Buy/Sell: Round One Matchups and Dynasty Targets

Playoff time is here at last! Did you make it? Sure hope so. Playoffs are the best. It doesn’t matter if you snuck in at 6-7 or ran the table and locked up a first-round bye. From here on out, you win or you go home. That fact is why playoff matchups matter so much. It doesn’t matter if you spent a high-round pick on a guy or if he won you a handful of matchups this year. That was then, this is now. You have to be honest about how that player will perform this week because this week is the only thing that matters. You have to be in it to win it, so play the guys who will keep you in it. In addition to some interesting playoff matchups, we’re also running through some of the players that interest us from a dynasty perspective for those of you who are already looking forward to 2021. Best of luck to those of you in the playoffs, and happy offseason trading to you dynasty readers.

Dynasty Sleeper of the Week: Cameron Batson

The fantasy playoffs are here, and dynasty owners are either getting ready for a championship run or still chugging away and grinding out some end of roster collateral for next season. This week I will be looking at another mini-sized wide receiver with exceptional measurables, Cameron Batson. This 5’8 175 lb. wide receiver is in his third year as a pro and showing glimpses of what we want from a big-play receiver. The Tennessee Titans seemed to be loaded with these types after you take away A.J. Brown and Corey Davis, but I am highest on Batson going forward as opposed to Kalif Raymond and Adam Humphries.

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 12

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 12

In this weekly piece, I will bring you some risers and fallers from a dynasty lens. Whether it’s injuries, performance, or value, I want to discuss how players have moved around. Based on the week’s events, I’ll give some advice on how to act on the market’s movement, whether it’s buying, selling, or holding.

I won’t limit myself to talking about any specific players or teams because I want to have the freedom to discuss whatever is most relevant. Also, of course, there are more risers and fallers than those I’m listing. However, it’s impossible to cover every single one of them, as dynasty values change weekly for many players. With that said, let’s jump into the risers first, followed by the fallers.

Looking Ahead to Week 9

In this weekly article, JKarp looks ahead to the following week. He’ll point out a few players below 40% owned on ESPN who have strong matchups next week that you can pick up ahead of time to beat the waiver run. He also helps you get ahead of breakouts that could happen in the current week, as predicting breakouts is the best way to save your FAAB budget.

Start/Sit Week 3

Each and every week, I’ll be covering a handful of players that I believe will either exceed expectations or let your team down in a major way. Here’s who you should be looking at for Week 3. To start, I’ve determined that Gardner Minshew is good at football. He completed 95% of his passes in Week 1, and he’s thrown for 3 TDs in back-to-back games. Now he’s up against a Dolphins defense that just allowed Josh Allen to throw for over 400 yards and 4 TDs. Roll out Minshew as a QB1 this week.

Corey Davis: 2020 Dynasty Profile

Davis can improve as much as he wants, but it won’t make a difference if the passing volume isn’t there. The Titans have finished 31st in pass attempts the last two seasons, largely due to a highly efficient running attack lead by Derrick Henry. He’s also taken a backseat to A.J. Brown, who demonstrated all season long why he’s the more talented receiver. Davis received 113 targets in 2018 prior to A.J. Brown’s arrival. But, now that those days are in the rearview he’s quickly drifting towards fantasy irrelevance.  For argument’s sake, let’s assume there’s an increase in passing attempts in Tennesee (there won’t be) and Davis sees, say, 85-90 targets. He’d still be hard-pressed to crack the top 60 at his position!

2nd Year Breakout Wide Receivers: Part 3

The consensus used to be that it took wide receivers three years to breakout into fantasy relevance. But, the NFL is turning more pass-happy and players are being utilized in various ways. So, it isn’t out of the question that there are a few second-year breakouts that can boost production for your dynasty team. Similar to last year, if your teams had Courtland Sutton, DJ Chark, or D.J. Moore on your roster before the start of the season, you more than likely felt comfortable with your team’s outlook. In this 3-part series of articles, I’ll look at six wide receivers that need to be considered.  If you didn’t draft some of these second-year wideouts, it’ll be almost impossible for you to acquire them going forward. But, if you’re given the chance, don’t be afraid to overpay.

Dynasty Story: Mike Williams

In April, I started writing a series focusing on one player at a time, called “A Redraft Journey.” I wrote about Austin Ekeler, Allen Robinson, and recently about Melvin Gordon. I love writing about redraft, but I realized that I could bring this style over to dynasty. In a dynasty story, I’ll look more at dynasty value and how a player has fluctuated over time, primarily based on news or events. Then, I’ll give a dynasty take on their future value and whether dynasty owners should buy or sell the player going forward. Let’s jump into Mike Williams, the subject of my first dynasty story.

We also touched upon players in their range, and who should be ascending or descending. I want to give a big thanks to everyone who contributed to this series of articles. I urge you to go follow them on twitter.  Read the whole series for a number of opinions on players who could win you fantasy championships for years to come. This is the final part of the series, where we’ll look at more insights and tidbits about these rookies.

Redraft Team Focus: Titans

Tannehill was a revelation in 2019. From the moment he took over in Week 7, he was a fantasy stud, averaging 22.5 fantasy points per game in his 10 starts. He was the QB3 during that period, finding success both through the air and on the ground. He completed 69.6% of his passes for 2,598 yards and 22 touchdowns while throwing only five interceptions.

You’re Dead to Me: Corey Davis

Every season there are bound to be players who disappoint you in fantasy football. Some years it might be a player that’s already disappointed you in the past. In the worst cases, this same player keeps disappointing you year after year. That’s what this series will examine. Players who I can no longer deal with having on my dynasty rosters.

Breakout Third-Year Wide Receivers, Part 1

Whether you believe in the third-year breakout theory for wide receivers or not, there is a strong case to be made for a number of players from the 2017 NFL Draft class.  I’m going to briefly discuss the notable third-year wide receivers and determine the likelihood that they break out in 2019. Using an arbitrary 25% increase over their best fantasy season to date using PPR scoring, I’m going to assess a percent chance that each player reaches their breakout score THIS season (suffice to say this is assuming the relative health of each player).
