Monday, the news became official that J.J. Watt had accepted an offer from the Arizona Cardinals for two years and $31 million with $23 million guaranteed. For the two and a half weeks he was a free agent, Watt had been linked to the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns, and a few other teams. For Watt, it is the end of an impressive era with the Houston Texas, who selected him 11th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. The fan-favorite won the hearts of millions with his work ethic, integrity, and authenticity. Heading into his age 32 season, J.J. The End of an Era: Watt to Leave Texans

Houston is experiencing one of the most turbulent years in sports history. No other time can I remember a city losing four superstars in a matter of just three months. In December, former MVP Russell Westbrook was jettisoned to Washington. Just a month later, Houston lost another former MVP in James Harden to Brooklyn. Ryan Tannehill had an excellent game. He completed 21/27 of his passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns, and he also added three carries for 21 yards and two rushing touchdowns. I currently rank Tannehill as my dynasty QB11. He’s locked into his current situation through 2022, and I don’t see him slowing down. I’m perfectly comfortable with Tannehill as my QB1 in a 1QB league and my QB2 in Superflex leagues.

The carnage of Week 14 is a not-so-friendly reminder to keep grinding all the way to the end of the season. Players who left the field with injuries include 49ers’ LB Fred Warner, Cardinals’ IDL Jordan Phillips, Bears’ CB Jaylon Johnson, and no fewer than four Eagles: CB Darius Slay, CB Avonte Maddox, S Rodney McLeod, and DT Malik Jackson. Three starting Raiders – DE Clelin Ferrell, LB Nicholas Morrow, and S Johnathan Abram – were sidelined, and the Raiders’ 44-27 loss to the Colts got defensive coordinator Paul Guenther canned.

Thanksgiving Day Storylines

The Cowboys come into this contest relatively healthy, of course, excluding Dak Prescott, who’s out for the season. Ezekiel Elliott continues to log limited practices with a hamstring issue, but he’s not on the game’s final injury report. Elliott looked better last week, as he took 21 carries for 103 yards for his first 100-yard game this season. Hopefully, Elliott continues his upward trend this week, although he’s a hard sell for me in dynasty leagues no matter what.

Of course, Jonathan Taylor dominated the running back touches this week, just as the Colts claimed that Nyheim Hines would see the most touches. Taylor had 22 carries for 90 yards, and he caught four passes for 24 yards. I also know that Taylor had multiple plays called back for holding, including a touchdown. Overall, I’m happy with what we saw from Taylor this week, and I hope he can build on this momentum moving forward to regain his status as a high-end dynasty RB1.

NFL box scores from Week 7 provide fantasy gamers plenty of points to chase on the waiver wire. Several established veterans repeated their Week 6 heroics and remain available in many leagues. Your writer might have some small part in the small ownership numbers. Week 7 provided clarity for several of these players’ situations that should significantly boost fantasy gamers’ interest in them. Weeks like this require careful management of limited FAAB dollars. As much as I have preached my disdain for the Eagles this year, I have to give them credit in one area. They do not let up many passing yards to their opponents. The Eagles currently rank 18th in the league allowing, on average, 243.5 passing yards per game. Now, before you grab your pitchforks, this could be a by-product of many things including poor quarterback play, game script, etc. But consider for one moment that Joe Burrow, who is breaking NFL records left and right, only threw for 312 yards in an overtime tie to Philadelphia.

Upon completion of one-quarter of the NFL season, we have enough evidence to conclude who players are and how they fit into their respective defenses. Players who we know are good finally made good on their preseason promise. Bengals’ RB Joe Mixon and Broncos’ EDGE Bradley Chubb reminded us why we drafted them. Last week we hit the running back position. This week I am hitting a tight end I believe can be added today that you can plug and play over some TEs you are holding on to in your leagues. According to ESPN, he is owned in 3.8% of leagues at the moment on My Fantasy League it jumps to 42%, however, I still do not believe that this is enough for a TE that has shown some flashes the past few weeks. A great week as we went 2-1 on our in-depth picks and 11-5(!) overall! After some average 9-7 starts this was shot in the arm we were looking for. Our strategy of picking against the Jets continues to work to perfection and (spoiler alert) we’re going to roll with it again this week.  Unfortunately, Biscuits could not keep her hot streak going and fell to 2-1 on the season. No worries though, she told me she already has her next pick locked and loaded!

A perfect 3-0 on our in-depth picks is overshadowed by one of the worst injury days I’ve ever witnessed watching the NFL. While I primarily write on sports betting, I am also an avid fantasy football player. So trust me Barkley and CMC owners, I feel you. This was brutal. So the Jaguars… aren’t… tanking? Welcome to sports betting, where a team that has jettisoned off all of its talent somehow overcomes all odds to beat a team that went all-in on 2020. I’m sure I’m not the only one that got burned by Minshew Magic if my survivor pools are any indication. But, it still doesn’t take the sting out of it. At least we had a nice rebound with Washington pulling off the upset over a banged-up Eagles team. They’re not done yet, with defensive end Vinny Curry also suffering a significant injury. This will be a year to forget for Philadelphia. Overall we went 9-7-0, which isn’t the best but certainly not the worst. We will try to build on that this week.

Against the Spread: NFL Week 1 2020

Let’s start this year off spicy. Not only do I think the Redskins cover, I think they pull off the upset and beat the Eagles outright (+225 ML). I am firmly planting my flag that the Eagles will not be a good team this year. They have been absolutely ravaged by injuries and the season hasn’t even begun. The Eagles have lost their starting left tackle, right guard, and a whole host of receivers. Down two starters on their offensive line, who do the Eagles draw Week One? Just a Washington team boasting five first-round picks in their front seven. Couple this with the reported accuracy issues Carson Wentz is experiencing so far in camp, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Washington pull off the upset in this one.
