Playoff berths and seedings are on the line. Fantasy gamers, it’s time to survive and advance. That means spotting production that’s repeatable from one week to the next. A proactive pick-up is a player with growing snaps counts and improving play that poises him for a break-out. A reactive pick-up is a player who suddenly posted big numbers due to an injury to or benching of a player ahead of him on the depth chart.

Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire: Week 11

The rate of injuries was yet again merciful to IDP fantasy gamers. Rams safety Taylor Rapp was one of very few players rostered in more than a third of IDP leagues on MyFantasyLeague.com who exited early. Rapp doesn’t belong on a redraft roster in 2020 anyway. Fantasy gamers browsing box scores, meanwhile, will have a tougher time discerning oasis from mirage on the waiver wire in Week 11. Seattle’s DJ Reed, for instance, piled up tackles and carries the position designation of “safety” on multiple platforms. Due to injuries, Reed has been pressed into service at cornerback, where he’s been an attractive target for opposing quarterbacks.

Well, all good things must come to an end.  The Jets did it. They finally covered a spread this season bringing an end to a 0-6 record against the spread. I would like to say I’m proud of them, but really this was simply an exercise in the Bills’ ineptitude more than anything. Overall, we went positive on the week again and 2-1 in our in-depth picks! Full disclosure, I have a lot of favorites picked this week which may not bode well as favorites have only covered 44.8% of the time this year. Week 7 Thursday Night Storylines

Last week, I wrote a couple of articles breaking down the early and late games on the Week 6 slate. I picked one dynasty storyline from each contest, and I focused on that topic to give my readers something to watch for during the game. Week 7 Streamers

Herbert has been nothing short of spectacular, averaging 21.8 fantasy points/game as the Chargers’ starting quarterback. In Week 5 against the Saints, Herbert threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns, finishing with 27.4 fantasy points on the week. Herbert also adds a bit of value with his legs, although he only averages 13.8 rushing yards/game. However, even a few rushing yards can make the difference at the quarterback positions, as QB scoring is tight outside of the top options. In Week 7, Herbert draws a dream matchup against the Jaguars’ porous defense. They’ve given up 30 or more points in every game since Week 1 in five straight losses. Opposing quarterbacks average two touchdowns, 274 passing yards, and a 106.8 passer rating versus the Jaguars. I expect Herbert to carve up the Jaguars in this game, and I have Herbert ranked as a borderline QB1 for the week.

Looking Ahead to Week 7

In this weekly article, I’m going to look ahead to the following week. I’ll point out a few players below 40% owned on ESPN who have strong matchups next week that you can pick up ahead of time to beat the waiver run. I’ll also try and get ahead of breakouts that could happen in the current week, as predicting breakouts is the best way to save your FAAB budget.

Mecole Hardman is 40.2% owned and just misses the 40% cut. But, with Sammy Watkins out, he’s an absolute must-add ahead of a potential Week 6 breakout.

NFL Player Props: Week 5

As much as I have preached my disdain for the Eagles this year, I have to give them credit in one area. They do not let up many passing yards to their opponents. The Eagles currently rank 18th in the league allowing, on average, 243.5 passing yards per game. Now, before you grab your pitchforks, this could be a by-product of many things including poor quarterback play, game script, etc. But consider for one moment that Joe Burrow, who is breaking NFL records left and right, only threw for 312 yards in an overtime tie to Philadelphia.

A great week as we went 2-1 on our in-depth picks and 11-5(!) overall! After some average 9-7 starts this was shot in the arm we were looking for. Our strategy of picking against the Jets continues to work to perfection and (spoiler alert) we’re going to roll with it again this week.  Unfortunately, Biscuits could not keep her hot streak going and fell to 2-1 on the season. No worries though, she told me she already has her next pick locked and loaded!

A perfect 3-0 on our in-depth picks is overshadowed by one of the worst injury days I’ve ever witnessed watching the NFL. While I primarily write on sports betting, I am also an avid fantasy football player. So trust me Barkley and CMC owners, I feel you. This was brutal. Against the Spread: NFL Week 2

So the Jaguars… aren’t… tanking? Welcome to sports betting, where a team that has jettisoned off all of its talent somehow overcomes all odds to beat a team that went all-in on 2020. I’m sure I’m not the only one that got burned by Minshew Magic if my survivor pools are any indication. But, it still doesn’t take the sting out of it. At least we had a nice rebound with Washington pulling off the upset over a banged-up Eagles team. They’re not done yet, with defensive end Vinny Curry also suffering a significant injury. This will be a year to forget for Philadelphia. Overall we went 9-7-0, which isn’t the best but certainly not the worst. We will try to build on that this week.
