Whew. This past week was much better than the first. Most of my teams that started off with a loss got back to even and a number of solid teams moved to 2-0. Sadly there are more 0-2 teams in my portfolio than I would like. We know a lot more about the landscape out there today than we did two weeks ago, but we still need more time for the process of variance to give us a clearer picture. As I got comfortable in my recliner a few minutes before kickoff this past Sunday, I told my wife about how the first week of NFL action can be really wild. I explained a little about the nonsense with Trey Sermon (RB – SF) being deactivated, and that although I was surprised and disappointed, I had drafted Elijah Mitchell (RB – SF) in nearly half my leagues as a late dart throw and stood to come out ahead. The only thing better than getting Mitchell in a couple of waivers this week was knowing I already took him in the fourth round of rookie drafts back in May and anywhere between the 16th and 20th rounds of redrafts this year. The 2021 NFL season starts this week! Tampa Bay and Dallas kick off on Thursday night but you can still draft a Footballguys Players Championship team through Saturday. First place pays $500,000 and I finished third in the contest in 2019. It is now my life goal to take the big prize down. The Main Event also pays half a million and that would be fine, too.
Between these two large national redraft contests and all of my FFPC dynasty squads, I have 66 teams that I am managing. That is a lot of cheddar, a lot of waiver pickups, a lot of start/sit decisions, and a lot of time and energy. Everyone gets the prerogative to enjoy this hobby at whatever level they feel comfortable with. For me, it is a part-time career that involves the IRS and I have hired an assistant General Manager. That level may not be for everybody.
But for hardcore FFPC players like me, or for the more casual FFPC player, and for anyone in between, this is the first in a weekly series to give you actionable advice on the FFPC dynasty and redraft landscapes. I’d like to emphasize the Superflex format, but otherwise, I will focus on the waiver wire, trade market, general FF gamesmanship topics, and I will highlight one or two auctioned teams I bought from dynastydepot.com as those teams are all competing on their website for a handful of Main Event and FBG teams for 2022, as well as other weekly prizes.

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of drafting against a number of my colleagues for our 14-team staff league, cleverly named the “DFF Redraft Championship.” The draft was a ton of fun, and I can already tell the competition is going to be stiff. For some additional context, our starting lineups consist of 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 3 W/R/T, 1 K, and 1 DEF. Passing TDs are worth 6 points, while rushing and receiving first downs are worth 0.5 points. There is also a 0.1 point per carry bonus and a 0.5 TE reception bonus. Thomas injured his ankle twice during the regular season last year and was expected to undergo surgery on it as early as January of 2021. Unfortunately for his team, it looks like now he won’t be looking 100% until we hit the ⅓ mark of the season. The Saints schedule has a bye Week 6 before they head into a Monday Night Football matchup against the division-rival Seahawks in Week 7. Given the expected timeline, it’s hard for me to imagine the Saints rushing him back there for the week 5 game against WFT at about the 3 to 3.5-month mark given the uncertainty of when the surgery actually occurred in June. Expecting a push for a Week 7 return makes the most sense when projecting this early on.

Don’t blink, or you’ll miss it. There are just three games of football remaining in the 2020 NFL season. Before you know it, the NFL draft will have come and gone, and the rookie draft season won’t be far behind. With it, comes the buzz of the incoming class, and roster cutdowns mean some players who have yet to pop, will quickly be forgotten. This article is to remind you about five wideouts who came into the NFL over the past couple of seasons, with strong analytical profiles based on their dominator rating and breakout age.
If you haven’t heard of these metrics before, they are relatively straightforward and intuitive.
Dominator rating is the percentage of a team’s total passing offensive output (yards and touchdowns) for which a wide receiver was responsible. It is preferable to simply looking at the raw output due to vast differences in the circumstances of each wide receiver, such as quarterback play, scheme, and play-calling tendencies. It reflects how a player was able to perform relative to their college teammates. If they can’t outperform their peers, how can they be expected to earn targets on an NFL roster?

If you’re in any deeper leagues and need a wide receiver target, Guyton is your guy. He’s owned in very few leagues due to his low target share but he’s scored 14+ PPR fantasy points in two of the last three weeks. Rookie star quarterback, Justin Herbert, has built a connection with Guyton on deep balls and provides that upside many fantasy teams need.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised to find Higgins sitting on dynasty waiver wires. It’s understandable for owners to get impatient, especially with the loaded receiving corps in Cleveland. Sadly, we can’t anticipate injuries and end up with a weekly starter (going forward) on the waiver wire. Higgins has been involved all year, even with Beckham in the lineup. He caught all six targets for 110 yards in Beckham’s absence in Week 7. Spend your FAAB on Higgins.
