifth overall selection on April 29th. What other receivers have been drafted with such elite draft capital? (All Data is from 2010-2021)

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 14

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 14

In this weekly piece, I will bring you some risers and fallers from a dynasty lens. Whether it’s injuries, performance, or value, I want to discuss how players have moved around. Based on the week’s events, I’ll give some advice on how to act on the market’s movement, whether it’s buying, selling, or holding.

I won’t limit myself to talking about any specific players or teams because I want to have the freedom to discuss whatever is most relevant. Also, of course, there are more risers and fallers than those I’m listing. However, it’s impossible to cover every single one of them, as dynasty values change weekly for many players. With that said, let’s jump into the risers first, followed by the fallers.

Welcome Back to Football

Welcome Back to Football

This will be a super free-form article, where I discuss how exciting it was finally to have football back on Thursday night. Even though the Chiefs-Texans matchup didn’t provide the most exciting football, it felt amazing to see a real-life game. With the COVID-19 pandemic hanging over our heads all summer, I wasn’t sure we’d get to this point. Getting through the first game gives me confidence that we will have a full season.

However, while the game had more emotional significance to me than fantasy significance, it still provided multiple important fantasy storylines that I want to discuss. The Chiefs and Texans have two of the NFL’s best quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. The Chiefs’ offense, in particular, is likely the strongest in the league, containing numerous exciting fantasy options. With that all said, let’s focus on a few critical storylines from each team, starting with the Chiefs and followed by the Texans.

#TomBomb: Kansas City Chiefs

Yeah, I knew out of the gate that this was going to be a tough sell to my readers. The very fact I can place so many expert’s 1.01 rookie selection as my top “buy-low” option is probably nothing short of asinine. That’s fair. After all, Old Tom hasn’t been himself since the Stock Exchange Crash of 1873. Regardless, here it is. If you believe the hype… and spoiler Old Tom believes the hype… you also have bought into the prediction that CEH is going to find himself as a top-5 RB in fantasy football very, very soon.

I will just make this subjective take as simple as I can. Andy Reid wants another Brian Westbrook/Shady McCoy figure in his backfield. We already know how potent this offense is with the RB position void of a true superstar-talent. At this point, this organization had the luxury of drafting for want as opposed to need, and boy oh boy did they ever take full advantage. With a QB like Patrick Mahomes, who has the ability to hide so many flaws with his scrambling ability, this Kansas City Chiefs offense is entirely a Madden-like construction of talent, and it’s just not fair.

2020 College Football Freaks

2020 College Football Freaks: Devy Impact Part Two

Every year, The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman publishes his College Football Freaks List. This list garners data from college programs and highlights the players that are wowing the staff both on and off the gridiron. In year’s past, we saw names like Saquon Barkley, Jonathan Taylor, Noah Fant, and Todd Gurley, among a long list of defensive studs and offensive line standouts namely Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney. We can garner a lot of information from the list that Bruce puts out, especially in deeper devy and Campus to Canton leagues. Let’s dive into the 2020 College Football Freaks List.

In this series, we will identify a high-value devy player who will likely maintain their high value or rise further. A middling valued player who you can steal and reap the big returns once they test at the NFL Combine, or their pro-day. As well as a sleeper who with a good season of production could return a serious increase in value.

DFF Army PPR Redraft Mock Draft Review

Every few weeks, the Dynasty Football Factory team gathers its sharpest minds to put together a no time limit mock draft. Throughout the year the type of mock changes quite a bit. At the beginning of the year, it’s a lot of dynasty startups and rookie drafts. Now that it’s summer, the focus switches to redraft.

Dynasty Story: Mike Williams

In April, I started writing a series focusing on one player at a time, called “A Redraft Journey.” I wrote about Austin Ekeler, Allen Robinson, and recently about Melvin Gordon. I love writing about redraft, but I realized that I could bring this style over to dynasty. In a dynasty story, I’ll look more at dynasty value and how a player has fluctuated over time, primarily based on news or events. Then, I’ll give a dynasty take on their future value and whether dynasty owners should buy or sell the player going forward. Let’s jump into Mike Williams, the subject of my first dynasty story.
