Hello, fellow fantasy managers. I am Chris Miles, The Draft Director, and in this series of articles, I will be helping you determine what players value you should be taking advantage of each week in your Redraft league. If someone’s value is too high I might tell you to sell or if I think their value will decrease soon he could also be a sell. I will give my reasoning for why each player falls in a certain category. I will attempt to have the format consistently be a buy and sell for each position but that may increase or decrease depending on the week.
I do not want to put a QB or TE on my list just to fill the space if they do not truly deserve it. So, you can trust that all of the players I will talk about are relevant. In this series, I will be assuming full PPR 12 team leagues. The number of flex starters will not affect this information very much but if you have a super deep league you can always hit me up on Twitter for those deeper guys. And with that said let us dive right into the Week 12 Buys and Sells. Note: This will be the last installment of the redraft version of this recurring article. The future versions will be focused on dynasty formats.
Quarterbacks
Buy – Kirk Cousins, QB MIN Vikings
Have you ever gone to buy cereal and seen a new flashy cereal with good recommendations and thought about buying it? But, then grab the same cereal you always have because you know it will get the job done? Kirk Cousins is that second cereal. The Vikings have been consistently scoring a lot of points and Cousins is the QB9 in points per game and yet, he is on most benches and even some waiver wires. Cousins is consistently undervalued and is worth holding as a backup for a playoff push in case the worst happens and your starter gets injured.
Sell – Cam Newton, QB CAR Panthers
Cam Newton is back! And he had a great first game, but that is all it was. One game. We have a much larger sample of Cam being very underwhelming in the NFL the last few years. I would bet on what we’ve seen from him in that larger sample returning before betting on a one-game sample to continue. Sell Cam off a good game before he fails and returns to being waiver fodder.
Running Backs
Buy – Myles Gaskin, RB MIA Dolphins
Myles Gaskin has been a little inconsistent this year but that has been in large part due to touchdowns. However, over the last five weeks, Gaskin is the RB6 in terms of opportunity share with 71.7%. He is the true workhorse of the backfield and the touchdowns will follow. He has provided a pretty safe eight-point floor, but also provides the opportunity of a high upside week if the touchdowns do hit. Plus, if you notice, he has had a boom game every single odd week, and there are two odd weeks during the fantasy playoffs. So if this trend continues he could win some leagues.
Sell – Devonta Freeman, RB BAL Ravens
Freeman has been a pretty decent back for the Ravens this season so he has been able to carry some value. This allows his recent blowup game to actually move his market value up a good bit. He had six receptions and a touchdown so people may think there is a sustained increase in work coming. But, I do not think so. We need to remember this occurred in a game without Lamar Jackson and Marquise Brown. Sell this rare occurrence as a new trend and you could get a decent return for Freeman.
Wide Receivers
Buy – Darnell Mooney, WR CHI Bears
Darnell Mooney had a blow-up game in the absence of Allen Robinson in Week 11, so why would we buy at an inflated price? Well, I don’t think his price will inflate as high as it should. People may see this one game without ARob as a way to gain value out of a mediocre asset. When, in reality, it is making people more willing to sell a good asset at a decent price. Since Week 7, Darnell Mooney is fourth in the league in target share with a 30% mark. That is a guy that I want on my fantasy team, and he can be bought as a low-tier WR2 right now.
Sell – D.K. Metcalf, WR SEA Seahawks
Metcalf has been known as a bit of a boom or bust wide receiver thus far in his career. But lately, there has been a lot more bust than boom. With his struggles, this could be seen as selling low. However, sometimes selling low is needed if you think the asset will either continue to move sideways or depreciate even further. Metcalf is still valued as a low-end WR1. I would gladly be selling him straight up for more consistent mid-tier WR2s that won’t cost you playoff games.
Tight Ends
Buy – Tyler Conklin, TE MIN Vikings
We stan with Conklin and the Vikings this week. This passing attack has just been fabulous the last month and I want every major piece of it that I can get. Conklin is one of those pieces. He hasn’t been flashy with any big games so his price has remained low. But, he has been a consistent asset who isn’t hurting you at the tight end position and there isn’t much more you can ask for there. Guys like T.J. Hockenson, Mike Gesicki, and Dan Arnold have all been dropping goose eggs in lineups recently. It is refreshing to own a TE who will at least score a solid eight or nine points in most weeks.
There is no tight end Sell this week. If you have a guy that you like, you are holding onto him as they are hard to come by. So, instead, I will give a reminder to buy injured players like Chase Edmonds and Michael Carter. Teams are fighting hard for wins and they can’t afford to carry dead weight. Take advantage of this and you will find yourself with depth for the playoff run.
