Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers to the Jets

I speak for everyone when I say, it took long enough. This was a move that felt inevitable at one point and then doubtful at another but eventually, the deal was done. I must give credit to the Packers’ front office for the stones it took to hold fast waiting for a deal that had to happen. Their ability to hold got them the best possible return they were ever going to get for Rodgers. The Jets needed that deal to go through as well, given their roster is ready to compete with only Zach Wilson in the quarterback room prior to the trade. Alas, we are not here to pour praise upon Brian Gutekunst (Packers GM), we are here to understand the impact this move has on all of our Dynasty assets.

Skyy Moore: Draft or Pass

Skyy Moore is an intriguing prospect in the 2022 class. The WR coming out of Western Michigan University dominated the MAC since he stepped on the field. There are people with concerns about why he wasn’t at a big school but there is simple reasoning for that. Throughout his high school career, he played QB and CB so schools never saw what he was capable of at receiver.

Art of Arbitrage

In financial terms, arbitrage is a complicated concept that involves the simultaneous buying and selling of the same asset. In fantasy football, however, arbitrage has a simpler definition: get this guy instead of that guy. Typically, a fantasy football arbitrage involves two players with similar situations or ranges of outcome that are available at wildly different price points. For example, in 2021 best ball drafts, Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson went off the board around pick 55* while Jalen Hurts was available over 50 slots later, typically going around pick 109. All three QBs were prized for their rushing ability, and all three finished within one PPG. This means that Hurts was the better investment when considering the relative cost of each player.

Selling High on Hype

During this “dead period”, of impact Fantasy Football content, it’s always good to take inventory of your roster and identify “who’s hot” and “who’s not”, from a Dynasty values perspective. The idea lends itself to helping you make strategic moves and improving your starting line-up production while insulating with production potential. The following recommendations are meant to help you find ways to expand your production potential via the off-loading of “hyped” assets, whether proven or unproven. These examples are not to say that these players possess poor value; rather it’s due to the perceived value that might allow you to move them in to strengthen your overall roster.

Is Jalen Reagor Good?

Hotly debated heading into rookie drafts last season and now again this season is the potential of Eagles wide receiver, Jalen Reagor. Is he good? Do you want him on your fantasy team? Are the Eagles bad at developing wide receiver talent? All of these are valid questions that we honestly don’t have a definite answer to. I’m going to try to provide those answers today.

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 12

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 12

In this weekly piece, I will bring you some risers and fallers from a dynasty lens. Whether it’s injuries, performance, or value, I want to discuss how players have moved around. Based on the week’s events, I’ll give some advice on how to act on the market’s movement, whether it’s buying, selling, or holding.

I won’t limit myself to talking about any specific players or teams because I want to have the freedom to discuss whatever is most relevant. Also, of course, there are more risers and fallers than those I’m listing. However, it’s impossible to cover every single one of them, as dynasty values change weekly for many players. With that said, let’s jump into the risers first, followed by the fallers.

Week 8 Early Game Storylines

I love writing these storyline pieces. I will go through the games and discuss one dynasty-relevant storyline per team that I’m excited to see. Usually, I’ll split the games into two sets, covering the early games in one story and the later games in another. Also, I’ll do a special spotlight on the Thursday night game from time to time, as that’s a midweek contest. I like to go into more detail for that game, just for a change of pace.

This piece will give you something specific to look for in each contest, which I hope helps you enjoy the games even more. We all play fantasy football to enhance our enjoyment of football, and I’m trying to add to that sense of happiness here. Fun is the most essential part of this hobby for all of us, including me.

I’ve listed the home team first for each game to keep things organized. I won’t waste any more time, so let’s jump straight in!

Looking Ahead to Week 7

In this weekly article, I’m going to look ahead to the following week. I’ll point out a few players below 40% owned on ESPN who have strong matchups next week that you can pick up ahead of time to beat the waiver run. I’ll also try and get ahead of breakouts that could happen in the current week, as predicting breakouts is the best way to save your FAAB budget.

Mecole Hardman is 40.2% owned and just misses the 40% cut. But, with Sammy Watkins out, he’s an absolute must-add ahead of a potential Week 6 breakout.

