Handcuff Heaven 2020

When I began writing fantasy content at Dynasty Football Factory, one of the first pieces I ever sent in was called “Handcuff Heaven”, detailing only the relevant considerations for the term that year and why you should or shouldn’t own them. With that said, I’m excited to reboot one of my first ever articles for DFF. Please enjoy Handcuff Heaven 2020!

Sleeper Series: Tyrod Taylor

After writing my redraft team breakdown series, I decided to start a new series as we approach the 2020 fantasy season. Every week, or probably more often than that, I’m going to bring you one fantasy sleeper representing a massive value in 2020 redraft leagues. All the links to previous articles are at the bottom of the article. In the first article, I detailed my methodology behind this series, so go back and read that piece if you haven’t yet! Now, I want to jump into the first quarterback of my sleeper series, Tyrod Taylor. While Taylor isn’t a great real-life quarterback, I think he could provide fantasy football value, especially in superflex or 2QB leagues. Let’s jump right in!

The 2020 All-Uglies

Everyone wants the hot new thing. As kids, we all wanted the brand new toy for Christmas and turned our noses up at the pairs of socks we sometimes got instead. Now that we are adults we want the cool new sports car instead of the pre-owned Honda. It’s the same in fantasy football. Everybody wants to be the guy who drafts the young running back who vaults himself into the first round next year. We all target those third-year wide receivers looking for that elusive breakout. But you know what? Those socks are a good present. They get the job done and you use them all the time. That pre-owned Honda is reliable and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to maintain. You can find similar values every year in fantasy football. No one in your draft room will let out a sigh of relief when you take one of these guys, but they’ll get the job done for you. These are the used cars and Christmas socks of the 2020 fantasy season. I present to you 2020 All-Uglies.

Dynasty Story: Mike Williams

In April, I started writing a series focusing on one player at a time, called “A Redraft Journey.” I wrote about Austin Ekeler, Allen Robinson, and recently about Melvin Gordon. I love writing about redraft, but I realized that I could bring this style over to dynasty. In a dynasty story, I’ll look more at dynasty value and how a player has fluctuated over time, primarily based on news or events. Then, I’ll give a dynasty take on their future value and whether dynasty owners should buy or sell the player going forward. Let’s jump into Mike Williams, the subject of my first dynasty story.

The Rookie QB Mousetrap

Breaking down these results broadly, we find that 4% of our sample QBs supported a WR1,17% supported a WR2, and 47% supported a WR3. In other words, since 2012, there’s been a 53% chance that a rookie QB fails to produce even a single wide receiver in the top 36. Considering there are only 32 teams in the NFL, that’s a pretty shocking revelation.

DFF Rookie Round Table, Part 9: Joshua Kelley

After recently releasing my rookie rankings, I wanted to open up the floor to constructive criticism.  I also wanted to see where I was not aligned with other DFF analysts. So, we conducted a round table discussion. This discussion is now a 10-part series of informal articles. In these articles, analysts debate why some of their favorite rookie(s) should be moved up. And in one case, moved down!

Rookie Redraft Update: Part 1

Back in March, I did a four-part series on the incoming rookie class. Now, it’s time to go back through my takes and examine how they’ve changed in the past few months. I’ve included all four of my original articles and all my live post-draft takes as links at the bottom of this article. I’ll start with part one, which covered quarterbacks.

Redraft Team Focus: Chargers

For the first time since 2005, the Chargers will have a starting quarterback not named Philip Rivers. Rivers was a checkdown machine unlike almost any other quarterback in the NFL, as he heavily targeted all his running backs, not only Ekeler. The Chargers drafted Justin Herbert with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft as their long-term starting quarterback and have Tyrod Taylor as their bridge starter. Both Taylor and Herbert scare me for Ekeler’s overall value.

Rookie QB Debuts

We saw four quarterbacks get drafted in the 1st round of the 2020 NFL draft. While all have aspirations to be the face of their respective franchises, all have very different avenues to get there. In this article, I lay out each of these QB’s paths to their starting role, and when I expect them

NFL Draft First Round: Redraft Reaction

In this article, I’ll give rapid-fire takes on how all the skill players selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft will impact redraft leagues. I’ll try to provide an estimate for where I’ll rank them as well. At the bottom, I’ve included links to my four-part early rookie redraft preview, to give a comparison of what I thought back then to how I feel now once we have landing spots.

NFL Mock Draft: Part 1

Today we’re going to have a little fun and do a mock draft for the NFL but with fantasy implications. Trading draft picks is one of the hardest things to predict, so for this initial draft, we’re going to exclude trades for now. Today we’ll look at picks 1-10, who we think each team will take, and the fantasy impact from these signings.

Early 2020 Rookie Redraft Primer: Part 1

Coming into 2020, Burrow will have a plethora of weapons. The Bengals locked up Tyler Boyd to a long-term deal and will use the franchise tag to retain A.J. Green. They also have speedster John Ross and promising third-year receiver Auden Tate on their roster. Running back Joe Mixon will also take some of the initial pressure off Burrow, providing a solid anchor for the Bengals’ rushing attack.

2020 NFL Draft Summer Profile: Justin Herbert

The 2020 draft class has gotten a lot of hype, but that makes those picks all the more crucial. In this article, @AJDraftScout examines Justin Herbert, the quarterback for the Oregon Ducks. Does he have the skill set to become a great NFL player, or is he hitting his peak in college? Especially in superflex leagues, hitting on those quarterbacks early will be crucial, and we’re here to help you decide who is worth it.

After the NFL Draft is over, scouts all over begin preparing for the next one in an incredible cycle of rinse and repeat. The biggest names are always the stars, but there is one question circulating in every scout’s mind: Who is the next franchise quarterback? Who is the next Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, or Carson Wentz? All this noise and hype about quarterbacks makes sense. Quarterbacks are by far the most important position in football, and a team that has a rookie QB has an advantage in team-building. Teams understand this and make quarterbacks a premium commodity. Since 2000, all but six NFL drafts have had a quarterback go number one overall and only two of those six did not have a quarterback taken in the top-10. On the flip side, twelve, count them up, twelve drafts had two or more quarterbacks in the top-10.The 2020 quarterback group is no different. While I don’t believe it will be like the 2018 NFL Draft where five quarterbacks were taken in the first round, there are some talented names out there. However, the battle for QB1 of this 2020 class has a clear-cut leader:
