Thursday Night Storylines: Week 11

Russell Wilson was on fire through the Seahawks’ first five games. He had thrown 19 touchdowns compared to three interceptions, and he was on pace for 4,800 passing yards. The Seahawks had also won all five of those contests, placing them as one of the league’s best teams. However, since the Seahawks’ Week 6 bye, Wilson hasn’t been the same player over the last four games. The Seahawks have lost three of those four games, and Wilson has suddenly become a turnover machine. He’s lost three fumbles and thrown seven interceptions, including three interceptions in his last game versus the Cardinals. I would love to see Wilson right the ship this week, but I might have to drop him slightly in my dynasty quarterback rankings if he doesn’t.

Week 10 Buy/Sell

You know who’s fun? Kyler Murray. He’s just amazing to watch. I have no idea how his legs move so quickly. He’s also smart. He gets slides to avoid hits better than any NFL player I’ve ever seen. What a fun player to watch. You know who is also fun? DeAndre Hopkins. Zach and I have friends who are Texans’ fans and it’s just ridiculously fun to dunk on the trade that sent Hopkins to Arizona. Nuk is an absolute baller and that trade was a travesty. Now… you know what’s not fun? When Kyler threw up what is now being called the Hail Murray to Hopkins to win on Sunday. Why was it not fun? Because it allowed Zach to beat me by six points. Yeah… not fun. So let’s talk about something that is fun. How about some trade targets!

Difference Makers by Position: QB

In this series, I am going to list difference makers at each position for your dynasty teams. These are the players that simply separate themselves from the rest of the pack in fantasy scoring one way or another. If your team has one of these players on it, more than likely you have been pleasantly surprised or are receiving exactly what you expected. More than likely these players are outperforming their ADP and may even be unrecognized due to the teams they are on underperforming.

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 10

Dynasty Risers and Fallers Week 10

In this weekly piece, I will bring you some risers and fallers from a dynasty lens. Whether it’s injuries, performance, or value, I want to discuss how players have moved around. Based on the week’s events, I’ll give some advice on how to act on the market’s movement, whether it’s buying, selling, or holding.

I won’t limit myself to talking about any specific players or teams because I want to have the freedom to discuss whatever is most relevant. Also, of course, there are more risers and fallers than those I’m listing. However, it’s impossible to cover every single one of them, as dynasty values change weekly for many players. With that said, let’s jump into the risers first, followed by the fallers.

Week 1 Streamers

In this streaming article, I will provide you the best weekly options to stream quarterback, tight end, and D/ST. In each section, I’ll break down two streamers in detail, both of which will be under 50% owned, according to ESPN’s ownership percentage at the time of writing. Playing the matchups is a crucial feature of redraft fantasy football and, especially in a crazy 2020 season, active fantasy owners will have a massive advantage. I also want to provide added value for each type of streamer this season. I’ll highlight any players from 50-60% owned in each section if they’re superior options to both of my streaming candidates at that specific position. Those players are “probably owned,” but they could be out there in 10-team or shallower formats. I won’t offer analysis on these players, just the names and matchups. If neither of my two suggested streamers is under 25% ownership percentage, I will give a “super-deep” option. That feature should help those owners playing in deeper leagues with few waiver-wire options. Like the “probably owned” players, I’ll list the players without analysis. I realize that all leagues are different, and I want to accommodate all of my readers.

Even though it’s Week 1, many fantasy drafts happened a while ago, and now fantasy owners are looking for streamers. Let’s jump into it!

The Guide: A Round-by-Round Roadmap to Acing Your 2020 Fantasy Draft

I get the same email every year. It usually comes in the first couple of days in September. It’s from a friend who I used to work with. This person is extremely competitive; the kind of person who hates losing more than loves winning. The email is a call for help. My friend knows almost nothing about fantasy football, but wants to crush the people in the fantasy league she was invited to a few years back. I love writing the reply because it allows me to finalize my draft strategy after months of mock drafts and research. This year, I’m happy to make that strategy public. Here it is… the guide!

Let’s Fix the Snake Draft: Third-Round Reversal

The Dynasty Football Factory gathered once more to partake in a 12-team redraft league mock draft! But this time, we shook things up. We went with tight end premium scoring, as well as 0.25 points per carry. The tight end premium doesn’t raise the value of all tight ends, but it does create an even larger gap between the top and the rest. The point per carry adds a little bit more value to your bell-cow running backs. The biggest change? Third-Round Reversal.

