Hello, fellow fantasy managers. I am Chris Miles, The Draft Director, and welcome to the first installment of my Dynasty Buy/Sells. I will be helping you determine what players value you should be taking advantage of in your dynasty leagues as we approach the fantasy playoffs and offseason. If someone’s value is too high I might tell you to sell. If I think their value will decrease soon, he could also be a sell. I will give my reasoning for why each player falls in a certain category. There will be advice for both contenders and rebuilders so whichever boat you’re in you can get information from these articles. I will attempt to have the format consistently be two buys and two sells for both rebuilds and contenders, but that may increase or decrease depending on the week. 

I do not want to put a player on my list just to fill the space if they do not truly deserve it. So, you can trust that all of the players I will talk about are relevant. In this series, I will be assuming full point PPR 12-team leagues. The number of Flex starters will not affect this information very much but if you have a super deep league you can always hit me up on Twitter for those deeper guys. And with that said let us dive right into the Week 14 Buys and Sells.

Contenders

Keep in mind these are very dependent on who owns these players. If another contender owns them they may be harder to obtain than if a rebuilding team owns them. 

Buy – Tyler Conklin, TE MIN Vikings

Tyler Conklin has been a reliable high-floor option at the tight end position this season. Now with Adam Thielen dealing with a foot injury, Conklin becomes the number two target in that offense. He could be a great asset to make your final playoff push and then help you get wins in the playoffs. 

Sell – Top of Bench Players

These are the guys that every week you debate about putting in your flex spot but never do. At this point in the season losing a starter just to be replaced by these players could lose you a game by itself. We need to bet on our ceilings in the playoffs because every week we are playing a tough team. This means we need the best starting lineups possible. If you can move a starter plus two bench players, who wouldn’t make your lineup, to upgrade that starter for the playoffs you should. Build depth during the offseason and early in-season, sell your depth for the playoff run.

Buy – Diontae Johnson, WR PIT Steelers

Diontae has been a fantastic high-floor fantasy asset this year. However, he is also a great high-ceiling asset. Diontae is currently one of my favorite WRs to own because of this combo. Diontae has played 11 games this season and in nine of them, he earned 10 or more targets. This is an insane target volume. Diontae sees this many targets because he is an elite separator. I know people are worried about life without Big Ben but the QB does not need to be good to be able to find a wide-open Diontae. He’s my dynasty WR8 and he only just started cracking most people’s top 15.

Sell – Chuba Hubbard, RB CAR Panthers

This may seem odd, why would I sell a player that was thrust into a starting role and has the potential to find himself here next season as well? Chuba has a very tough playoff schedule this season, and he now has to deal with Cam Newton stealing his touchdowns. I do like Chuba as a hold in general. But, this is for contenders. He is an asset with a high market value that if you can sell for someone who will help you win a championship you should. Every single time. When contending this time of year you must focus more on today than tomorrow.

Rebuilds

Buy – 2022 picks

The 2023 class in particular has been hyped by many analysts while the 2022 class has been talked about poorly. This creates an issue where the 2023 picks have become more valuable than the 2022 picks. Thus causing rebuilding teams to favor buying 2023 picks. I am here to remind you that the 2022 picks will never be cheaper than right now. Take advantage of this disparity and buy low on these picks that are guaranteed to increase in value. 

Sell – 26-year-old RBs

This isn’t a hard line but in general, you want to sell the aging RBs before they hit the value cliff. It is better to be a year early than a year late, especially as a rebuilding owner. A shortlist of guys that I was thinking of when writing this includes but is not limited to: Alvin Kamara, Derrick Henry, Christian McCaffrey, Aaron Jones, and Ezekiel Elliott. These are all guys that may have another good season or two but even if they have good seasons in 2022 their value cannot increase. It will only stay the same or even go down. This is why I want to be ahead of the curve and sell them while the market is still peaked on them.

Buy – Underperforming Rookies

It’s hard to figure out which rookies are worth buying, as in who had sizable drops in value, but we can try our best. A shortlist for this season (using keeptradecut.com values) Rashod Bateman, Trey Lance, and DeVonta Smith have all lost value. Bateman has had a rough couple of games but I think this is mainly due to being in the doghouse for a missed route run, followed by a false start penalty against the Browns. Since then he hasn’t seen the field much. The Ravens’ whole offense has also been down but this should return next year with good health. Trey Lance hasn’t started more than one game this season and people are very impatient. This can be taken advantage of. 

Sell – A.J. Brown, WR TEN Titans + D.K. Metcalf, WR SEA Seahawks

I just want to say this from the start, A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf are great players who have shown success in the NFL. However, people have had each of them ranked as the WR1 in dynasty within the last season and they are still in most people’s top five. A.J. Brown is closer to 10 for me after seeing this offense without Henry, seeing Tannehill regress this season, and Brown having multiple injury concerns. Metcalf is completely out of my top 10 due to a low floor, inconsistent play, and not enough boom weeks. These are assets you can sell for multiple firsts, or multiple pieces to help you rebuild. You have to remember when rebuilding you need a large quantity of assets to give yourself more chances of hitting on players and building a quality team.
