Dynasty Rookie Pick Hit Rates in FFPC: Part 2

Last summer I wrote about my historic FFPC dynasty rookie hit rates, and how those later picks in the third and fourth rounds typically hold at least a couple of gems. If you can find the space on the limited roster in this format, those later picks are worth scrapping for. I spend them just as easily. I never let a third-round pick get in the way of making a bigger deal that I like. Often I will add a third to my offer just to further entice my potential partner.

Gabriel Davis: Gas or Brakes?

If Gabriel Davis wasn’t on your radar before last weekend, he sure is now. After his explosive performance in the AFC Divisional Round loss to the Chiefs, a football game that some are calling the best ever played, there has been no shortage of speculation and debate about this soon-to-be third-year WR from the University of Central Florida. What do I think of Davis going forward?

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 13

The playoffs are here!! That’s right, in the Footballguys Players Championship and Main Event, the regular season ended in Week 12. The top four seeds advanced to the league playoffs that started Thursday night. Some prize money will be locked up this weekend and that is very exciting! There are still a couple of weeks left to go in Dynasty but the trade deadline has passed since my last article and there are lots of moves to go over.

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 10

There are only a few weeks of the fantasy football regular season left to go before the playoffs. According to my research, the magic number to make the playoffs in FFPC dynasty leagues is 29 Victory Points (VP). This week is probably about the last chance for teams that are in the hunt to make a legitimate push for one of the last playoff spots. If you are a contender already, then it is time to thoroughly load up for your playoff run. It depends on your league, though. In the Footballguys Players Championship (FBG) and Main Event tourneys, the regular season ends after Week 12, so there are only three weeks left to go!

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 9

All I can really say about Week 8 is that I did alright overall. I would classify it as a “come-back-to-Earth” kind of week. I had solid results in Redraft and really didn’t do so well at all in Dynasty. But by having performed so well up to this point, I have earned some cushion to be able to absorb weeks like this. I have suspected for a while now that Week 9 would be the much better (worse) sequel to the bye-apocalypse that occurred in Week 7. And so far that has proven to be correct.

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 8

The bye-apocalypse last week was a big mountain to climb, but Week 8 is roughly the midpoint of the fantasy season and it is already here. For teams that won’t make the playoffs, it is already past that point. The separation is becoming clearer between contenders, pretenders, and the teams in the middle that are on the verge of a playoff berth. And the walking dead teams. A reminder to FFPC dynasty owners that the magic number for Victory Points (VP) to make the playoffs is 29, according to my research.

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 5

I am prepared to say that after around almost 20 years of playing fantasy football, I have never been more wrong on any single take than I was on Brandon Aiyuk vs. Deebo Samuel. In last week’s column, I said that I felt comfortable trusting Aiyuk from here on out. Sigh. It is almost as frustrating as watching Trevor Lawrence take a step forward last Thursday while I pondered just how heavy the Chark damage would be. Somebody referred to James Robinson as a bowling ball of a running back, and I would have to agree after watching how he broke Chark’s foot on the second play of the game. Sigh. Pretty soon these sighs will become screams!

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 4

I knew the Cleveland Browns defense was going to be tough for Justin Fields and the Bears offense to contend with, but I didn’t think it would yield one of the all-time worst performances by an offense in the history of the game. I had a lot of success in Week 3, and am beginning to see some positive separation and patterns in my dynasty leagues, but the debacle by Fields and company really hurt me. Especially in some redraft leagues.

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 3

Whew. This past week was much better than the first. Most of my teams that started off with a loss got back to even and a number of solid teams moved to 2-0. Sadly there are more 0-2 teams in my portfolio than I would like. We know a lot more about the landscape out there today than we did two weeks ago, but we still need more time for the process of variance to give us a clearer picture. I have made some crucial start/sit mistakes but am hoping to get ahead of the curve this week and I hope you do, too.

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 2

As I got comfortable in my recliner a few minutes before kickoff this past Sunday, I told my wife about how the first week of NFL action can be really wild. I explained a little about the nonsense with Trey Sermon (RB – SF) being deactivated, and that although I was surprised and disappointed, I had drafted Elijah Mitchell (RB – SF) in nearly half my leagues as a late dart throw and stood to come out ahead. The only thing better than getting Mitchell in a couple of waivers this week was knowing I already took him in the fourth round of rookie drafts back in May and anywhere between the 16th and 20th rounds of redrafts this year. Here is my redraft RB top 4 for ownership:

FFPC Dynasty & Redraft Series: Week 1

The 2021 NFL season starts this week! Tampa Bay and Dallas kick off on Thursday night but you can still draft a Footballguys Players Championship team through Saturday. First place pays $500,000 and I finished third in the contest in 2019. It is now my life goal to take the big prize down. The Main Event also pays half a million and that would be fine, too.

