Rookie Stock Report: Week 11

Stonk Down

Running Back

Kenneth Gainwell

Week 10 Stats – Rush: 2/5/0 | Receiving: 1/9/0

Snap Share: 19%

The last few weeks have not been good for our Kenneth Gainwell shares. The rookie out of Memphis has taken a backseat to veterans Jordan Howard and Boston Scott in the absence of Miles Sanders despite mass hype and speculation. We haven’t been given a real reason for Gainwell’s lack of playing time and it’s worrisome for his value Rest of Season. The Eagles face New Orleans’ stout defense and an underrated Giants team that could stymie the entire offense and push his value down even further. This makes Gainwell a low-risk buy to stash for next season

Value Estimation: Third Rounder

Buy or Sell the Dip: Buy

Wide Receiver

Rondale Moore

Week 10 Stats: Receiving: 2/10/0

Snap Share: 33%

Target Share: 4 Targets – 14%

The massive hype that surrounded Rondale Moore has finally cooled and the reality that he’s a rookie in a loaded offense that will need a little time before he’s a reliable fantasy option has set in. Does this mean you should fade, sell, or ignore him? Absolutely not. Moore should be a top target for any team who has the assets to go and buy for next season. Both A.J. Green and Christian Kirk are Free Agents at the end of the season and either of them leaving would open up room for Moore to see consistent snaps and targets. The Cardinals spent real draft capital on Moore and he’s produced once the ball has been in his hands so take advantage of the discount while managers are hitting trade deadlines are making a playoff push.

Value Estimation: Late First Rounder

Buy or Sell the Dip: Buy

Tight End

Pat Freiermuth

Week 10 Stats: Receiving: 5/31/0 | 1 FUM

Snap Share: 62%

Target Share: 9 Targets – 18%

Mason Rudolph is the reason Pat Freiermuth had a bad week because he’s a terrible NFL quarterback. That’s it. That’s the Week 10 analysis. The rookie is having a better season than many projected and looks like the perfect slot and red zone threat for the Steelers for years to come and you should target him and not Kyle Pitts if you’re looking to get younger at a scarce position. Kyle Pitts’ value is through the roof but Freiurmuth is still affordable and worth buying right now for even a contending team.

Value Estimation: A First Rounder and probably plus some in TEP.

Buy or Sell HIgh: Buy. Good tight ends are hard to find.

HODL (Hold on for Dear Life)

Quarterback

Trevor Lawrence

Week 10 Stats – Passing: 16/35 Attempts | 162 Yards | 0/0 TD/INT | Rush: 5/33 |

Sacks Taken: 3

I’ve been concerned about Trevor Lawrence since Week 2 of training camp and the rest of the fantasy community seems to be joining me. The first QB off the board has looked inaccurate and lost. Yes, he’s a rookie. But the situation looks dire. Marvin Jones and Dan Arnold shouldn’t be your best options while scrambling behind an offensive line made of paper. We’re not even getting the garbage time fantasy production that we expected and are relying on rushing to even be relevant for SF. It’s simply too difficult to gauge the value of a prospect with immense talent and want to see how the offseason plays out before I move him off my roster too cheaply.

Running Back

Jermar Jefferson

Week 10 Stats – Rush: 3/41/1 | Receiving: Zilch

Snap Share: 4%

Jermar Jefferson has popped up on Dynasty radars after vulturing a long touchdown. Should we care enough to make moves? Probably not. Jefferson is worth a roster spot due to talent alone, but he’s firmly behind D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams in the pecking order. There’s opportunity dependent on injury because of Lion’s OC Anthony Lynn’s preference to utilize two backs but Williams has another contract year and Swift deserves more carries. Jefferson is a rookie with talent that’s valued slightly higher as a throw-in piece for a manager trying to rebuild. Don’t make any major moves to buy or sell. Jamaal Williams isn’t a steadfast piece that could be expendable so keep Jefferson on your Taxi Squad if you got him.

Wide Receiver

Josh Palmer

Week 10 Stats: Receiving: 3/22/0

Snap Share: 31%

Target Share: 4 Targets – 12%

Josh Palmer is one of my favorite Dynasty stashes and has received a tiny boost in usage. It’s hard to think that both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams will be around long-term and Palmer seems poised to be next season’s Van Jefferson-type fantasy asset with patience. The Chargers burned a third-round pick on the former Volunteer and he’s tied to one of the best young QBs in the league. Patience will be needed to realize the full potential for a player that fits the prototypical X receiver role in OC Joe Lombardi’s offense. Keep him stashed on your rosters until next season.

