Sleeper of the Week

Sleeper of the Week: New Series

typical fantasy owner is often wary of players that they haven’t seen produce in the NFL or those that don’t have “name value.” Rookies are often under drafted in most redraft leagues since they don’t have prior NFL stats. Also, players that put up decent stats but stayed off the fantasy radar can represent good sleepers. In this case, the goal is to exploit an information gap between informed and casual fantasy owners.

To keep things consistent, I will follow a particular format in this series. I’ll begin by discussing the player’s past production and history, focusing on their prior stats in the NFL and, in some cases, their draft profile. Then, I’ll move into why that player is a sleeper, specifically looking at and debunking negative narratives around that player. And finally, I’ll move into their expected 2020 outlook, and where I would draft the player on my redraft teams.

With that all out of the way, let’s get into my first sleeper, Hayden Hurst.

Karp’s Favorite Fantasy Format

No matter the format, the most important thing is that you and your league mates enjoy playing together. Play the types of leagues you like, and feel free to try new leagues. However, it’s also okay if you don’t want to play a specific format, like how I feel about IDP leagues. Just be a good person and an active owner, and you’ll enjoy your time in this world.

DFF Rookie Round Table, Part 7: Antonio Gandy-Golden

After recently releasing my rookie rankings, I wanted to open up the floor to constructive criticism.  I also wanted to see where I was not aligned with other DFF analysts. So, we conducted a round table discussion. This discussion is now a 10-part series of informal articles. In these articles, analysts debate why some of their favorite rookie(s) should be moved up. And in one case, moved down!

Redraft Team Focus: Ravens

I’m analyzing every one of the 32 NFL teams and all of their redraft-relevant fantasy assets in this article series. It’s a long project, but I want to make sure that you, the reader, have something you can refer to for every team. For each article, I’ll split up the fantasy assets into three categories: high-end assets, usable contributors, and dart throws. Let’s jump into the Ravens.

Redraft SF/TE Prem Mock Draft: QB Strategy

Recently, the DFF team and I participated in a PPR, superflex, 1.5 PPR tight end premium redraft mock. Unlike our previous mock draft breakdowns, I’m not planning to go team-by-team and discuss how much I like each roster. However, I’ll reference my team, which I drafted from the 1.05 slot, as a basis for my general thoughts. The point of this exercise was to look at quarterback value and tight end value in this format and draw conclusions about strategy. In this first part, I’ll discuss how to handle the quarterback position in redraft superflex leagues, compared to both dynasty superflex and redraft 1QB formats.

Dynasty Debates: Kyler Murray vs Lamar Jackson

It’s time for the second article of my Dynasty Debates series, which tries to break down popular debates in the dynasty community. Last time I discussed Josh Jacobs and if he can be an elite fantasy option. Today I will discuss a prevalent debate of who do you want going forward: Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson?

NFL Schedule Release Reaction

This article will be a reaction to the release of the 2020 NFL schedule. Most of all, I’m excited that we have a schedule. I’m looking forward to the return of football in September, and this schedule makes it feel more real. Specifically, I’ll go through the two things that matter the most in redraft formats: bye weeks and early-season schedules.

A Look Back: Rookie Targets

Continuing my “A Look Back” series, I wanted to go back even further than the 2019 regular season and reference some of my 2019 pre-draft content. In this two-part article, I’m going to take a look at two articles I published in mid-to-late August 2019 about rookies in redraft. Let’s start with the three targets.

Taxi Squad Spring Cleaning Part 4: QB Edition

In this series of articles, I’m looking at rookies from the 2019 class that can be removed from your taxi squads to make room for 2020 rookies. These are players that all have little to no dynasty value, but dynasty owners selected in at least some 2019 rookie drafts. This is the quarterback edition.

A Look Back and Forward: 10 Best Values (Part 2)

In this two-part article, I’m taking a look at the 10 best draft values from the 2019 redraft season. I started by choosing five players from the top 50 in ADP in part one, found here, and now I’ll pick five players from the rest of the draft in part two. As in part one, I will be using Yahoo’s final half PPR ADP. In addition to revisiting how these players performed in 2019, I will also briefly touch on what I expect going forward into 2020. I’ll limit eligible players to the top 150 and might examine the best waiver wire wonders in a future piece.

Dynasty Thanksgiving

thaHappy early Thanksgiving! I’m not much of the sentimental type but I thought it apt to share some of the players that I’m thankful for this season. It’s so easy to lament the poor performances and the underperformers in fantasy, but I wanted to put something positive into the universe. There is no criteria for

Redraft Week 3 Buys and Sells

Given the number of injuries that happened this past week, I think every position has room for trades this week. That won’t always be the case, because hardly anybody trades quarterbacks, and tight ends aren’t deep enough to justify trading one away. Regardless, these are the players that I would target for trades this week, whether your team has injury concerns or not.

Yahoo DFS: Main Slate Cash and GPP Plays for Week Three

It looks like the team over at Yahoo Daily Fantasy Sports resisted rolling out mass multi-entry products for as long as they could, as three weeks into the NFL season they now have 125 max and 150 max entry limits in their two biggest contests. We should assume some sort of shift in their marketing strategy is coming, as well as CSV-upload capability, relatively soon. It likely signals the end of the 10 entry maximum era there, and it will be interesting to see if targeting the high dollar mass multi-entry market can elevate them to the level of FanDuel and DraftKings eventually.

NFL Draft Round 1 Instant Reaction: Marquise Brown to the Baltimore Ravens

[profiler]Marquise Brown[/profiler] – Wide Receiver Marquise Brown was the first receiver selected in the 2019 NFL Draft. There had been much speculation that this would be the case, even if most in the dynasty community (including myself) doubted it. Brown’s calling card is blazing speed. But he is also a good route runner, a YAC
