Adrian Peterson Signed by the Titans: Rapid Reaction

The Titans are leading their division with a 6-2 record and look to continue their pace despite losing their best player. It’s hard to see them doing that with Adrian Peterson. It’s safe to say that the Titans have been successful because of Derrick Henry. A.J. Brown has only been truly back for the last two weeks and Julio Jones has been non-existent when healthy and has caused the entire aerial attack to fall well below expectations. Couple that with the atrocious defense and you have to wonder if Tennessee is the worst six-win team in the league. Peterson simply isn’t Derrick Henry, who was on pace for another historic season. Don’t get me wrong, Peterson is a legend in his own right, but is no longer the animal he was for the Vikings and shouldn’t be overhyped. He only averaged 3.87 yards a carry with the Lions last season and that should give you a benchmark for his efficiency. You’re looking at a touchdown-dependent short-term option that would only be useful for contending teams needing a plugin while they wait on injured players to return for the fantasy playoffs.

Kyler Murray Injury: Rapid Reaction

Kyler has not produced the video-game level numbers that were projected of him this offseason. Dubbed a “Konami Code” quarterback, Kyler has not rushed for a touchdown since Week 3 against the Jaguars. He has just 147 rushing yards this season, averaging a paltry 18.3 rushing yards per game. Kyler’s once rock-solid rushing upside has crumbled and should continue to decline post-injury.

Calvin Ridley Out Indefinitely: Rapid Reaction

Calvin Ridley has decided to step away from football per a statement released on Twitter. It’s already been a disappointing season for a player expected to be a top-10 receiver as the first full season as the Falcons’ WR1. Ridley’s underwhelming season comes from a combination of missing a game for personal reasons and Atlanta, particularly Matt Ryan, underperforming. We’ll break down both the redraft and dynasty impact of the news and how we move forward as the third-year player recovers.

Big Dog Built Different: Derrick Henry’s Road to a Consecutive 2K Yard Season

Call it an athletic profile if you wish, but Derrick Henry is not like any other NFL athlete at the running back position. Henry is a freight train that runs on the nightmare fuel of would-be tacklers. Comparing the reigning rushing leader to any other running back is akin to comparing a chihuahua to a pit bull. They might be the same animal, but those dogs are built differently.

Rookie Stock Report: Week 8

Elijah Mitchell continues to dominate the 49ers ‘backfield and is running as efficiently as any player should in this system. Trey Sermon has been relegated to a special teams player and doesn’t seem to be a threat, however, JaMycal Hasty has returned and received 34% of the snaps as the third-down back. This will cap Mitchell’s receiving production but the 49ers have a running scheme that gives its players a chance to score anytime they touch the ball. Mitchell lacks size but has the burst to replicate Raheem Mostert’s production and can actually stay on the field. So far anyway. Mitchell should be considered the second-ranked rookie running back behind only Najee Harris.

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 8

The bye-apocalypse last week was a big mountain to climb, but Week 8 is roughly the midpoint of the fantasy season and it is already here. For teams that won’t make the playoffs, it is already past that point. The separation is becoming clearer between contenders, pretenders, and the teams in the middle that are on the verge of a playoff berth. And the walking dead teams. A reminder to FFPC dynasty owners that the magic number for Victory Points (VP) to make the playoffs is 29, according to my research.

Rookie Stock Report: Week 7

Philadelphia’s game against Tampa Bay was strange all-around and DeVonta Smith had one of his worst games of the season. The Eagles have a banged-up offensive line and all but abandoned the run game and pass inefficiently without it complimenting the play-action. It should also be noted that Zack Ertz, who lead the team in targets for the game, is now gone. DeVonta Smith should arguably be in the ‘To the Moon’ category, but the rookie’s value may be cheaper as we head into byes and his bad game. Teams will be evaluating if they’re ready to win or not and may want to sell for something more certain.

Baker Mayfield Injury Update

On Wednesday, Baker Mayfield was ruled out of the Thursday Night Football game in which the Cleveland Browns defeated the Denver Broncos 17-14. Mayfield was ruled out after suffering his second dislocation of the season on his non-throwing left shoulder. However, it was what Mayfield said before the Thursday Night game that spoke to the seriousness of his injury.

