Hello, fellow fantasy managers. I am Chris Miles, The Draft Director, and in this series of articles, I will be helping you determine what players value you should be taking advantage of each week in your Redraft league. If someone’s value is too high I might tell you to sell or if I think their value will decrease soon he could also be a sell. I will give my reasoning for why each player falls in a certain category. I will attempt to have the format consistently be a buy and sell for each position but that may increase or decrease depending on the week.
I do not want to put a QB or TE on my list just to fill the space if they do not truly deserve it. So, you can trust that all of the players I will talk about are relevant. In this series, I will be assuming full PPR 12 team leagues. The number of flex starters will not affect this information very much but if you have a super deep league you can always hit me up on Twitter for those deeper guys. And with that said let us dive right into the Week 9 Buys and Sells.
Quarterbacks
Buy – Trevor Lawrence, QB JAX Jaguars
The Jaguars have been increasing their team pass rate and Lawrence is becoming visibly more comfortable in the pocket. I know they lost DJ Chark, but Lawrence is still out there slinging it. The Jags also face Houston and the Jets leading up to your fantasy championship. Those very well could result in high touchdown games for Lawrence and the Jags.
Sell – Ryan Tannehill, QB TEN Titans
I am selling Ryan Tannehill because it feels like this could be against the grain and we can be ahead of the market. People in your leagues may think with the loss of Derrick Henry they will have to more heavily rely on the arm of Tannehill. While this is true, it may not lead to an increase in fantasy points. Without Henry, the Titans’ offense may become very one-sided and inefficient. I worry for all assets in that offense except A.J. Brown.
Running Backs
Buy – Saquon Barkley, RB NY Giants
Saquon Barkley just tested positive for COVID and was close to returning from a foot injury. The Saquon owner has got to be struggling for wins and wanting a player who will score points for them. If you have a lot of wins or the necessary depth to make a push for Saquon, now is the time to bolster your future playoff odds of success.
Buy – Antonio Gibson, RB WAS Football Team
Antonio Gibson has been dropping duds week after week. His owners are frustrated with a guy that they spent a high pick on being outperformed by J.D. McKissic and even undrafted free agent Jaret Patterson. I think this is more due to health than a skill issue. Gibson’s touches are being limited and it is not because he isn’t good at football, because he is. This week Gibson is on bye. This will give him a chance to heal up and take on more work in the future. Plus, the Gibson owner probably needs a warm body for his lineup to grab some wins. Take advantage of this moment of weakness and pounce on Gibson.
Sell – Michael Carter, RB NY Jets
Michael Carter’s recent fantasy success can be placed squarely on the shoulders of one man, Mike White. White had an average depth of target (ADOT) of 3.7 in his first start, which was the third-lowest of the week, only above Daniel Jones and Jameis Winston. The Jets’ game plan with Mike White has become very conservative short throws which greatly benefits Carter’s receiving skillset. However, White will only be the starter for a couple more weeks, and then Zach Wilson will be back at the helm. Carter may keep up his almost 30% target share, but it is highly unlikely. Trade away Carter while he is seeing CMC-like usage and before his value dips back down.
Wide Receivers
Buy – Stefon Diggs, WR BUF Bills
It is no secret that Stefon Diggs has not been performing the way we had hoped in 2021. However, he has still been a solid consistent asset and we have seen the WR1 overall upside from him last year. I think he is a good buy that owners may be willing to let go for top WR2 prices. The worst-case scenario is you get a guy with a 10 point floor and you don’t gain any value. The best-case scenario is we see Diggs get back to the guy we saw last year, once the Bills start playing tougher games and Allen needs him to score.
Sell – Jaylen Waddle, WR MIA Dolphins
Jaylen Waddle has been a good flex fill in the last few weeks but he seems to lack the upside that many thought he would have. In Week 8 Waddle had only 2.4 yards per target, which is very concerning. Now with Will Fuller on his way back and Tua getting Mike Gesicki and DeVante Parker more involved it is time to move on from Waddle.
Tight Ends
Buy – Dan Arnold, TE JAX Jaguars
I have been a Dan Arnold truther since he was on the Cardinals, so it is great to finally see him get a true opportunity. Remember what I said before about Trevor Lawrence looking more comfortable, the Jags passing more, and the loss of Chark? All of these factors benefit their current TE1, Dan Arnold. In Week 8 Arnold saw a healthy 20% target share coming out of the bye and I feel he could stay above 15% very consistently. He will finish the season as a low TE1. Which, I know is not saying much but he has good weekly upside playing in an offense with Trevor Lawrence.
Sell – Mark Andrews, TE BAL Ravens
Mark Andrews is currently the TE2 in fantasy, and as a Ravens fan, I do not think this continues. Rashod Bateman is going to be further integrated, Sammy Watkins is returning and Marquise Brown is looking to be Lamar’s favorite target by far. I just don’t know how many targets are left over for Andrews, but I do know it is not enough to sustain top 3-5 TE levels of production.
