Bobby Trees Out For the Season

Robert Woods is out for the season with a torn ACL according to Adam Schefter:

This comes after managers finally get the production worth the draft capital. To be fair, most owners were already expecting a major hit to his overall value after Odell Beckham Jr. signed with the Rams, but now the bottom has fallen out on what was a playable WR3/Flex. We’ll break down the Redraft and Dynasty implications and how we should move forward the rest of the season.

Redraft Impact

You were already disappointed during the early part of the season if you went with a Zero-WR approach and expected WR1 numbers from Woods but he quietly crept up as the WR12 after Week 9 just past the halfway point of the season. Now, some people want to claw their eyes out if they weren’t one of the few to sell early (It’s me. I’m some people) and are scrambling to recover for the playoff push. Luckily WR is a deep position and there are waiver and trade options to plugin.

Van Jefferson

Roster Percentage: 41%

2021 Stats: 27/443/3

Jefferson stock has yo-yoed over the weekend after OBJ was signed and Woods immediately went down. Beckham has gone from a Rams’ luxury to an instant necessity, but Jefferson should see an immediate boost as well. He already knows the offense and had an established role. The second-year wideout has been a big-play producer but you have to hope McVay relies on him more frequently.

A.J. Green

Roster Percentage: 61%

2021 Stats: 29/456/3

Green has had surprising fantasy relevance after moving to the high-powered offense of the Cardinals. Quarterback Kyler Murray has been dishing the rock to anybody who gets open and A.J. Green has fit in perfectly as an outside complement to DeAndre Hopkins. Green won’t be WR1 league winner but he’s a boom or bust WR2/WR3 that is a worthy replacement if available.

Donovan Peoples-Jones

Roster Percentage: 42%

2021 Stats: 15/314/3

Donovan Peoples-Jones could be the Browns WR1 or 1B outside of Jarvis Landry and should be rostered much higher than 42%. DPJ has the size and big-play ability that Landry lacks along with the chemistry with Baker Mayfield that Beckham never had. The second-year wideout is a WR3 with some of the highest upside on waivers.

Dynasty Impact

The biggest questions about Woods’ Dynasty value are the recovery timeline and if you should buy or sell. You should definitely try and sell to cut your losses. Woods with be 30 and looking at upwards of 12 months of recovery time. That leaves you spending assets on an old player that might not return until Week 8 in 2022 and I don’t love those odds of him hitting late in the season. Your best option is to try and sell him in a larger deal or for a future pick that could increase in value like a 2022 3rd or a 2023 2nd.

Overall, Robert Woods’ days as high-end WR2 or low-end WR1 are likely done. The Rams are already crowded at receiver and will eventually need to relieve cap space somehow. You shouldn’t make a bet on a 30-year-old receiver coming off of a major injury. Spending as much time getting value out of him is of the utmost importance going forward.
