Rapid Reaction: Bears and Panthers Trade

At this point in the offseason, we don’t see many blockbuster deals, especially not ones completely out of nowhere with no rumors first. However, we just got a bomb dropped on us with the Chicago Bears trading away the 1.01 in the 2023 NFL Draft to the Carolina Panthers. Derek Carr to the New Orleans Saints

The morning after the combine, everyone is moving rookie rankings up and down based on the measurements and data collected from the weekend. Little did we know we would get the first domino to fall in the off-season QB market. Derek Carr has signed a 4-year deal with the New Orleans Saints worth $150M and $100M in guarantees. The Saints are again using some strange contract structures to pretend that the salary cap does not exist. That is a discussion for another time though. For now, we dive forward into what Carr to the Saints means in terms of Dynasty Fantasy Football. NFL teams every single year find themselves in one of two camps at this time. Those that have their Quarterback for the future and those that do not. Those that don’t are frequently tasked with drafting a quarterback, one of the most challenging parts of a General Manager’s job in the NFL. Over the years we have had plenty of decisions that get questioned for years to come. Ken O’Brien over Dan Marino or Peyton Manning over Ryan Leaf, the differences these selections make are truly franchise-altering decisions. This process is mimicked often in the Dynasty Football space as we sit and try to evaluate the talent and project how they will perform at the NFL level. Longevity is an important trait of Quarterbacks taken in the first round of our Superflex rookie drafts like NFL teams. We may tend in the Fantasy circles to like mobile Quarterbacks a bit more than the NFL thanks to their rushing floor but mostly want the same things NFL teams want in signal callers. Sometimes we hit, Andrew Luck was exactly what we thought he was coming out of college. Sometimes we miss though. Today’s two cases we will discuss that we as a community were wrong on.

Since entering the league in 2013, Keenan Allen has been one of the most reliable wide receivers in football from a real and a fantasy football perspective. His savvy route-running and soft hands make him a trusted target for the various signal callers he has worked with, and a weekly starter for your dynasty team. He has spent his entire career up to this point with one team but the rumor mill suggests that he could become a cap casualty for the Los Angeles Chargers. Dynasty Outlook: Travis Etienne

After being injured during the preseason of his rookie season and sitting out his entire first year, Travis Etienne (RB – JAX) had a troubled beginning to his sophomore season. After beginning the season losing touches to third-year veteran James Robinson (RB – NYJ), he finally broke out in Game 5 and following that he posted stellar rushing performances, having a notable 25-yard + rush in seemingly every game. Ending his season as RB17 and having 12 ppg vaulted his value to RB five on KTC, placing him just between Christian McCaffrey (RB – SFO) and Saquon Barkley (RB – NYG) in the RB category, and Kyler Murray (QB – ARZ) and Chris Olave (WR – NO) overall.