Between these two large national redraft contests and all of my FFPC dynasty squads, I have 66 teams that I am managing. That is a lot of cheddar, a lot of waiver pickups, a lot of start/sit decisions, and a lot of time and energy. Everyone gets the prerogative to enjoy this hobby at whatever level they feel comfortable with. For me, it is a part-time career that involves the IRS and I have hired an assistant General Manager. That level may not be for everybody.

But for hardcore FFPC players like me, or for the more casual FFPC player, and for anyone in between, this is the first in a weekly series to give you actionable advice on the FFPC dynasty and redraft landscapes. I’d like to emphasize the Superflex format, but otherwise, I will focus on the waiver wire, trade market, general FF gamesmanship topics, and I will highlight one or two auctioned teams I bought from dynastydepot.com as those teams are all competing on their website for a handful of Main Event and FBG teams for 2022, as well as other weekly prizes.

Auction Redraft Anatomy and Tiered Player Values

The first fantasy football (FF) league that I ever played in was an auction league. It has now been running for 12 years and we have our draft scheduled for Labor Day Weekend, like usual. Auction redrafts are so much fun and I highly recommend them! I am very thankful that I cut my teeth for a few years in such a league before eventually started playing dynasty.

2021 Dynasty Profile: Bryan Edwards

Many of us in the dynasty community were excited about Bryan Edwards last year, but based on the stats he put up as a rookie, it is fair to call him a rookie face planter. Historically, wide receivers who fail to reach meaningful thresholds are longshots to ever emerge in the future. I think Edwards can be an exception to the rule. Given proper context, much of last year’s poor fantasy stats can be explained.

Chasing Ships and Flipping Pieces: Part 3

The season is almost upon us! In FFPC leagues, there are barely two weeks left before we have to cut our rosters down to 20, including a kicker and a defense. On some of my dynasty squads, I am facing some steep cuts and difficult choices. How do I go about deciding which players to cut? Can I make some two-for-one trades that clear roster spots for me, or players for picks? Am I going to be fielding a competitive team that can contend for the title? Will there be a couple of impact players available on the first waiver run, and if so, will I have room to roster them? What about some later-round rookie picks that flashed during the preseason and I want to develop them?

Dynasty Rookie Pick Hit Rates in FFPC

Most rookie drafts are done by now, though there may still be a few going on. If you are reading this and you still have some late-round draft picks for this year, don’t give them up just yet! You may think they are worthless or that you don’t have room on your roster for these assets, but there can and are league winners to be found in the third round or later of rookie drafts.

DFF Redraft League: Drafting from the Twelve Spot

This week I drafted an 18-man roster in a 14-team 0.5 PPR staff redraft league for @DFF_Fantasy. It is also TE Premium, where they get a full 1.0 PPR. There are 11 starting positions, QB/2RB/2WR/TE/3FLEX/K/DEFplus seven bench spots. There are also bonus points for converted first downs, both on receptions and in the running game.

How Much Is A FFPC Dynasty Roster Spot Worth?

How much is a dynasty roster spot worth? Or how much should it be worth? Has anyone really tried to come up with a quantitative measure that can be actionable in some way when we are managing our dynasty rosters? We have trade calculators, rankings, projections, all customizable by league settings (for the most part). But roster spots are largely ignored. When a trade is made that involves a two-for-one player exchange, a roster spot has been cleared for one owner. Or perhaps two spots in a three-for-one, although those kinds of deals are rarer.

FFPC SuperFlex Startups: Crazy to Wait on QB?

SuperFlex (SF) formats have become more and more popular over the last couple of years. In the FFPC Dynasty world, 42% of all startups in 2021 have been SF. This was the going rate back in 2020 as well. Before 2020, SF only made up about 11% of the total number of dynasty leagues on their site. Now it is closer to 26% and rising. I fell in love with this format and hold 19 FFPC SF dynasty squads.
