Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 14

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 14

In this weekly piece, I will bring you some risers and fallers from a dynasty lens. Whether it’s injuries, performance, or value, I want to discuss how players have moved around. Based on the week’s events, I’ll give some advice on how to act on the market’s movement, whether it’s buying, selling, or holding.

I won’t limit myself to talking about any specific players or teams because I want to have the freedom to discuss whatever is most relevant. Also, of course, there are more risers and fallers than those I’m listing. However, it’s impossible to cover every single one of them, as dynasty values change weekly for many players. With that said, let’s jump into the risers first, followed by the fallers.

Raheem Mostert Injury

Raheem Mostert Injury Reaction

Raheem Mostert suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 6. Unfortunately, this injury is notoriously difficult to overcome, and Mostert will likely require a trip to the injured reserve. Mostert already missed Weeks 3 and 4 with a knee injury, so this is his second significant injury of the 2020 season.

I’m not sure when Mostert will return, but it’s safe to say that he will miss extended time. Given that he’s already had one injury this season, I have significant concerns about whether Mostert will come back for any meaningful portion of the fantasy season. Mostert must miss Weeks 7-9 after going on injured reserve, and I can’t imagine the 49ers will push him back in Week 10 with a Week 11 bye.

The Chosen One Falls

A devastating week in the NFL as many teams, real and fantasy, saw their top stars go down. The clear-cut number one overall pick in both dynasty and redraft leagues, Christian McCaffrey was no exception. McCaffrey left fantasy teams a parting gift, one more touchdown in another top 12 week. Unfortunately, we will have to wait 4-6 weeks as he deals with a high ankle sprain.

The Redraft Wire – Week 2

This weekly article is focused on identifying players who are owned in less than 40% of redraft leagues. These players are going to help your team win this week and every week to come! We are looking for guys you should be able to plug into your starting lineup without hesitation. This week was extra tough on fantasy owners with major injuries all around the NFL.

The Dynasty Wire: Week 2

David Moore is perfect on the season. He’s received a total of six targets through Week 2 and caught every single one of them. He currently has a 100% catch rate and also scored an impressive touchdown against the Patriots top tier secondary in the Week 2 win. Moore won’t see a ton of targets all year long but with Russell Wilson throwing you the ball you don’t really need too many anyway. Wilson is so accurate and efficient even the fewest amount of targets are still valuable. Moore is on all my dynasty league waivers and seems like a no brainer addition with all the injuries around the league.

@DynastyDiagnos1 DFF Redraft Championship Draft

As expected, McCaffrey was the first overall selection, leaving me facing down the barrel of the next best dual-threat running back in Saquon Barkley. Barkley surpassed 1,000-yards rushing in 2019 despite missing time and is the most talented pass-catcher on the roster. By the time the 2.11 pick came around 16 running backs and 6 wide receivers had been selected. Choosing between Jonathan Taylor, Allen Robinson, and Travis Kelce at the top of their respective positions I decided that Kelce offered the best value over a replacement player at his position. At the 3.02 turn with Kittle having been selected it was far too tantalizing to pass up the opportunity to stack Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. Referencing the above tweet from Scott Barrett, the plan was to go all on stacking the RB1, TE1, and QB1 and hope for the best when it comes to depth.

Christian McCaffrey: 2020 Dynasty Profile

I often hear dynasty analysts say that you should always try to trade the top overall dynasty asset because they have nowhere to go but down. However, I wouldn’t recommend trading McCaffrey or even attempting to do so. Like I mentioned earlier, I think that McCaffrey is an outlier, and he can continue to produce high-end RB1 numbers in 2020 and beyond.

DFF Redraft Championship Draft

The DFF team recently completed our annual DFF Redraft Championship draft and I was fortunate enough to be granted the first overall pick! We set up a 17-round PPR draft, with 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 2 Flex, 1 TE, 1 D/ST as starters, and a 7-player bench. This was especially fun because it was the first year we implemented a zoom video conference during the draft and had live commentary on each and every selection. It was certainly a tough room but we had a blast. I’m excited about my team and chances against the stout DFF competition this year. Let’s review how my draft unfolded from the 1.01 spot.

