Christian McCaffrey

2022 Projections: Carolina Panthers

When we loosely compare players, most people feel they have a good idea of what kind of production to expect. We may think “Christian McCaffrey could never be the player he once was, or that D.J. Moore is incapable of being a WR1.” But, these may just be false narratives. I make projections to ground myself and help to understand what is actually possible, probable, or realistic. So, in this series, I will be going through each NFL team and making median projections for their 2022 seasons with their most fantasy-relevant players. I may be able to discern if certain players are being undervalued immediately but in most cases, I will need to finish more teams to get a good idea.

Pre-Combine 2022 Rookie Positional Rankings – QB

Your author has broken down his pre-combine rookie rankings into positional rankings with tier designations to help you better view the dynasty rookie draft landscape. It is important to remember these rankings are created with fantasy football purposes in mind. We will dive eight players deep with the QB and TE positions and ten players deep with the RB and WR positions. Up first, the QB position is detailed for the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down: Cleveland Browns

Welcome back to the “Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down” series (offseason edition). We still have the Super Bowl to look forward to this Sunday, but as a dynasty manager, you should be thinking about the next fantasy season right now. These are some of the questions we need to be thinking about. Who should we look to be trading for? Who should we be willing to give up? How can I improve my team before September? As always, I want to reiterate that we will break down each NFL team throughout this series. We have broken down a few teams now at this point. Click on their links at the bottom of the page if you missed them. Today is all about the Cleveland Browns.

IDP Wrap Up: Week 16

The Dallas Cowboys are the top DST in basic fantasy scoring coming into week 17. On Sunday, Big D put the hurt on Washington DC, blowing out the Football Team 56-14. The Cowboys defenders were an integral part of the domination, producing five sacks, two interceptions, a blocked punt, and two touchdowns in the game. The Cowboys’ IDP studs of the game were Demarcus Lawrence and Trevon Diggs.

Against The Spread: Week 12

What is up DFF Army? It’s that time of the week for us to provide some insightful Week 12 suggestions. Although new information always causes us to reconsider things, we now have enough information to drive decision-making. As we discover trends through the season we will be able to make more determined analyses on specific picks. To go along with matchups and trends, we will look at key fantasy players who have the most beneficial or detrimental matchups.

Raiding The IDP Waiver Wire: Week 12

Players qualifying for this column are those rostered in no more than a third of IDP leagues on MyFantasyLeague.com (MFL); moreover, new names appear in each edition. Occasional readers are encouraged to visit past weeks’ write-ups for more options. Finally, these recommendations further assume you, the manager, have finite roster space with challenging cut decisions to add new names.

Rapid Reaction: OMG, OBJ to LAR

The offense is great, and there are great players all-around. So the question is, is there room for OBJ to succeed? The answer is 100% yes. Sean McVay sold Beckham Jr. to LA by promising schemed plays to make use of his talent, almost assured single-coverage, and of course, a chance at a Super Bowl ring. We don’t care about the ring, but what we do care about is the schemed targets and how that will play out with Kupp, Woods, and Jefferson. Let’s dive into who will be the stars of this show, who will play the best supporting actor, and who gets relegated to understudy.

Psych’s Picks: Week 10

Greetings #DFFArmy, and welcome. My name’s Matt Ward, or as many of you know me from social media, Psych Ward. I’ll be filling in for Paul Patterson in this week’s edition of “Psych’s Picks.” Every week, Paul lists his top starts and sits with the keys to success for each player. I want to add: I will personally be favouring and fading these players in my own matchups.

Baker Mayfield Injury Update

On Wednesday, Baker Mayfield was ruled out of the Thursday Night Football game in which the Cleveland Browns defeated the Denver Broncos 17-14. Mayfield was ruled out after suffering his second dislocation of the season on his non-throwing left shoulder. However, it was what Mayfield said before the Thursday Night game that spoke to the seriousness of his injury.

Paul’s Picks: Week 6

Outside of Myles Gaskin, it was a good week for the “sit” column. Meanwhile, the “starts” at RB and TE panned out nicely but, unfortunately, Corey Davis, Laviska Shenault, and Jaylen Waddle didn’t live up to expectations. In Week 6, the Falcons, Saints, 49ers, and Jets are on a bye, so it will be even more important to locate those sneaky starts moving forward. As always, I’ll be bringing you names at every position that I believe will exceed expectations or fall flat. Let’s get into the picks.

DFS Week 5 Recap

We are officially five weeks into the 2021 NFL season and Tom Brady is still getting better! Brady currently leads the league in passing yards and is second in passing touchdowns, proving that the man simply doesn’t age. With that being said, let’s see how my weekly DFS picks played out!

Redraft: Week 5 Buy/Sell

Hello, fellow fantasy managers. I am Chris Miles, The Draft Director, and in this series of articles, I will be helping you determine what players value you should be taking advantage of each week in your redraft league. If someone’s value is too high I might tell you to sell or if I think their value will decrease soon he could also be a sell. I will give my reasoning for why each player falls in a certain category. I will attempt to have the format consistently be a buy and sell for each position but that may increase or decrease depending on the week.