Why Veterans Key Champs

Why Veterans Are the Key to Fantasy Championships: A 2020 Edition

In dynasty leagues, there’s always a delicate balance that owners must forge between dynasty value and winning championships. In the end, the goal is to win the most championships possible, as quickly as possible. However, sometimes, dynasty owners need to rebuild and trade away their veterans to return to contending status.

There’s nothing wrong with that approach, as I detailed in an article guiding dynasty owners in determining whether they’re contenders or not. Taking a mild step backward to take a big step forward is a healthy decision and often tough to make. With that said, I want to move away from individual dynasty teams and look more closely at how two specific groups of players have performed over time. It’s time for an in-depth breakdown of what rookies and older veterans do for your roster.

Redraft Mock – Zero-RB Approach

Mock drafts are a place to let your wildest ideas play out in hopes of developing a new strategy for how to attack your 2020 drafts. In this 12-team redraft mock, I selected out of the 10th spot. I chose this spot because I typically don’t like to draft from the end. So, to be as prepared as possible, I wanted to see what kind of team I could come up with selecting at the end of this snake draft. Going into the draft I did not have a set plan on what I wanted to do other than to choose who I felt was the best available player on the board regardless of position. This process turned into a zero-RB approach, which I have never endorsed or tried previously. So join me as I venture into the always polarizing strategy of the zero-RB.

A Redraft Journey: DeAndre Hopkins

In April, I started writing a series focusing on one player at a time, called “A Redraft Journey.” Like my “Dead to Me” series, I take a deep dive into a single player, breaking down their entire career in redraft fantasy football. However, unlike that series, this set of articles is meant to be more positively toned. The links to the full set of previous entries are at the bottom of this article. It’s time to jump into DeAndre Hopkins, one of the best wide receivers in fantasy football over the past few years. But what has he truly brought to fantasy owners? There’s only one way to find out.

Redraft SF/TE Prem Mock Draft: QB Strategy

Recently, the DFF team and I participated in a PPR, superflex, 1.5 PPR tight end premium redraft mock. Unlike our previous mock draft breakdowns, I’m not planning to go team-by-team and discuss how much I like each roster. However, I’ll reference my team, which I drafted from the 1.05 slot, as a basis for my general thoughts. The point of this exercise was to look at quarterback value and tight end value in this format and draw conclusions about strategy. In this first part, I’ll discuss how to handle the quarterback position in redraft superflex leagues, compared to both dynasty superflex and redraft 1QB formats.

Sophomore Breakout Series: QB

With superflex leagues taking the fantasy world by storm the last couple years, quarterbacks have gone from a streaming position to vital assets just like the real franchises we imitate. Use what we have seen from QBs in their rookie seasons to your advantage. In this article, I hope to shed light on the quarterbacks I expect to have a sophomore breakout.

Dynasty Debates: Kyler Murray vs Lamar Jackson

It’s time for the second article of my Dynasty Debates series, which tries to break down popular debates in the dynasty community. Last time I discussed Josh Jacobs and if he can be an elite fantasy option. Today I will discuss a prevalent debate of who do you want going forward: Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson?

NFL Schedule Release Reaction

This article will be a reaction to the release of the 2020 NFL schedule. Most of all, I’m excited that we have a schedule. I’m looking forward to the return of football in September, and this schedule makes it feel more real. Specifically, I’ll go through the two things that matter the most in redraft formats: bye weeks and early-season schedules.

Taxi Squad Spring Cleaning Part 4: QB Edition

In this series of articles, I’m looking at rookies from the 2019 class that can be removed from your taxi squads to make room for 2020 rookies. These are players that all have little to no dynasty value, but dynasty owners selected in at least some 2019 rookie drafts. This is the quarterback edition.

Three Running Backs I Love in Dynasty 2020

Running backs come and go quickly in the NFL these days. On average their careers last roughly three years and it’s impossible to predict when an injury will end a season for one player and start it for the next. In this article, I’ll be diving into metrics that show you why I love these three backs who will exceed your expectations going into 2020 after breaking out last season. You need to have an RB1 that can handle the rigors of the season, produce with limited carries, and avoid contact in order to avoid injury.  Our fantasy expectation has to shift from the total number of carries per game and more towards the total number of touches. The following are examples of running backs I love in dynasty formats.

Three Breakout Quarterbacks for Dynasty in 2020

Quarterbacks in most cases do not win you championships in traditional fantasy football leagues. However, getting a solid starter can give you an edge for many years. Here we highlight three young quarterbacks that are poised for not only a breakout in the NFL but your trust at the helm of your dynasty team.