The Guide: A Round-by-Round Roadmap to Acing Your 2020 Fantasy Draft

I get the same email every year. It usually comes in the first couple of days in September. It’s from a friend who I used to work with. This person is extremely competitive; the kind of person who hates losing more than loves winning. The email is a call for help. My friend knows almost nothing about fantasy football, but wants to crush the people in the fantasy league she was invited to a few years back. I love writing the reply because it allows me to finalize my draft strategy after months of mock drafts and research. This year, I’m happy to make that strategy public. Here it is… the guide!

2020 DFF Weekly Preview

2020 DFF Weekly Preview

Unlike my usual articles, this one will have nothing to do with the NFL itself or even anything specifically related to fantasy football. Instead, I want to do a little preview of what’s to come from the DFF team during the 2020 season. We’re going to do weekly article series for dynasty, redraft, devy, IDP, and even DFS. Of course, we’ll cover breaking news and other topics outside of solely this content, but we’re committing to providing an excellent base of weekly content. Let’s go through what we will cover, department by department.

Let’s Fix the Snake Draft: Third-Round Reversal

The Dynasty Football Factory gathered once more to partake in a 12-team redraft league mock draft! But this time, we shook things up. We went with tight end premium scoring, as well as 0.25 points per carry. The tight end premium doesn’t raise the value of all tight ends, but it does create an even larger gap between the top and the rest. The point per carry adds a little bit more value to your bell-cow running backs. The biggest change? Third-Round Reversal.

Fantasy MVP Hangover: RB Edition

Fantasy MVP Hangover: RBs

I started playing fantasy football in 2006. That was the year LaDainian Tomlinson set the fantasy (and NFL) world on fire. He rushed for over 1,800 yards, caught 56 passes for over 500 yards, and scored 31 total touchdowns. Tomlinson scored a whopping 453 half-PPR points that season. He was the RB1 by a margin of 82 points. That fact is even more incredible when you realize that only eight running backs have topped 350 half-PPR points in the last 14 years, and two of those guys did it the same season as Tomlinson. That’s right, three of the top eight running back seasons of my entire fantasy football life came in that 2006 season. Of course, the league was different back then. Derrick Henry led all running backs in carries last year with 303. That would have tied for tenth in 2006. Tenth!

Post-Guice Washington Backfield

The Post-Guice Washington Dynasty Backfield

Recently, I wrote a quick, free dynasty profile on Derrius Guice. In that article, I covered Guice’s dynasty value after his recent release and how to handle Guice moving forward. Honestly, I’m tired of talking about Guice, since there’s a good chance he never plays another NFL down. However, Guice leaves behind a massive hole in the Washington backfield, which somebody will fill. Let’s go through their depth chart, player-by-player, and discuss each option in dynasty terms.

Washington Football Culture Shock

Washington Football Team Culture Shock Continues

The moon has not completed a single orbit around the earth since the Washington Football Team scandal broke, as over a dozen female former employees had alleged ‘Football Team’ executives of sexual harassment. New Head Coach, Ron Rivera took the podium and announced his and the team’s displeasure in the findings, and lead the charge to right the ship. Twenty-two days later, on a day where the twitter community believed that the big news of the day was the distasteful comments by an analyst at a prominent company, we were shocked bythe reporting of Derrius Guice’s arrest of domestic violence, assault and battery, and destruction of property. Again, with Ron Rivera at the helm ‘Football Team’ made the swift decision to release the 23-year old running back.

Are You a True Dynasty Contender?

In dynasty leagues, one of the toughest decisions that fantasy owners make is whether they are a true contender or not. Continuing to try and contend when you need to rebuild will set your dynasty team back for years. Therefore, it’s crucial to be able to take an objective look at your team, from top to bottom, and decide where you are.

Dynasty Story: Mike Williams

In April, I started writing a series focusing on one player at a time, called “A Redraft Journey.” I wrote about Austin Ekeler, Allen Robinson, and recently about Melvin Gordon. I love writing about redraft, but I realized that I could bring this style over to dynasty. In a dynasty story, I’ll look more at dynasty value and how a player has fluctuated over time, primarily based on news or events. Then, I’ll give a dynasty take on their future value and whether dynasty owners should buy or sell the player going forward. Let’s jump into Mike Williams, the subject of my first dynasty story.
