The game of poker, and more specifically No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em, offers many lessons and insights that can be applied in fantasy football. I have occasionally considered myself a professional poker player at various times over the last ~20 years, which is to say that I have occasionally had a big enough victory to have to report it. I have cashed twice at bracelet events of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, Nevada. I played a lot of online poker in the heyday of the internet poker boom in the mid to late 2000s. I believe I have played perhaps as many as two million hands in my life to this point. There was a time that I tracked it but I don’t really care anymore. At least I’m on the all-time leaderboard.

When we loosely compare players, most people feel they have a good idea of what kind of production to expect. We may think “Jonathan Taylor is easily the RB1 overall this season with the upgrade to Matt Ryan from Carson Wentz.” These are the sort of questions I look to answer with my process. I make projections to ground myself and to help understand what is possible, probable, or realistic. Jameson Williams: 2022 Dynasty Profile

Jameson Williams was a four-star prospect out of St. Louis, MO who broke Ezekiel Elliott’s 300-meter hurdle state record in high school. He starred both on the football field and the track and after a difficult decision between Alabama, Oregon, and Ohio State, eventually committed to the Buckeyes. Williams played sparingly as a reserve and special-teamer during his true freshman season. Williams started six games in 2020 but caught just nine passes for 154 yards and two scores as the fourth option in a loaded wide receiver depth chart that included Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Chris Olave, and Garrett Wilson at the time.

A four-star high school recruit who was born in Taiwan, moved to Ghana, and later emigrated to Canada, John Metchie III played his high school ball in the state of Maryland. He logged some game time as a freshman at Alabama, but behind so many NFL talents at WR he didn’t log enough snaps to impress statistically. In 2020 he filled in for an injured Jaylen Waddle and recorded his breakout season.