State of the Franchise: Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks have lost four of their last five games after a closely contested overtime loss against the Steelers on SNF. Their fourth loss of the season moves the Seahawks into last place in the toughest division in the NFC. The season goal in Seattle is ‘playoffs or bust’. Multiple significant injuries to the Seahawks offensive core have left the team at the back of the race. There are many games left to play, but the outlook for the Seahawks playoff contention is darkened without two of their offensive leaders.

Rookie Stock Report: Week 6

Khalil Herbert is set to be Chicago’s RB1 for Week 6 after an injury to David Montgomery and Damien Williams being placed on the Covid list. Fortunately enough Herbert has looked like a better prospect than his draft stock would indicate and has made the most of his touches. Herbert is an explosive downhill runner that is a better backup to Montgomery than Williams. If I could get him for cheap he’s a stash I’d love to have stashed on my roster.

Zach Ertz to the Cardinals: Rapid Reaction

Many of us were expecting the Eagles to trade one of their tight ends, and many thought Ertz would be the one to go. Well, it finally happened and he landed in a very ideal spot. In this piece, I will talk about what the Cardinals’ offense has looked like so far through the season. Then I will highlight what to expect from Ertz and how he will affect the other Cardinals’ pieces. I will also discuss the Eagles and how they will differ from the loss of Ertz.

George Kittle to IR: Rapid Reaction

All-Pro tight end George Kittle’s on-field influence is undeniable. Unfortunately, he won’t be suiting up again until Week 7, at the earliest. A soft-tissue injury to Kittle’s calf has resulted in a surprising three-game stint on injured reserve after playing 92% of the 49ers’ snaps against the Seahawks in Week 4. It was unclear when Kittle sustained the damage.

Rookie Stock Report: Week 5

Kenneth Gainwell is going to be annoying for everyone, but now is not the time to sell him. The Eagles are clearly running with a two-headed approach like most of the NFL and any week can be huge with his high receiving floor and red zone usage. Gainwell is a flexy starter that will be a boom or bust option every week but the receiving work has him already ranked ahead of “starter” Miles Sanders in all formats. Sanders was a product of the old regime and it appears the new staff has more trust in Gainwell to handle two-minute drill and scoring work. Running back is too thin for you to give up a young rookie with upside.

Kyle Pitts Managers: R-E-L-A-X

For all of you freaking out about Kyle Pitts’s performance so far this season, let’s take a page out of Aaron Rodgers’s playbook and relax. Kyle Pitts is a physical beast. Let’s start this conversation off with that fact. There’s never been a prospect like him coming out of the college ranks and I was lucky enough to write about him when his name was called in April. His production was out of this world as a Florida Gator and while he has yet to see that type of output in the NFL, this week versus the Jets is when we’ll see why Atlanta used the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on him. “But Heady, you say, he is only the 18th best tight end in fantasy right now!” Keyphrase my mafiosos, “right now”, after this week, he should be well on his way to a top-10 finish on the year. He is a sure-fire start for me in all formats, someone you do not want to sleep on and I am here to tell you why.

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 5

I am prepared to say that after around almost 20 years of playing fantasy football, I have never been more wrong on any single take than I was on Brandon Aiyuk vs. Deebo Samuel. In last week’s column, I said that I felt comfortable trusting Aiyuk from here on out. Sigh. It is almost as frustrating as watching Trevor Lawrence take a step forward last Thursday while I pondered just how heavy the Chark damage would be. Somebody referred to James Robinson as a bowling ball of a running back, and I would have to agree after watching how he broke Chark’s foot on the second play of the game. Sigh. Pretty soon these sighs will become screams!

Tom Brady: Post-Record Reaction

Sixty-eight yards. That was all that separated Tom Brady from becoming the NFL’s all-time passing yards leader in Week 4. Brady surpassed Drew Brees with ease, taking hold of the record halfway through the first quarter. No one has more storied wins in Foxborough than Brady. After 20 years of dominance, Brady breaking the record is no surprise. Doing it against his former Patriots team and longtime coach Bill Belichick in a Buccaneers jersey seems surreal. With the record in the rearview, let’s look at the current state of the Tampa Bay franchise from a fantasy perspective.
