Overlooked Gems: NFC West Edition

In this continued offseason series, we will break down one player from each NFL team currently being overlooked. At the same time, that player could provide great depth/potential to a deep dynasty league roster. These players are worth picking up if they are in your free agency. They are also players you may want to reconsider keeping if they are fringe roster cut options. I will try to convince you why they are worth a roster spot for now. Of course, the NFL Draft and free agency period could diminish each player’s value, but we need to be making sure we bolster our roster(s) as much as we can. Each week, one division will be broken down, and today is all about the NFC West.

’23 Rookie WR Early Rankings: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Truth

The Senior Bowl has come and gone and we move one step further in our off-season process. Thankfully, I’m one step closer in my own rookie evaluations with my first look at the 2023 rookie receiver class. We’ll use film analysis numerical data from the regular season and look at using KPIs based on DFF’s very own Chris Miles. Using the points from his model and tales from the tape, I’ll break down this highly touted rookie class by discussing The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of each prospect.

Draft or Pass: Jameson Williams

Jameson Williams is one of the most intriguing prospects in the ’22 class. Williams tore his ACL in January but had an incredible season for Alabama before being named as a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which is awarded to the nation’s most outstanding WR in college. His incredible speed was displayed every weekend, regularly gashing opponents for chunk gains and long touchdowns, whether through the air or the return game, finishing his junior season with 79 catches for 1572 yards and 15 TDs. The only hole in his statistical profile is that he essentially did nothing until he got to Bama; with Ohio State, he totaled just 15 catches for 266 yards and 3 TDs in his first two seasons combined. Jameson offers a skill set that is required on every single NFL roster, his field-stretching ability could change the potential of an offense as well as possibly elevate other players around him, but I don’t think his stats will be a good representation of his value for the team that drafts him.

Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down: San Francisco 49ers

Welcome back to the “Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down” series (off-season edition). I don’t know if we’ve seen a crazier free agency than the one we are currently witnessing! We as Dynasty Managers need to be evaluating the off-season transactions and thinking about our roster adjustments every day. Who are we going to target in rookie drafts? Who are we going to go out and trade for? Who are we willing to give up in return? Will you go all in this season to bring home a championship? Or should you go young and prepare for the future? There’s so much to think about before September. The “off-season edition” of this series is an early look at whose stock is up and whose stock is down as we head into draft season. We will break down each NFL team one by one. Today is all about the San Francisco 49ers.

Dynasty Trading Psychology: It Pays To Advertise

Trading is the lifeblood of Dynasty Fantasy Football. Most of us would prefer to be in a league full of active and attentive owners where lots of trades go down. Unfortunately, that is often not the case, and even in some of the best leagues, there are usually at least one or two owners that are hard to reach (for any number of reasons) and that are hard to make deals with. I don’t know if I have ever gone through a startup draft or a rookie draft where there wasn’t at least one instance of someone reaching out to me and saying.

Dynasty Market Sweep: Quarterback Carousel Part 1

Welcome to the Dynasty Market Sweep, a weekly recurring offseason article focusing on substantial value disparities in the dynasty market consensus. The very nature of the instantaneous fantasy news feed has made the dynasty market more reactionary and volatile than ever before. Once the proverbial petrol is poured and Twitter fingers snap to ignite, player values can burn to the ground overnight. Value changes of this nature cause a ripple effect across the market. For every step up the ladder, someone must move down and vice versa.

Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down: Dallas Cowboys

Welcome back to the “Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down” series (offseason edition). We are just a few months away from all of the offseason madness, as teams prepare for free agency and the NFL Draft. Meanwhile, we as dynasty managers need to be preparing as well. Who are we going to target in rookie drafts? Who are we going to go out and trade for? Who are we willing to give up in return? Will you go all in this season to bring home a championship? Or should you go young and prepare for the future? There’s so much to think about before September. Welcome back to the “Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down” series (offseason edition). We are going to continue to evaluate teams’ players whose stock is up and whose stock is down before free agency and the draft start later in the offseason. A lot can change before next season, and there will be a ton of turnover before September comes around. As always, I want to reiterate that we will break down each NFL team throughout this series. We have broken down a few teams now at this point. Click on their links at the bottom of the page if you missed them. Today is all about the Denver Broncos.

The Gains of Tight End ADP

Everyone wants to find the edge in fantasy football. Sometimes the edge is glaring at you from across the room, and you just fail to notice it; or in this case, everyone fails to notice. Everyone is enamored with top-tier running backs and quarterbacks because of the positional advantage they give your team. We should be looking at the difference in production between a top player at a position and the bottom end starter at the same position, but we need to set some criteria for this study to have the most helpful results.

The Hybrid Startup Strategy and Results

Here at DFF, we completed a startup dynasty league draft with a unique format that few had tried before. But few will willingly go back to a standard snake draft after experiencing the thrill of the hybrid setup. This was a shallow, 12-team league including a Superflex starting roster and tight end premium scoring. The unique format of this draft is that we started with a partial auction, then rounded out the rosters with the standard snake-style.

The (R)evolution of the Rushing Quarterback on Late Round QB Strategy

A few weeks ago, I was scrolling the Twitter timeline and saw several tweets about the value of rushing quarterbacks, and how the “Late Round QB” (LRQB) strategy in fantasy football (popularised by JJ Zachariason) was on the wane. Seemingly, the consensus was that capturing the upside that rushing quarterbacks bring to your lineup, was worth the opportunity cost of selecting one in the early to middle rounds of your draft. As a fervent proponent of the LRQB theory, my immediate thought was to dismiss it, but my curiosity got the better of me – so I went to the data to see what I could find.

A Guide to Creating Your Own Fantasy Database

After consuming fantasy content, do you find yourself keeping fantasy notes on your phone? Do you bring your own personal rankings to your draft? Are you making spreadsheets for important stats as you prep for your rookie drafts? Do you fill-up notebooks analyzing your league mates’ tendencies? Are you taking pages of notes as you break down film on Odell Beckham Jr. or DJ Moore? If this sounds familiar, making your own database could give you the upper hand over your competition.

Intro to Devy Part 1: Getting Started

If you’re reading this article, you’ve found the first article in DFF’s brand new Devy section. Today is part one of your introduction to Devy and our aim is to introduce you to the Devy league format. In the near future, we’ll debut part two of your introduction to Devy titled: Scouting 101. We will also host mock drafts, publish offensive and defensive player profiles, all in an effort to help put those lesser known college players on your radar. After all, how many times can you read about Leonard Fournette and Nick Chubb? Let’s jump right into Devy leagues, the different ways to acquire Devy players and even how to introduce your existing league to the Devy experience. What is Devy? Developmental leagues – we’ll call them Devy for short – are specialized dynasty leagues that allow owners to acquire players that are, more often than not, still on college rosters. Once drafted, these players are carried on a dynasty Taxi Squad or Practice Squad until they are drafted by an NFL team. At that point, owners in a Devy league usually have the option to leave the player on their Taxi Squad during their rookie season, promote the player to their active roster or cut the player and move on. It’s important to remember, that players acquired as “Devy’s” will not be part of the normal rookie draft pool. Why should I play Devy? The majority of my fantasy football leagues are Devy leagues. I could sit here and list all of the reasons that I play Devy,
