2022 Draft Coverage: Kenneth Walker III

After making the mistake of signing with Wake Forest, Kenneth Walker III was relegated to a committee backfield his first two collegiate seasons. Though he produced well, the coaching and supporting cast held him back. However, he chose to transfer to the BIG10 and joined Mel Tucker’s Spartans before this past season. As a junior this past season, he exploded for 1636 yards on 263 carries for a 6.2 YPC average. He averaged a reception per game and scored 19 TDs and proceeded to win the Walter Camp Player of the Year and Doak Walker (nation’s top running back) awards, in addition to receiving first-team Associated Press All-American and Big Ten Running Back of the Year honors.

State of the Franchise: Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks have lost four of their last five games after a closely contested overtime loss against the Steelers on SNF. Their fourth loss of the season moves the Seahawks into last place in the toughest division in the NFC. The season goal in Seattle is ‘playoffs or bust’. Multiple significant injuries to the Seahawks offensive core have left the team at the back of the race. There are many games left to play, but the outlook for the Seahawks playoff contention is darkened without two of their offensive leaders.

With NFL Kickoff just five days away, we are truly entering the homestretch of this Kickoff Countdown series. In this entry, I’ll be breaking down five “dead zone” RBs that I believe you should be targeting in your fantasy drafts. The RB “dead zone,” if you aren’t familiar, is generally recognized as the back half of Round 3 through the end of Round 6. There is some evidence to suggest that RBs in this zone of the draft are less likely to return value on their ADP. In this article, I’ll be making the case for five exceptions to that rule.

Fantasy Stock Up, Stock Down: NFC West

With the injury bug attacking San Francisco as a team in recent seasons, the rookie RB could find opportunities sooner than later. Jeff Wilson has already been struck with bad luck this offseason with a torn meniscus. Raheem Mostert is penciled in as the team’s starter for now, and he has played in all 16 games once in his seven years in the league. San Francisco also brought in Wayne Gallman from free agency this offseason, an RB who has never played in all 16 games and only holds 14 career starts under his belt in four seasons. 

In comes the rookie out of Ohio State, Trey Sermon. He was drafted out of the third round in this year’s NFL Draft, and he may find a steady role in this offense. Although he isn’t known as an elite pass-catcher, it wouldn’t be surprising if he turned into one. Right now, there are the three other RBs that will battle with him for playing time, but if he could find a way to become a threat in the receiving game, there’s no doubt that he will take more snaps than both Gallman and Wilson.

Chris Carson Returns to Seattle

With Russell Wilson trade rumors swirling around the league, Seattle decided to bring back the starting running back that has lined up next to him the past four seasons. Last week, Chris Carson agreed to a two-year deal worth up to $14.6M, per reports from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The deal also includes a third voidable year that makes the contract cap-friendly.

NFL Team Deep Dive: Atlanta Falcons

In this series, I’ll be taking a deep dive into an NFL team situation as we turn to 2021. We will look at coaching/GM changes, team needs, salary cap/free agents, and overall fantasy outlook for 2021. The next team on the list: the Atlanta Falcons. COACHING/GM CHANGES The Atlanta Falcons fired head coach Dan Quinn after an 0-5 start to 2020. DC Raheem Morris took over as the interim head coach, finishing with a 4-7 record. GM Thomas Dimitroff was also fired, leaving behind a cap-strapped team with a few bad contracts that will make life for the new General Manager a hell of a lot tougher. As of right now, Arthur Smith is slated to become the next head coach of the Falcons. Smith spent the last 10 years with the Tennessee Titans in various roles. His longest position held was the Tight Ends coach, where he spent six of his ten seasons. His final two seasons in Tennessee were spent as the offensive coordinator. Arthur Smith’s offenses were top-10 in rushing attempts both years as the OC. They also ranked near the bottom of the league in passing attempts. In contrast, the Falcons offense in 2020 led the NFL in pass attempts with 626. A philosophical shift in the offensive scheme is on the horizon in Atlanta. TEAM NEEDS Front Seven In 2020, the Falcons defense ranked 19th in points allowed, 29th in yards allowed, and 27th in opposing QBR. Thursday Night Storylines: Week 11

Russell Wilson was on fire through the Seahawks’ first five games. He had thrown 19 touchdowns compared to three interceptions, and he was on pace for 4,800 passing yards. The Seahawks had also won all five of those contests, placing them as one of the league’s best teams. However, since the Seahawks’ Week 6 bye, Wilson hasn’t been the same player over the last four games. The Seahawks have lost three of those four games, and Wilson has suddenly become a turnover machine. He’s lost three fumbles and thrown seven interceptions, including three interceptions in his last game versus the Cardinals. I would love to see Wilson right the ship this week, but I might have to drop him slightly in my dynasty quarterback rankings if he doesn’t.

Let’s Fix the Snake Draft: Third-Round Reversal

The Dynasty Football Factory gathered once more to partake in a 12-team redraft league mock draft! But this time, we shook things up. We went with tight end premium scoring, as well as 0.25 points per carry. The tight end premium doesn’t raise the value of all tight ends, but it does create an even larger gap between the top and the rest. The point per carry adds a little bit more value to your bell-cow running backs. The biggest change? Third-Round Reversal.

Le’Veon Bell: 2020 Dynasty Profile

It’s been trying times for Le’Veon Bell owners over the last few years. Not only did he hold out the entire 2018 season due to contract disputes but he then signed with the New York Jets in 2019 and was quickly accursed with the Adam Gase hex. 2019 was Bell’s first year under four yards-per-carry since his rookie season (2013) and the lowest target total since he was injured in 2015. He received his lowest carry total (245) since his rookie season, when healthy. Bell finished with 78 targets but if you watched any Jets games you know he was underutilized in the passing attack. Especially considering the lack of short target weapons other than Jamison Crowder. Bell scored just three rushing touchdowns and still finished as the RB16 in PPR leagues last year despite being hindered by the coaching staff and lack of talent surrounding him. Missing the entire 2018 season likely also affected his performance but I’d expect him to be fully reacclimated going forward.
