We are going to build them out from the standpoint of their physical acumen, their athletic abilities, and then bring it full circle by looking into their college production. There is no time when a draft pick is more valuable than when it is on the clock in your rookie draft. You have the power to select your favorite rookie prospect, but you also have the opportunity to trade the rights to the pick for what you view as more value to a league mate. Joe Mixon: 2021 Dynasty Profile

Joe Mixon played college football at the University of Oklahoma from 2014-2016. As a redshirt sophomore, Mixon racked up over 1,800 yards from scrimmage and scored 15 TDs. After his strong 2016 season, Mixon declared for the 2017 NFL Draft. During the pre-draft process, he measured in at 6’ 1”, 226 lbs. and registered an impressive 92nd-percentile speed score with his 4.50 40-yard dash. Under different circumstances, Mixon could’ve easily been a first-round pick. Due to character concerns and an incredible RB class that included Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook, and Christian McCaffrey, Mixon slipped into the second round where he was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals.

NFL Player Props: Week 11

What a fun story, I almost have to latch on! Following the injury to Drew Brees, Taysom Hill was named the starting quarterback for the Saints’ Week 11 game against the Falcons. Even before Hill was named the starting quarterback, he was garnering significant red zone looks. He is fourth on the team with 14 and has had six in the past two weeks. Now that he’s taking a majority of the snaps, it stands to reason that he’ll see even more action in the red zone. You’re getting plus money on this one too, making it an attractive player prop for this week.

Week 6 Buy/Sell

Six weeks is a long time. Remember last year, when Joe Mixon was RB32 and DJ Chark was WR2 through the first six games? We had seen six weeks of evidence that Mixon was an unquestionable bust and that Chark was the next big thing. Chark had a bit more than double Mixon’s points in standard scoring. If you had traded Chark away for Joe Mixon at that point, let’s just say that some eyebrows would have been raised. That would have been a bold move, but it would have been the right move. Mixon scored 145 to Chark’s 70 standard points from weeks 7-17.

Of course, you’re never going to get the timing right on trades like these. The point here is to be bold. If you believe in a player, go get him. Here are some guys we’re looking to get, and some we’re looking to get rid of.

Nick Chubb Injury: Rapid Reaction

During the Browns’ Week 4 49-38 victory over the Cowboys, star running back Nick Chubb suffered an MCL injury. A Cowboys’ player rolled up on him from behind, causing the injury. At the time, Chubb was rolling, with six carries for 43 yards. Honestly, this injury must feel extremely disappointing for Chubb. He struggled through an awful ACL tear in college, which severely hurt his draft stock. However, since that injury in 2015, Chubb has remained practically completely healthy. He played every single game from 2016-2019 throughout two years at Georgia and two years in the NFL.

As expected, McCaffrey was the first overall selection, leaving me facing down the barrel of the next best dual-threat running back in Saquon Barkley. Barkley surpassed 1,000-yards rushing in 2019 despite missing time and is the most talented pass-catcher on the roster. By the time the 2.11 pick came around 16 running backs and 6 wide receivers had been selected. Choosing between Jonathan Taylor, Allen Robinson, and Travis Kelce at the top of their respective positions I decided that Kelce offered the best value over a replacement player at his position. At the 3.02 turn with Kittle having been selected it was far too tantalizing to pass up the opportunity to stack Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. Referencing the above tweet from Scott Barrett, the plan was to go all on stacking the RB1, TE1, and QB1 and hope for the best when it comes to depth.

You know, it’s funny. I remember lounging in my La-Z-Boy recliner almost one year ago, to the day, and seeing Darren Waller’s name amongst 2020s predicted top 10 TE’s, by some of the very best in the industry. My initial reaction was to scoop him up, wherever possible. After this happened though, I immediately found myself wanting to trade him for a lofty return. However, bad luck hit when I found myself as the lone believer, in most of my leagues. Eventually, I concluded that Waller was just another dart throw and I wanted to invest in a much higher-ceilinged asset. Oh, the folly of man. Well, as luck would have it, Mr. Waller not only lived up to his lofty expectations, he surpassed them by clocking in as your 2019 TE3 (PPR).

Austin Hooper: 2020 Dynasty Profile

Austin Hooper was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft. Through his first four seasons in the NFL, Hooper has seen his targets, receptions, yards, and touchdowns all increased year over year. His most productive season was in 2019. Hauling in 75 catches, 787 yards, and six scores in only 13 games. This offensive output had Hooper finishing the season at TE6 in PPR formats.

Kareem Hunt: 2020 Dynasty Profile

Kareem Hunt was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round out of the University of Toledo where he put up some significant numbers. Hunt broke out in his freshman year and finished his college career with three straight seasons of 10+ touchdowns. Hunt went into the season as their number two running back but that changed after their starting running back Spencer Ware went down in the pre-season. Hunt was named the starter and never really looked back. Playing in all 16 games, Hunt had 272 rushes for 1,327 yards and 8 rushing touchdowns. Hunt added 53 receptions, 455 yards, and three receiving touchdowns.

Jarvis Landry: 2020 Dynasty Profile

Jarvis Landry was the WR21 in fantasy points per game in a season where Baker Mayfield experienced a decreased yards-per-attempt, completion rate, and touchdown rate. All signs point toward Mayfield taking a step forward this season and the Browns being a much more efficient offense in general. Expect the offense to still run through Landry and the run game, with Odell Beckham providing the electric plays. All contending fantasy teams should be trading for Landry with a WR2 floor and low WR1 upside.

Potentially more than ever, Jarvis Landry finds his way into any and every conversation revolving around the notion of buying low in a dynasty setting. Just days after the Browns placed the WR on the active/PUP list, Old Tom has a feeling you’re going to find a few owners a little concerned. I recently took part in a 1QB, PPR redraft mock with eleven other members of the DFF crew. I was very happy with the results, so I’d like to break down my team and my decision-making process throughout the draft. I entered the draft planning to select RBs in the first three rounds before addressing any other positions. This strategy, which I broke down in great detail here, is one I’ve been implementing whenever possible this offseason. I expected to target WR in the middle rounds while waiting to get my QB and TE late, which worked out perfectly.

Nick Chubb: 2020 Dynasty Profile

Nick Chubb has had excellent success in his two NFL seasons. Once he took over from Carlos Hyde in 2018, Chubb began dominating the carries in the Browns’ backfield. From Weeks 7-17, Chubb was the RB8 and averaged 16.5 PPR points per game. He had 17.6 rushing attempts per game over that span, sharing only minimal touches with the Browns’ other running backs. Then in 2019, Chubb took a whopping 298 carries and gained 1,494, second in the NFL behind only Derrick Henry in both categories. Even once Kareem Hunt rejoined the Browns, Chubb still paced for over 1,350 yards across a full season. While Chubb lost passing-game work to Hunt, he was the Browns’ primary back and would have been a fantasy star if he’d been more successful in the red zone.

Redraft Team Focus: Browns

I see Chubb as very similar to Derrick Henry. Chubb had 298 carries in 2018 compared to Henry’s 303, so they were close in carry count. The significant differences were that Chubb had 36 receptions while Henry had only 18, but Henry scored 18 total touchdowns to Chubb’s eight. I think the Browns’ offense will be better overall than the Titans’, so Chubb should improve his touchdown total in 2020. While I do expect Chubb to lose a lot of receiving production, I think he could have around 25 catches in 2019, which isn’t bad. Also, the Browns replaced horrific head coach Freddie Kitchens with Kevin Stefanski, who ran the Vikings’ run-heavy attack behind Dalvin Cook in 2019.