Week 5: Buy/Sell

Are you ready for some… Tuesday? Night? Football? Hopefully, everything goes according to plan and the NFL can stop playing hot potato with the schedule. But as we’re in unprecedented territory, you should be more and more willing to deal your guys. Don’t get attached to your favorite freight train of a running back (looking at you, Derrick Henry!) because anything can happen this season. Luckily, you have us to help you out. Here are our favorite buys and sells for the week.

Welcome Back to Football

Welcome Back to Football

This will be a super free-form article, where I discuss how exciting it was finally to have football back on Thursday night. Even though the Chiefs-Texans matchup didn’t provide the most exciting football, it felt amazing to see a real-life game. With the COVID-19 pandemic hanging over our heads all summer, I wasn’t sure we’d get to this point. Getting through the first game gives me confidence that we will have a full season.

However, while the game had more emotional significance to me than fantasy significance, it still provided multiple important fantasy storylines that I want to discuss. The Chiefs and Texans have two of the NFL’s best quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. The Chiefs’ offense, in particular, is likely the strongest in the league, containing numerous exciting fantasy options. With that all said, let’s focus on a few critical storylines from each team, starting with the Chiefs and followed by the Texans.

#TomBomb: Kansas City Chiefs

Yeah, I knew out of the gate that this was going to be a tough sell to my readers. The very fact I can place so many expert’s 1.01 rookie selection as my top “buy-low” option is probably nothing short of asinine. That’s fair. After all, Old Tom hasn’t been himself since the Stock Exchange Crash of 1873. Regardless, here it is. If you believe the hype… and spoiler Old Tom believes the hype… you also have bought into the prediction that CEH is going to find himself as a top-5 RB in fantasy football very, very soon.

I will just make this subjective take as simple as I can. Andy Reid wants another Brian Westbrook/Shady McCoy figure in his backfield. We already know how potent this offense is with the RB position void of a true superstar-talent. At this point, this organization had the luxury of drafting for want as opposed to need, and boy oh boy did they ever take full advantage. With a QB like Patrick Mahomes, who has the ability to hide so many flaws with his scrambling ability, this Kansas City Chiefs offense is entirely a Madden-like construction of talent, and it’s just not fair.

The Guide: A Round-by-Round Roadmap to Acing Your 2020 Fantasy Draft

I get the same email every year. It usually comes in the first couple of days in September. It’s from a friend who I used to work with. This person is extremely competitive; the kind of person who hates losing more than loves winning. The email is a call for help. My friend knows almost nothing about fantasy football, but wants to crush the people in the fantasy league she was invited to a few years back. I love writing the reply because it allows me to finalize my draft strategy after months of mock drafts and research. This year, I’m happy to make that strategy public. Here it is… the guide!

Diontae Johnson: 2020 Dynasty Profile

At Johnson’s current value, he likely represents a dynasty sell. I’m a firm believer in a bounce-back season for Smith-Schuster, and I expect the Steelers to reach a long-term agreement with him. I don’t see Johnson as having the same ceiling as some other players in his value range, such as Christian Kirk, Mecole Hardman, N’Keal Harry, or Tee Higgins. For those reasons, I’d float Johnson in trade talks if I had him on one of my dynasty teams.

Redraft Impact of PPR Scoring

The original idea of half and full PPR scoring was to even out the production between running backs and wide receivers. In the past, say 15-20 years ago, running backs significantly outscored wide receivers. But, giving points per reception leveled the playing field. I’ll break down whether that’s still true, but that was the primary purpose behind PPR scoring systems. Also, basing scoring on receptions creates more predictability in projecting fantasy points. As always, fantasy leagues are more fun when they reward skill over luck. Specifically, adding PPR scoring reduces the scoring impact of touchdowns, which are highly unpredictable, in favor of receptions, which are highly predictable.

Dead to Me: Emmanuel Sanders

Dead to Me: Emmanuel Sanders

The shovel is back! My favorite article series returns once again. If you don’t already know, I figuratively bury fantasy players and their redraft stock. You can find all my previous work in this series at the bottom of the page. Unfortunately, the grim reaper has come for Emmanuel Sanders. He’s had a great career, but his time is up. Also, to jump out in front of the potential backlash, I want to make sure you don’t hear what I’m not saying in this article. Sanders was an exceptional real-life and fantasy wide receiver for many years. He had a stellar NFL career and deserves nothing but praise for his perseverance.