I do not want to put a QB or TE on my list just to fill the space if they do not truly deserve it. So, you can trust that all of the players I will talk about are relevant. In this series, I will be assuming full PPR 12 team leagues. The number of flex starters will not affect this information very much but if you have a super deep league you can always hit me up on Twitter for those deeper guys. And with that said let us dive right into the Week 5 Buys and Sells

Six Redraft Shares to Watch After Week 4

Unless we’re analyzing workhorse running backs or Alpha wide receivers, a player’s usage can fluctuate from week to week. Some will shine and some will ruin your week. Remember, targets and opportunities are earned. In this series, I will provide weekly target shares, rushing attempt shares, and snap shares of SIX players (or group of players) to help you understand the value of each of them and decide whether to start ‘em, roster ‘em, or trade ‘em.

Week 2 Streamers

Week 1 is in the books. Whether you pulled a win in the first week of the season, or you’re determined to fix that losing record, you still have to think about streaming options for this week. Throughout this series, we will provide the best weekly options to stream at quarterback, tight end, and D/ST.  Keep in mind, each streaming option will be below 50% owned, according to ESPN.

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 1

The 2021 NFL season starts this week! Tampa Bay and Dallas kick off on Thursday night but you can still draft a Footballguys Players Championship team through Saturday. First place pays $500,000 and I finished third in the contest in 2019. It is now my life goal to take the big prize down. The Main Event also pays half a million and that would be fine, too.

Between these two large national redraft contests and all of my FFPC dynasty squads, I have 66 teams that I am managing. That is a lot of cheddar, a lot of waiver pickups, a lot of start/sit decisions, and a lot of time and energy. Everyone gets the prerogative to enjoy this hobby at whatever level they feel comfortable with. For me, it is a part-time career that involves the IRS and I have hired an assistant General Manager. That level may not be for everybody.

But for hardcore FFPC players like me, or for the more casual FFPC player, and for anyone in between, this is the first in a weekly series to give you actionable advice on the FFPC dynasty and redraft landscapes. I’d like to emphasize the Superflex format, but otherwise, I will focus on the waiver wire, trade market, general FF gamesmanship topics, and I will highlight one or two auctioned teams I bought from dynastydepot.com as those teams are all competing on their website for a handful of Main Event and FBG teams for 2022, as well as other weekly prizes.

Chasing Ships and Flipping Pieces: Part 3

The season is almost upon us! In FFPC leagues, there are barely two weeks left before we have to cut our rosters down to 20, including a kicker and a defense. On some of my dynasty squads, I am facing some steep cuts and difficult choices. How do I go about deciding which players to cut? Can I make some two-for-one trades that clear roster spots for me, or players for picks? Am I going to be fielding a competitive team that can contend for the title? Will there be a couple of impact players available on the first waiver run, and if so, will I have room to roster them? What about some later-round rookie picks that flashed during the preseason and I want to develop them?

Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down: AFC North

Welcome back to the “Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down” series. We have just two divisions remaining, and this week’s coverage will focus on the AFC North. Check out the breakdowns for the: NFC West, AFC East, NFC East, AFC South, NFC South, and the AFC West divisions here at DFF as well, with the NFC North to follow soon. Keep in mind, there will be a player whose stock is up and a player whose stock is down from each team in this division.

2021 Projections: Cleveland Browns

Baker Mayfield had a bit of a sophomore slump in 2019, but we got to see him bounce back with a good 2020 season where he threw for 3500 yards and 26 touchdowns. I have him projected to expand on this in 2021 and collect almost 4200 passing yards along with 29 touchdowns. Seems pretty reasonable to me. A small increase in throws per game and adding a 17th game certainly make up for that increase in pass yards. This leaves Baker averaging 20.9 fantasy points per game, resulting in a low QB2 ranking. Baker’s current redraft ADP is QB16, this is a tad high for me. I would feel much better about getting him at the QB20-24 range, I am fading him at his ADP and so should you. However, if he happens to fall a few spots I would gladly take him in that previously mentioned 20-24 range.

Startup Strategies: Drafting to Reload, Not Rebuild

Rookie drafts are wrapping up and startups are the only thing getting dynasty owners through the off-season. If you’re a true dynasty degenerate, at least set yourself up for success from the draft. We’re not going to just set ourselves up for success now, but build a sustainable roster for the future to create a true “dynasty.” You don’t have to go all-in on big-name vets, nor do you need to only draft players under 26. Mix a little of both strategically.

Rookie Quarterback Record Breakers

With the 2021 NFL Draft in the books and teams beginning their offseason mini camps, the NFL offseason is approaching a lull. We will overreact to one-on-one videos of a wide receiver breaking a defensive back’s ankles on a route when the receiver knows the play and the defensive back does not. Or it might be in the form of a running back making a decent-looking body catch against air. We may even see more statistics about Zach Wilson being 0-5 against teams with 10 or more wins in that respective season and posting just one passing touchdown in those five games.
