IDP Wrap Up: Week 4

The Buffalo Bills pitched a shutout playing against a depleted Houston offense Sunday in New York. Week 5 will be a lot tougher, as the team has to square off against the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs, but this week the Buffalo defenders dominated. In the effort, the team defense created three sacks, a fumble recovery, and four interceptions to secure the win. IDP players of note for the Bills include Tremaine Edmunds, Cam Lewis, and Star Lotulelei.

Week 5 Streamers

What a start to the 2021 fantasy season. We’ve seen some great streaming options work out rather well (Sam Darnold), and we’ve witnessed others struggle to post solid point totals (Austin Hooper). Last week, most of the streaming options hit, and the “deep stream” option for Dalton Schultz paid off tremendously (17.8 PPR points). Take a look at this week’s top streaming options for Week 5 below. Throughout this series, we will provide the best weekly options to stream at quarterback, tight end, and D/ST. Keep in mind, each streaming option will be below 50% owned, according to ESPN leagues.

Against The Spread: Week 4

The most exciting game of the week was when the Chargers traveled to Kansas City for a matchup between two of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. Justin Herbert came out of the gates strong, building an early 14-0 lead in the first half. The comeback that was expected from Patrick Mahomes, was delivered in the third quarter with consecutive passing scores to take a 17-14 lead. The fourth quarter of this game may have been the most exciting 15 minutes of football this season.

Against the Spread: Week 3

What a week of football! It started hot with an offensive explosion between the Cardinals and Vikings highlighted by a breakout game for second-round rookie Rondale Moore. We also had a thrilling overtime game in which the Titans took down the Seahawks. Derek Carr kept rolling as he leads the NFL in passing yards, defeating the Steelers in Pittsburgh while they bracketed Waller all game. The week was capped off with a big upset by the Ravens on Sunday Night Football. Let’s take a deeper look into the details of these games, and what data points could be sticky and applied to Week 3.

Searching for RB Deep Stashes

In dynasty, one of the most under-appreciated assets is the bench stash running back. These cheap assets can climb up depth charts and become useful to either your starting lineup or for trade. These types of players can be acquired for a fourth-round rookie pick or less in most leagues but can return a second-rounder or more in trades if they become a starter. Even if it’s only for a couple of weeks. For example, last season I was able to trade Ryan Nall and a third-round rookie pick for a second-round rookie pick when he took over for David Montgomery. The hardest part is finding which players are the best bets to not only remain on a team but also climb a depth chart. This article will go over certain metrics you can look for when deciding between these late-round or free-agent RBs.

DFF Draft Coverage: Jermar Jefferson to the Lions

Jermar Jefferson broke out as a true freshman in 2018 as he garnered Freshman All-American, Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, and honorable mention all-conference honors with 1,380 rushing yards and 12 scores on 239 carries (5.8 per attempt). Jefferson also caught 25 passes for 147 yards that season, displaying his competence as a receiver. The following season, an ankle injury stunted his sophomore campaign limiting him to six starts in nine games played as he compiled 142 carries, 685 yards, and eight touchdowns. Jefferson rebounded in 2020, earning first-team All-Pac-12 accolades by ranking fourth in the FBS with 143 rushing yards per game and ninth with 159.5 all-purpose yards per game. He did miss one game due to COVID-19 protocols.

No Reason to Worry for Second Year RBs

After recent free agent signings, some have cooled on running backs entering their 2nd season. Jonathan Tayor, D’Andre Swift, and James Robinson have seen their value dip with the worry of a veteran backup coming in to take some of the workloads. I firmly believe there is nothing to worry about with these three backs, but I wanted to see if the numbers back me up. Here’s what I found.

2021 NFL Draft Preview: Team Needs Picks 6 – 10

This is the second article of the team needs series covering teams picking six through 10. Obviously, free-agency acquisitions will make a major difference as to who teams will draft. These predictions and needs will therefore change as we acquire more information. However, many are of the thinking that it’s better to supplement with free-agency and build through the draft. Teams want to get young assets and have them develop cohesion with the team. Therefore, the draft is often more predictive of a team’s long-term confidence in a player.

Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire: Week 16

This has been by far the most challenging season of sit/start decisions I’ve encountered in my years of fantasy football. If you’ve decided best-ball is your jam for 2021, I fully support you!
