Injury Roundup Week 8

Injuries are inevitable in fantasy football. How you prepare and react to them is what can make or break your fantasy team. Did you build a bench with sufficient depth to withstand the running back carousel? How do you pivot if a key player goes on injured reserve? Each week we will look at the most impactful injuries in the fantasy world and what players will step up their fantasy production as a result.

Week 7 Dynasty Waiver Wire

Welcome to this week’s edition of the DFF Dynasty Waiver Wire column! In this article, we will be focusing on players that should be rostered in much higher quantities on your dynasty teams. Our main focus will be on low rostership percentages below 50% but may include players rostered above that high mark. As always we will be accounting for a 12-team, full PPR, Superflex set-up for these articles but the players we highlight will apply to most scoring formats and league sizes as well. Without further ado let’s get into DFF’s priority waiver adds of Week 7.

Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down: Las Vegas Raiders

There’s only one obvious fantasy player that sees a decent fantasy boost going into the 2022 season. “Bring in the Carr.” What most fantasy managers don’t realize is that he has improved steadily throughout his career. His completion percentage has improved mightily since entering the league. He smashed his career-high in passing yards this past season. Sure, he’s turned the ball over a little more as of late, but what’s most important is that Carr finished as the QB13 in 2021, which is tied for the second-best finish (2016 was his best) during his eight-year career. Barring injuries, he should have no problem serving as the QB12 or better going forward now that his former college teammate, Davante Adams, is hauling in passes from him once again.

State of FFPC Dynasty: Cut Trade Keep

Hello FFPC fans! It has been a while since I wrote about the state of the Dynasty landscape. I took my lumps in the championship round, failing to win a single ship out of 12 teams that made the dance. All in all, I did just a little better than break-even, which I consider a loss considering the amount of time I put in. I also had Ja’Marr Chase (WR – CIN) on only two of those teams, where his Week 17 performance swung many league titles across the hobby. But c’est la vie as I always say.

Backfield Breakdown: Reflections After Two Weeks of the NFL Season

We are entering Week 3 of the NFL season, and so with two weeks of information, we are starting to see how the backfields of certain offenses are taking shape. This report looks at weighted opportunity (WOPP), as well as some other metrics to help you identify buys and sells for your running back room for Week 3 and beyond. I will revisit this article at several points of the season to help you get ready for a playoff push, and ultimately a run at the championship! What is WOPP? It is a metric that apportions value to a running back opportunity (either a carry or a target). Targets are worth approximately 2.74 times the value of a rush attempt in PPR scoring, and as such, they are more valuable.

Kickoff Countdown: 5 “Dead-Zone” RBs to Target

With NFL Kickoff just five days away, we are truly entering the homestretch of this Kickoff Countdown series. In this entry, I’ll be breaking down five “dead zone” RBs that I believe you should be targeting in your fantasy drafts. The RB “dead zone,” if you aren’t familiar, is generally recognized as the back half of Round 3 through the end of Round 6. There is some evidence to suggest that RBs in this zone of the draft are less likely to return value on their ADP. In this article, I’ll be making the case for five exceptions to that rule.

2021 Redraft: Carl’s Positional “My Guys”

In Redraft 1QB leagues I always try to fade QB and hunt upside “late”, knowing I can more than likely pick up a solid and serviceable QB off waivers if needed. The QB that fits the “late” pick with lots of upside is the Eagles QB Jalen Hurts. The sophomore QB is currently going off the board as the QB12, but his upside is much higher than that. In the three games that Hurts started and completed in 2020, he averaged 22.45 PPG. That slots in just below Lamar Jackson’s 22.71 PPG, (Redraft QB4), and Justin Hebert’s 22.55 PPG (Redraft QB7).

Jalen Richard OUT Indefinitely: It’s Time to Stop Sleeping on Kenyan Drake

Earlier this week, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reported that Las Vegas Raiders’ running back Jalen Richard sustained a foot injury after returning from the COVID-19 list and will be out indefinitely. The report had zero mention of what injury Richard suffered but to be immediately labeled as “out indefinitely” I have to assume it was fairly severe. Plus, foot injuries for skill position players are never a good thing as we have seen in the recent Carson Wentz saga and with Joe Mixon in season’s past.

