Skyy Moore is an intriguing prospect in the 2022 class. The WR coming out of Western Michigan University dominated the MAC since he stepped on the field. There are people with concerns about why he wasn’t at a big school but there is simple reasoning for that. Throughout his high school career, he played QB and CB so schools never saw what he was capable of at receiver.
WMU took a chance and it paid off huge as Skyy broke out as a freshman with over a 25% market share of his team’s receiving yards then this past year as a junior, he put up an insane 39% market share. He’s shown elite footwork off the line of scrimmage, getting open with ease regardless of where he lines up. Skyy can play any WR position, as he proved in college where he had 252/824 total snaps lined up in the slot showcasing his versatility. He plays bigger than his 5’10” 195 lbs. frame would suggest, as he’s able to high-point balls and snatch them out of the air with strong hands. Skyy utilizes his 4.41 speed to create separation at all three levels of the field. He has shown an extensive route tree as he is capable of running any route you could ask of him, which will always keep the defense on their toes guessing his next move.
Skyy has also shown phenomenal elusiveness and strength after the catch as he forced 26 missed tackles which were tied for the most among FBS WRs last season. Now he landed in the picture-perfect spot getting to learn and grow with one of the best young QBs of this generation in Patrick Mahomes. Travis Kelce is aging and although I believe JuJu Smith-Schuster will have a career resurgence this season, there is a starting role in two WR sets waiting for Skyy. The only people standing in his way are Mecole Hardman and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, which do not concern me in the slightest. Considering the Chiefs ran 11 personnel sets (1RB 1TE 3WRs) 67% of their snaps, which was tied for seventh-most in the NFL, Skyy will have plenty of opportunities to see the field as a rookie.
The Chiefs are one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL so there will be plenty of yards and touchdowns to go around especially with the departure of Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins this offseason. Skyy typically goes around 1.08 in rookie drafts but I’d feel comfortable taking him as early as 1.05. During Dynasty Startups, he typically goes in about the seventh round but I’d be willing to draft him as early as the mid to late sixth just so I can secure him on my teams. The fact the Chiefs got an all-around wide receiver as good as Moore in the back half of the second round was a blessing and you best believe Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid will maximize his potential in the electric Kansas City offense for years to come. Skyy Moore is one of my most coveted “Draft” players going into the 2022 NFL season.
