Against the Spread: Week 3

What a week of football! It started hot with an offensive explosion between the Cardinals and Vikings highlighted by a breakout game for second-round rookie Rondale Moore. We also had a thrilling overtime game in which the Titans took down the Seahawks. Derek Carr kept rolling as he leads the NFL in passing yards, defeating the Steelers in Pittsburgh while they bracketed Waller all game. The week was capped off with a big upset by the Ravens on Sunday Night Football. Let’s take a deeper look into the details of these games, and what data points could be sticky and applied to Week 3.

Redraft Waiver Grind: Week 2

Last week we covered Elijah Mitchell, Kenneth Gainwell, and K.J. Osborn. This week I’ll highlight three more players you should be eyeing from highest priority to lowest.

David Montgomery: 2021 Dynasty Profile

Through his first 25 career games, Montgomery had yet to break out as he was averaging just over 54 rushing YPG, 3.6 YPC, 15.9 receiving YPG, and 7.2 YPR. In his last six games, he’s averaging an astonishing 99.7 rushing YPG, 5.2 YPC, 4.0 YPR, and 37.7 YPR. His late-season push last season moved him up to the RB4 spot in PPR leagues as he served as the RB1 during the last six weeks of the 2020 season.

2021 Redraft: Isaac’s Positional “My Guys”

As draft season inches closer, it’s important to have an idea of who you want to target and when you want to target them on draft day. Below, you will find a list of “My Guys” who I will be heavily targeting at their respective ADPs in all of my redraft leagues. Keep in mind, you want to make sure you are drafting players for positional value, instead of reaching and potentially diminishing your team’s chances right out the gate. Without further adieu, let’s get started.

Searching for RB Deep Stashes

In dynasty, one of the most under-appreciated assets is the bench stash running back. These cheap assets can climb up depth charts and become useful to either your starting lineup or for trade. These types of players can be acquired for a fourth-round rookie pick or less in most leagues but can return a second-rounder or more in trades if they become a starter. Even if it’s only for a couple of weeks. For example, last season I was able to trade Ryan Nall and a third-round rookie pick for a second-round rookie pick when he took over for David Montgomery. The hardest part is finding which players are the best bets to not only remain on a team but also climb a depth chart. This article will go over certain metrics you can look for when deciding between these late-round or free-agent RBs.

Leave Your IDP Draft With Zach Cunningham

The player I can’t leave my draft without is Zach Cunningham. While a bit of an obvious choice, I want to make sure everyone is aware of who he is and the situation that surrounds him. I want to start off and preface that it is nearly impossible to predict fumbles, interceptions, and touchdowns. This is where a lot of the big points in IDP leagues come from. What’s one thing that is predictable? Tackles. This is precisely why there is an emphasis on getting a good linebacker for your team.

Rookie Quarterback Mousetrap Revisited

In 2020, Justin Herbert became the first rookie QB to throw for over 4,000 yards and 25 TDs. He broke the NFL rookie record for TD passes and completions, in fact. As a result, Keenan Allen put together a more impressive season than any WR in our sample. Still, digging a little deeper, Allen did leave some meat on the bone. He finished as the WR7 in PPG despite seeing the second-most targets per game. He recorded a career-low of 9.9 yards per reception, as well. These minor inefficiencies can likely be chalked up to the growing pains of a rookie QB.

Fourth Year: Budget “Buy-Now”

The most expensive option on this list but a clear example of the dynasty community’s “what have you done for me lately” mindset. Sutton is a player that can be bought for a late first or early second who has already produced multiple fantasy-relevant seasons, including a 72/1,112/6 season in 2019. Going into his age 26 season this year, he is a player that offers a much safer floor than others going in that ADP range having already proven he can do it with a rookie QB in Drew Lock. Sutton offers genuine WR1 upside. It would be remiss to not mention the fact that this offense has more targets than it did in 2019 now boasting Noah Fant, Jerry Jeudy, & Javonte Williams, but for a QB like Lock that is fighting for his job, he will be looking to a guy like Sutton who has performed for him before.

Bears Running Backs: 2021 Fantasy Outlook

Earlier this week, the Chicago Bears signed Damien Williams to a one-year contract, bolstering their running back room. Williams was cut from the Kansas City Chiefs after opting out of last season. This addition should affect both David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen’s fantasy outlook for the upcoming NFL season. Let’s take a look at each player’s fantasy value in 2021.

2021 NFL Draft Preview: Team Needs Picks 16 – 20

This is the fourth article of the team needs series covering teams picking 16 through 20. Obviously, free-agency acquisitions will make a major difference as to who teams will draft. These predictions and needs will therefore change as we acquire more information. However, many are of the thinking that it’s better to supplement with free-agency and build through the draft. Teams want to get young assets and have them develop cohesion with the team. Therefore, the draft is often more predictive of a team’s long-term confidence in a player.