Stonk Up

Quarterback

Mac Jones

Week 10 Stats – Passing: 19/23 Attempts | 198 Yards | 3/0 TD/INT | Rush: LOL |

Sacks Taken: 2

Mac Jones is good and will be much better. You want him on your roster no matter what analysts like DFF’s Brad Hartnett use to nitpick a rookie with a below-average supporting cast (sorry Brad but I had to say this). The Patriots essentially have a brand new team of starters on offense and are only just now finding their stride. Couple that with New England being notoriously slow starters and it’s safe to assume that the best is yet to come this season. The offensive line has taken a step forward, Trent Brown is back at right tackle, and now the pieces are in place for Jones to have more time and less pressure while making throws downfield. New England’s rookie doesn’t have Justin Fields’ athleticism, but he has the safe skillset and situation to consistently put up Kirk Cousins-like low-end QB1 numbers that can sit in your lineup for years.

Value Estimation: 1.5 First Rounders

Buy or Sell High: Buy

Running Back

Rhamondre Stevenson

Week 10 Stats – Rush: 20/100/2 | Receiving: 4/14/0

Snap Share: 55%

It looks like the fantasy community is coming around to Rhamondre Stevenson and you should be on the bandwagon. I truly believe that the Rookie is better than Damien Harris. He has a workhorse profile and the receiving ability we could only dream of LeGarrette Blount having in an offense that loves to run the ball. Harris is certainly an obstacle, but I’m willing to bet on Bill Belichick’s frugal tendencies while he has a stable of young running backs. Harris could be a nice trade piece next season not unlike Sony Michel so I’d want Stevenson now while he’s cheap.

Value Estimation: A Second Rounder and value is climbing

Buy or Sell HIgh: Buy

Michael Carter

Week 10 Stats – Rush: 16/39/1 | Receiving: 4/43/0

Snap Share: 52%

Michael Carter has been the RB3 over the last four weeks. Let that sink in. It’s worth reminding folks that the Jets’ running back has been leading the team in target and relying on this receiving volume might not always be sustainable but the talent is being noticed. The GM and coaching staff need to put all their effort into the offensive line this offseason before we see the rushing efficiency we’d want out of a running back but I continue to be encouraged by all the moves I’ve seen thus far. Buy him now while there are still those who doubt.

Value Estimation: A First Rounder but you might be able to lowball a few analytics guys who don’t believe in him.

Buy or Sell High: Buy

Wide Receiver

Elijah Moore

Week 10 Stats: Receiving: 3/44/2

Snap Share: 56%

Target Share: 6 Targets – 13%

Elijah Moore continues to make the most out of his touches albeit while the bulk of his fantasy scoring comes from touchdowns. I have my doubts that this will be consistent for the rest of the season but it’s encouraging to see the dynamic playmaking we heard about during training camp. Moore is very good in a vacuum and is a nice roster target but don’t overpay during the Current Value pop or recency bias.

Value Estimation: First Rounder

Buy or Sell High: Buy

Rashod Bateman

Week 10 Stats – Receiving – 6/80/0

Snap Share: 55%

Target Share: 8 Targets – 19%

I’d love to see the Ravens offense do more than run RPO’s and screen passes. Lamar Jackson has been playing very good and Rashod Bateman is fitting in nicely but the entire offense is being held back by pedestrian and unimaginative playcalling. Bateman has looked much faster on the field than in his workouts and has been as consistent as a chain-mover as advertised. We just need more passes downfield and creativity. The hype is real and the price tag is likely rising so bet some chips on a talented rookie surrounded by more talent.

Value Estimation: First Rounder

Buy or Sell the Dip: Big Buy

To the Moon

Running Back

Elijah Mitchell

Week 10 Stats – Rush: 27/91/1 | Receiving: Boo

Snap Share: 53%

Elijah Mitchell had 27 attempts and finished a game with a broken finger. He is the defacto starter on a run-heavy team. You shouldn’t need more to rid yourself of the Kyle Shannahan backfield fear. Buy him.

Wide Receiver

DeVonta Smith

Week 10 Stats – Receiving – 4/66/2

Snap Share: 84%

Target Share: 6 Targets – 26%

DeVonta Smith is the clear WR1 in Philadelphia and has been worth the draft capital for both the Eagles and fantasy managers. Size hasn’t been an issue but his skill as a separator and route-runner has been a problem for defensive backs all season. This is the best receiving class I can remember and Smith is a player that is already fantasy relevant as a rookie. Get a top piece of this class now before his price creeps up even higher.

Value Estimation: A high First Rounder plus a Second or in a deal for a vet like DeAndre Hopkins or Keenan Allen.

Buy or Sell the Dip: Big Buy
