The Arizona Cardinals played a terrific game in Tennessee on Sunday. The defensive unit held Derrick Henry in check and pestered Ryan Tannehill all day long. In total, defenders racked up six sacks, two fumble recoveries, and an interception against a strong offense on the road. Arizona must be considered a strong option at DST after such an excellent performance. Top players include Chandler Jones (see below), Isaiah Simmons, and Budda Baker.

Film vs Analytics is one of the contested debates in the fantasy community. Both are important and one hand washes the other. Scouting and watching film are the foundation of evaluating talent. If data was the only indicator of success, NFL scouts wouldn’t need a scouting department. They would hire a Google Intern to run algorithms for them. On the flip side, data can help you make unbiased decisions and adjust your rankings by having a macro-level view of a pool of statistics. It’s important to understand what coaches look at on the field or in training camp because they decide if a player will even see the field. Not your algorithm. Moreover, learning scouting and theory can help you understand why players perform the way they do and what makes your data sing or choke.

The Panthers have typically been a run-heavy team in years past. This is due to them having Cam Newton and a revolving door at QB. Now that they have a stable passer in Darnold I think they will throw more often. In 2020 they had a pass to rush play ratio of 1.35 which is exactly league average. For 2021 I have them bumping up to a 1.41 ratio. As for their rush-to-pass touchdown ratio they have had a very low one of .85 in 2019 and .84 in 2020. Typically this sort of thing regresses to the league mean of 1.82, and I find it unlikely that we will see this low of a ratio again. So, for 2021 I am giving them a ratio of 1.25. The days of the traditional sleeper are quickly fading with a community full of hard-working analysts and tape grinders who nail down even the least known players before most of the NFL scouts can get their eyes on them. Chuba Hubbard profiles as more of a committee back because he seems to lack pass-catching ability. With this deficiency, his upside is capped a bit. If given the opportunity, he could jump into a 1st and 2nd down role and could be a consistent producer in a zone scheme. He has great patience, uses his blockers well, and has enough finishing speed to score long TDs.

Despite being overshadowed by his college teammate Ja’Marr Chase, Terrace Marshall is an excellent prospect in his own right. He’s got prototypical size and impressive athleticism. He broke out at an early age and demonstrated his ability to dominate an offense. He did fall a little further than expected in the draft, but as a second round, he will be given every opportunity to succeed in the league. I believe Marshall is firmly entrenched as a top-five wide receiver in this class, perhaps even top three. He’s an excellent player to target at the backend of the first round or early second round in Superflex rookie drafts.