Myles Gaskin: 2021 Dynasty Profile

Myles Gaskin played college football at the University of Washington from 2015-2018. Gaskin put together an impressive college career, rushing for over 1,200 yards and double-digit TDs in each of his four seasons. During the pre-draft process, he measured in at 5’ 9”, 205 lbs, and registered a below-average speed score with his 4.58 40-yard dash. Gaskin was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Dynasty Sleepers 2021: RB Edition

The days of the traditional sleeper are quickly fading with a community full of hard-working analysts and tape grinders who nail down even the least known players before most of the NFL scouts can get their eyes on them. Ok, that might be a bit of an exaggeration (It’s not!) but the dynasty market is saturated with content. Therefore, most players will be given some sort of spotlight and as a result, the entire population of dynasty managers is more knowledgeable as a whole making “sleepers” much more difficult to discover and take advantage of.

Knee Deep in Muddy Backfields: The Cardinals

After the NFL draft, there are quite a few backfields without a clear picture of who the workload is going to fall on. While it’s possible some backfields may continue as committees, more than likely, a few of them will have one guy receive a large volume of the work. That’s what I’m aiming to dive into in this series: who will emerge from the muddy backfields and cement their place as a fantasy value this season?

Fantasy Outlook: Cardinals Running Backs

Last week, the Arizona Cardinals signed James Conner to a one-year deal worth $1.75M fully guaranteed. After playing his first four seasons in the league with Pittsburgh, he will now join a backfield that includes: Chase Edmonds, Jonathan Ward, and Eno Benjamin. Below, I will be digging deeper into Conner’s and Edmonds’ fantasy outlooks for the 2021 season. I will also explain why the Cardinals should look into drafting a running back in this year’s draft.

Breece Hall: 2021 Devy Profile

As a freshman, Breece Hall earned the Iowa State starting running back job. He ran for 897 yards and nine TDs on a 4.9 yards per carry average. He also showed off his pass-catching abilities with 19 catches for 207 yards and one TD. As a true freshman he accounted for 19% of the team yardage, and 19% of their touchdown production. Thus, he earned a 19% dominator rating, qualifying for a true freshman breakout at age 18.7 years old.

Week 17 Storylines

I love writing these storyline pieces. I will go through some of the games and discuss one dynasty-relevant storyline per team that I’m excited to see. I won’t cover every game, as I don’t feel like there’s necessarily an exciting storyline to discuss for every team. However, I’ll bring you my best insights from the games I select each week. This piece will give you something specific to look for in each contest, which I hope helps you enjoy the games even more. We all play fantasy football to enhance our enjoyment of football, and I’m trying to add to that sense of happiness here. Fun is the most essential part of this hobby for all of us, including me.

Thursday Night Storylines: Week 11

Russell Wilson was on fire through the Seahawks’ first five games. He had thrown 19 touchdowns compared to three interceptions, and he was on pace for 4,800 passing yards. The Seahawks had also won all five of those contests, placing them as one of the league’s best teams. However, since the Seahawks’ Week 6 bye, Wilson hasn’t been the same player over the last four games. The Seahawks have lost three of those four games, and Wilson has suddenly become a turnover machine. He’s lost three fumbles and thrown seven interceptions, including three interceptions in his last game versus the Cardinals. I would love to see Wilson right the ship this week, but I might have to drop him slightly in my dynasty quarterback rankings if he doesn’t.

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 11

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 11

In this weekly piece, I will bring you some risers and fallers from a dynasty lens. Whether it’s injuries, performance, or value, I want to discuss how players have moved around. Based on the week’s events, I’ll give some advice on how to act on the market’s movement, whether it’s buying, selling, or holding. I won’t limit myself to talking about any specific players or teams because I want to have the freedom to discuss whatever is most relevant. Also, of course, there are more risers and fallers than those I’m listing. However, it’s impossible to cover every single one of them, as dynasty values change weekly for many players. With that said, let’s jump into the risers first, followed by the fallers.
