Rapid Reaction: Bears and Panthers Trade

At this point in the offseason, we don’t see many blockbuster deals, especially not ones completely out of nowhere with no rumors first. However, we just got a bomb dropped on us with the Chicago Bears trading away the 1.01 in the 2023 NFL Draft to the Carolina Panthers. There is a lot to talk about in this trade so let’s dive right in.

Keenan Allen: Buy or Sell

Since entering the league in 2013, Keenan Allen has been one of the most reliable wide receivers in football from a real and a fantasy football perspective. His savvy route-running and soft hands make him a trusted target for the various signal callers he has worked with, and a weekly starter for your dynasty team. He has spent his entire career up to this point with one team but the rumor mill suggests that he could become a cap casualty for the Los Angeles Chargers. This uncertainty going into the offseason has made his value difficult to gauge from a dynasty football perspective. Where there is uncertainty can be scary for some dynasty managers but clever managers know this can also create buying windows. So with the case of Keenan Allen, should we be buying? Or should we be selling? Let’s take a deeper look.

Each streaming option will have ownership under 60%, according to ESPN. Below, you will find two streamers per position and a “deep stream” option (15% or lower).

State of FFPC: Dynasty Landscape & Redraft Tourneys (midseason edition)

Nevertheless, right now is a great time to look at standings and to think about who is a pretender, who is a contender and where are there mutual needs that might be met in a trade. 2023 picks are very difficult to pry away from people due to the expected high quality of that class, but now is the best time to try and grab them.

Best Ball Is The Only Way To Mock

I haven’t done a mock draft in years, aside from a couple of rookie mocks for DFF earlier this offseason where we published our results. I have been doing cheap $10 and $35 dollar buy-in best ball leagues for years and pretended as though I was mocking. I was experimenting, I was reaching, and I was trying to see how far I could take a certain strategy from an early, mid, or late draft slot before that strategy breaks (in my pre-September mind). I have treated those best ball drafts as research. It’s what most people call mocking, but I do it with live drafts with real money.

Rapid Reaction: Chicago Trades for N’Keal Harry

It’s not a surprise that New England has decided to move on from their 2019 first-round selection, N’Keal Harry. Per Ian Rapoport, the Bears traded for the three-year pro in exchange for a 2024 7th-round pick. At first glance, this makes sense for everyone involved. The Patriots finally get to move on from selecting Harry over names like Deebo Samuel, A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf, Diontae Johnson, and Terry McLaurin. The Bears take a chance on a high-upside player on a one-year rental. And Harry gets a fresh start in a new location to prove his worth. Who loses in this situation? Let’s dig deep into what we can expect from Chicago’s pass-catchers this season as a result of this trade.

2022 Projections: Chicago Bears

When we loosely compare players, most people feel they have a good idea of what kind of production to expect. We may think “Justin Fields can be a QB1 with no elite weapons in the passing game due to his rushing upside.” I am here to tell you what is possible and what is not. I make projections to ground myself and help to understand what is actually possible, probable, or realistic. So, in this series, I will be going through each NFL team and making median projections for their 2022 seasons with their most fantasy-relevant players. I may be able to discern if certain players are being undervalued immediately but in most cases, I will need to finish more teams to get a good idea.

Did We Just Witness the Best WR room in College Football History?

Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba combined for 3,600/4,952 (73%) of Ohio State’s team passing yards as well as 34/46 (74%) of total passing TDs. Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson have gone down as two of the best Buckeye receivers ever after going back-to-back in the NFL Draft at number 10 and 11 overall. Jaxon on the other hand, who was the most productive of the three, will be back in Columbus for his junior season where he’s been named a team captain and he’s one of the favorites to bring home the Biletnikoff Award. Let’s take a deeper look into each of these players and why we may have just witnessed the best WR room in the history of college football.

2022 DFF Superflex Rookie Mock 4.0: Round 1

Sports Illustrated reported that over 10 NFL Teams graded Desmond Ridder as a First-Round Talent. Should Ridder meet that expected capital, his dynasty value will skyrocket above 1.12. Landing Ridder anywhere in the second half of your rookie drafts is exceptional value. I would not be surprised to see Ridder valued higher than every quarterback from the 2022 class come this time next season.

State of FFPC Dynasty: Cut Trade Keep

Hello FFPC fans! It has been a while since I wrote about the state of the Dynasty landscape. I took my lumps in the championship round, failing to win a single ship out of 12 teams that made the dance. All in all, I did just a little better than break-even, which I consider a loss considering the amount of time I put in. I also had Ja’Marr Chase (WR – CIN) on only two of those teams, where his Week 17 performance swung many league titles across the hobby. But c’est la vie as I always say.

Dynasty Market Sweep: Rookie QB Value Review

Welcome to the Dynasty Market Sweep, a weekly recurring offseason article focusing on substantial value disparities in the dynasty market consensus. The very nature of the instantaneous fantasy news feed has made the dynasty market more reactionary and volatile than ever before. Once the proverbial petrol is poured, and Twitter fingers snap to ignite, player values can burn to the ground overnight. Value changes of this nature cause a ripple effect across the market. For every step up the ladder, someone must move down and vice versa.

The Future Landscape of the Fantasy Quarterback

When most of us first started playing fantasy football Peyton Manning and Tom Brady were the guys, and now it’s Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. Drew Brees and Philip Rivers were up-and-comers, and now it’s Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert. Michael Vick was redefining the game at QB and looked like a once-in-a-lifetime talent, and now Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray are making similar highlights. The QBs have changed with the game, and a big arm with escapability outweighs the ability to be a pocket passer it seems. Youth floods the league, and every team is in search of the next best edge to win, starting with the QB position.
