Comparing ADP, Dynasty to Redraft: NFC South

A much-overlooked aspect of Dynasty is value comparison, or comparing the values of Dynasty players to Redraft players and seeing which is worth more or less. You might be thinking, “Well, duh! Of course, older players are worth less in Dynasty than Redraft!” to which I agree. But what about Daniel Jones (QB – NYJ), who is only 25 years old? Should he be worth more in Redraft or Dynasty? Or how about Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR – DEN), who in Redraft has an ADP of WR10, but in Dynasty, he’s valued as WR6. Which side more appropriately values players? In this series, which will take place over eight parts (one part for each division), I’ll be evaluating every skill position player on every team and giving my thoughts on their value, whether they are overvalued compared to Redraft or undervalued. Usually, the appropriate value will be somewhere in the middle.

Breaking Down the Metrics: Dynasty Football Wide Receivers

In the fantasy football Twitter space, different and new stats and metrics are thrown out constantly by people talking about their favorite and least favorite players. My job as a numbers-based analyst is to understand which statistics best project fantasy success. In this mini-series, I will go through each position and tell you some of my favorite stats, how much they matter, and stats I often see that do not matter as much as someone might want you to think. Let’s dive right in with our first position: wide receiver.

Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers to the Jets

I speak for everyone when I say, it took long enough. This was a move that felt inevitable at one point and then doubtful at another but eventually, the deal was done. I must give credit to the Packers’ front office for the stones it took to hold fast waiting for a deal that had to happen. Their ability to hold got them the best possible return they were ever going to get for Rodgers. The Jets needed that deal to go through as well, given their roster is ready to compete with only Zach Wilson in the quarterback room prior to the trade. Alas, we are not here to pour praise upon Brian Gutekunst (Packers GM), we are here to understand the impact this move has on all of our Dynasty assets.

Wizful Thinking: Who Got Next?

The revolution is here, and it is being led by WRs. In the last several years, the young WRs in particular, have changed the way many Dynasty managers have gone about building out their rosters for future success. We have seen numerous rookie wideouts make immediate impacts and become the foundation teams are now built around. The NFL has recently changed in more ways than one. We are in the “Air Raid” era that has allowed rookie WRs to come in and make an immediate impact.

Positional Hot Spots in Pre-Draft Best Ball

At this time of year, the NFL Fantasy Football space is dominated by Dynasty content. Everybody is talking about free agency, The Combine, and NFL Mock Drafts while Redraft season is a million miles away. Don’t get me wrong, I love rookie hype and lopsided trade offers as much as the next guy, but I also love to draft. And I assume you feel the same way; otherwise, you wouldn’t have clicked on this article. In my opinion, the best way to scratch that itch is with pre-draft Best Ball.

What to Do at Picks 4-6?

So you’ve got an early-mid pick in your start-up draft this off-season and are unsure what to do? I’m going to be continuing this series to help you out. Unlike in my last article where I hadn’t done a startup from an early slot, I’ve done one startup from an early-mid draft slot, so I’m going to be taking a look at my draft and my good friend @PaulDFF’s draft, both of which are from the same startup. Afterward, I’ll discuss other players I like at different rounds of the draft. Both of the upcoming teams I’m highlighting were not from a third-round reversal, or 3RR draft, but in continuing with the fashion of my last article, later I’ll be discussing players I like in 3RR and non-3RR. Let’s hop in.

2022 Projections: Green Bay Packers

When we loosely compare players, most people feel they have a good idea of what kind of production to expect. We may think “Aaron Rodgers is one of the best QBs in the NFL, surely he is still an elite fantasy option without Davante Adams.” But, these may just be unrealistic goals to set even for a player of Rodgers’ caliber, with the weapons he has. I make projections to ground myself and help to understand what is actually possible, probable, or realistic. So, in this series, I will be going through each NFL team and making median projections for their 2022 seasons with their most fantasy-relevant players. I may be able to discern if certain players are being undervalued immediately but in most cases, I will need to finish more teams to get a good idea.

Dynasty Market Sweep: Rookie WR Market Report

Welcome to the Dynasty Market Sweep, a weekly recurring offseason article focusing on substantial value disparities in the dynasty market consensus. The very nature of the instantaneous fantasy news feed has made the dynasty market more reactionary and volatile than ever before. Once the proverbial petrol is poured, and Twitter fingers snap to ignite, player values can burn to the ground overnight. Value changes of this nature cause a ripple effect across the market. For every step up the ladder, someone must move down and vice versa.

This will not be your typical “Buy/Sell” advice column. We are going to hone in on distinct seismic shifts in the dynasty community, provide an explanation as to why these changes are happening, and tell how you can exploit said changes to benefit your roster. If a player drops or raises drastically in value, we may suggest a transaction. However, the primary goal is to understand how to adjust within the market and avoid getting swept up in the whirlwind of overreaction.

The WR1 Rating Dynasty Rookie Wide Receiver Countdown (Post Draft Update): Part 2

For those new to the WR1 rating, this is a proprietary formula I developed to provide a data-driven forecast of future dynasty value for incoming rookie wide receivers. The WR1 model scores rookies on nine predictive metrics and then combines those individual metric scores into a single WR1 rating. The goal is to provide a single easy-to-use score for those who don’t want to spend all the time dissecting different metrics.

2022 DFF Draft Coverage: Christian Watson

Watson was the leading receiver on the 2019 North Dakota State team which featured Trey Lance at quarterback, with 732 yards receiving. He had 43 receptions for 801 yards his senior year. North Dakota was consistently blowing out their opponents, so you will not see eye-popping volume statistics for Watson. He is explosive, garnering 57 plays of 20+ yards over his college career. When you look at his rate stats they are far more impressive. Watson’s dominator rating was 44.0%. This is 90th percentile among prospects and ranked fifth overall.  The receiving yards per team pass attempt was also solid at 3.12.
