Hello, fellow fantasy managers. I am Chris Miles, The Draft Director, and in this series of articles, I will be helping you determine what player’s value you should be taking advantage of each week in your redraft league. If someone’s value is too high I might tell you to sell or if I think their value will decrease soon he could also be a sell. I will give my reasoning for why each player falls in a certain category. I will attempt to have the format consistently be a buy and sell for each position but that may increase or decrease depending on the week.
I do not want to put a QB or TE on my list just to fill the space if they do not truly deserve it. So, you can trust that all of the players I will talk about are relevant. In this series, I will be assuming full PPR 12 team leagues. The number of flex starters will not affect this information very much but if you have a super deep league you can always hit me up on Twitter for those deeper guys. And with that said let us dive right into the Week 8 Buys and Sells.
Quarterbacks
Buy – Carson Wentz, QB IND Colts
Caron Wentz has been balling, but his name seems to be keeping his price down. He has been a very consistent QB, throwing for an average of 250 yards and two touchdowns over the last four weeks. Wentz is starting to look more comfortable in the pocket and it is showing in his fantasy scores. Wentz would be the perfect guy to trade for if you need a reliable QB2 in a Superflex or two QB league.
Running Backs
Buy – Javonte Williams, RB DEN Broncos
Javonte Williams has been looking very good if you watch the games or look at any advanced box scores. However, Melvin Gordon has been able to hold onto his starter role thus far. People may be getting worried at this point whether or not Javonte can take over without a Gordon injury. In my opinion, he can, but I do not think he needs this to bring fantasy success. He is already averaging 10 points per game and his receiving role is growing. The upside is that if he takes over he becomes a clear RB1. If you want to see Matt’s thoughts on the Broncos’ RB room and the validity of other NFL narratives you can check that out here in his Fantasy Fact or Cap.
Buy – Elijah Mitchell, RB SF 49ers
I have been on Elijah Mitchell since before the NFL draft as one of my favorite rookies heading into 2021. Seeing him get opportunities and make the most of them has been awesome. He has played three healthy games in which he has scored 16.4, 8.2, and 16.7. He boasts a yards per carry mark of 5.52, as well as an opportunity share of 63% which ranks 11th in the NFL. I believe Mitchell has a firm hold on the starting role in the 49ers offense and it would take an injury for him to lose it. He should be valued as a top 15 RB rest of the season and I don’t think his market price is there yet. If you wanna see my thoughts on Mitchell the day he got drafted to the 49ers check out my draft coverage profile here.
Sell – Chase Edmonds, RB ARI Cardinals
Chase Edmonds has been a good fantasy RB to own, but that has changed and you need to sell before the market catches up. The addition of Ertz hurts everyone in the Cardinals’ passing game. They now have five competent receiving threats and that isn’t even including Edmonds. With the target share being stretched thin and Conner not yielding any goal-line work, Edmonds is tough to play going forward. If you wanna see the rest of my thoughts for both the Eagles and Cardinals following the Ertz trade, I have detailed them here.
Wide Receivers
Buy – Diontae Johnson, WR PIT Steelers
It is amazing what a bye week can do to people’s memories. Johnson has had a great start to the season. He only has one game with less than 10 targets, in which he only saw two of them, and he still put up over 15 fantasy points. Diontae is a very efficient high-volume WR, he has a very high floor with a top-eight ceiling. Yet people still seem to value him as a simple WR2. Stop the madness and value Diontae as a top 10 WR, which he currently is in terms of points per game.
Sell – Mike Evans, WR TB Buccaneers
Mike Evans has had some great blowup games so far this season, three to be exact. How could three great games out of seven put someone on the sell list? Well, when some of his other games include scores of 5.4 and 4.7 it is a little worrying. What is more worrying is that two of his three big games came when Antonio Brown was injured. The resurgence of AB has hurt Mike Evans’ consistency by reducing his weekly expected target share. If AB is healthy I do not want Mike Evans. Sell him coming off this 30 point performance and get some more consistent assets that do not rely on an injury.
Tight Ends
Buy – C.J. Uzomah, TE CIN Bengals
There is only one tight end in the NFL who has been the overall TE1 in multiple weeks. I’m sure you can guess who based on what is written above. Yup, it is C.J. Uzomah. Uzomah should not be valued as the TE1 but he should be valued highly as a tight end based solely on the fact that his current ceiling is so high. He has been used steadily in the progressing Bengals’ attack, and they are throwing more with Burrow getting more healthy. Don’t pay anything crazy for Uzomah, but I guess that the current owner will be trying to sell him for a quick profit. Probably for less than he should be worth. Take advantage of this and get a high upside player at an otherwise low upside position.
Sell – Dalton Schultz, TE DAL Cowboys
Just like you, I have loved to see the emergence of Dalton Schultz over the last few weeks. However, I think we may be nearing the end of his magical journey. Michael Gallup is designated to return from IR and that is scary for Schultz’s target share. Dalton is currently being valued as a top-tier TE asset but I think it is all too possible that we see the floor fall out from beneath him soon. Sell while you can, for a more stable asset at the position.
