Championship Week Risers and Fallers

By Tyler Justin Karp | January 27, 2021 | Comments Off on Championship Week Risers and Fallers

In this weekly piece, I will bring you some risers and fallers from a dynasty lens. Whether it’s injuries, performance, or value, I want to discuss how players have moved around. Based on the week’s events, I’ll give some advice on how to act on the market’s movement, whether it’s buying, selling, or holding. Even in the playoffs, dynasty values still change weekly. I won’t limit myself to talking about any specific players or teams because I want to have the freedom to discuss whatever is most relevant. Of course, there are more risers and fallers than those I’m listing. With that said, let’s jump into the risers first, followed by the fallers.

The IDP Unseen Series: Part 2

By Michael Romero | January 26, 2021 | Comments Off on The IDP Unseen Series: Part 2

In this series of articles, we discuss some players from each defensive position group that are poised to break out this season. These players should put up a floor of respectable, fantasy starting lineup stat lines with the potential for positional top-15 ceilings. These are players that can be drafted or acquired with minimal draft capital in most full IDP leagues. An examination of the factors promoting these ascending players will take place in each article. Remarkably, there are quite a few players that are among the “IDP unseen,” as of now. Your author began with the defensive line last offseason, and after being tied up in seasonal articles, can now look at the linebacker position before this 2021 season.

Navigating Your Rookie Draft- 2021 Running Backs

Navigating Your Rookie Draft: 2021 Running Backs

By Brad Hartnett | January 26, 2021 | Comments Off on Navigating Your Rookie Draft: 2021 Running Backs

Whether the running back position “matters” in football can be debated, and likely will continue to be debated as analytics become more commonplace, however, it cannot be argued that running backs are ultimately the lifeblood of a fantasy football roster. In this segment, we will be looking at the hit rate of rookie running backs based on the inputs of draft capital, and age. Using DLF’s trade finder tool we will look at the market value of some of the top running backs in the league. For this exercise, to stay uniform with the quarterback segment, we are using values based on superflex leagues.

Navigating Your Rookie Draft: 2021 Wide Receivers

By Brad Hartnett | January 25, 2021 | Comments Off on Navigating Your Rookie Draft: 2021 Wide Receivers

Wide receiver is the position in which analysts have the most different inputs for analyzing prospects. This is because it is by far the hardest position to analyze, whether that be grinding film or navigating through advanced metrics. This is because the college game for wide receivers is so drastically different than how the position is played in the NFL. Wide receivers have less room to operate, they are hit at the line of scrimmage, and they are playing against more skilled and more athletic defenders than they ever have. In this segment, we will be exploring historical hit rates with draft capital and age as the only two components.

I’ve listed the home team first for each game to keep things organized. I won’t waste any more time, so let’s jump straight in!

The End of an Era: Ripple Effects of the Brees and Rivers Retirements

By Michael Romero | January 24, 2021 | Comments Off on The End of an Era: Ripple Effects of the Brees and Rivers Retirements

The close of a tumultuous 2020 football season (and the entire year for that matter) and the subsequent start of 2021 has sparked feelings of optimism for many. Unfortunately, the start of 2021 always saw the end of an era play out, as Drew Brees and Philip Rivers played the final games of their illustrious careers. Many NFL fans have long been spoiled by specific players’ consistent high-quality quarterback play for much of the last two decades. Let’s take a few moments to appreciate what Brees and Rivers have accomplished.

Dominator Rating Darlings: Five Wide Receivers To Take A Chance On

By Lewis Glover | January 23, 2021 | Comments Off on Dominator Rating Darlings: Five Wide Receivers To Take A Chance On

Don’t blink, or you’ll miss it. There are just three games of football remaining in the 2020 NFL season. Before you know it, the NFL draft will have come and gone, and the rookie draft season won’t be far behind. With it, comes the buzz of the incoming class, and roster cutdowns mean some players who have yet to pop, will quickly be forgotten. This article is to remind you about five wideouts who came into the NFL over the past couple of seasons, with strong analytical profiles based on their dominator rating and breakout age.

If you haven’t heard of these metrics before, they are relatively straightforward and intuitive.

Dominator rating is the percentage of a team’s total passing offensive output (yards and touchdowns) for which a wide receiver was responsible. It is preferable to simply looking at the raw output due to vast differences in the circumstances of each wide receiver, such as quarterback play, scheme, and play-calling tendencies. It reflects how a player was able to perform relative to their college teammates. If they can’t outperform their peers, how can they be expected to earn targets on an NFL roster?

Dynasty Running Backs to Sell

By Matthew Bull | January 23, 2021 | Comments Off on Dynasty Running Backs to Sell

Today I’ll be giving you three running backs to sell in this one, from now throughout the offseason. Each RB comes with a different situation and reasoning for getting out now before it is too late. However, I preface this advice with minding the fact that each fantasy league and situation are different. So use […]

Navigating your Rookie Draft: 2021 Quarterbacks

By Brad Hartnett | January 22, 2021 | Comments Off on Navigating your Rookie Draft: 2021 Quarterbacks

There has been a meteoric rise in the number of dynasty leagues that are either starting up as Superflex leagues or transitioning to Superflex leagues, it is the way to go. Now there will always be a nostalgic place for one quarterback leagues for fantasy football players, but devaluing the most important position in football, arguably in all of sports does not hold much value anymore.

Free Agent Focus: Allen Robinson

Free Agent Focus: Allen Robinson

By Lewis Glover | January 20, 2021 | Comments Off on Free Agent Focus: Allen Robinson

It’s been a while since I last wrote an article for DFF. Between work, moving interstate, dealing with the rescheduling of a wedding, and the general hustle and bustle of life, I’ve been short on time over the past few months. Or that is what I have told myself.

It’s very easy to put something off, especially when you know there will be some effort involved, and sometimes you can let the excuses win. But I want to start 2021 right, and it’s time for me to start pulling my weight once again. The amazing team here at DFF has been smashing out content week after week, and I am fired up to get back to contributing regularly.

How COVID-19 Changed Fantasy Football

By Derrick Bordeaux | January 19, 2021 | Comments Off on How COVID-19 Changed Fantasy Football

The 2020 fantasy football season was hands down, one of the most difficult and mentally challenging seasons of all time. As a commissioner of my home leagues, I was not prepared for the start of this season. My intention with this article is to reflect on the season and provide clarity on what to expect heading into 2021.

Using Rhetoric to Win Trades

By Zach Freed | January 18, 2021 | Comments Off on Using Rhetoric to Win Trades

When the off-season hits, that’s when the action picks up in dynasty leagues. You have the end of year statistics to look over, prep to do for the upcoming rookie draft, and most importantly, trade packages to put together. All of this is to put you in the best possible position heading into the next season. For most, trades can be best summed up by a process one of my league mates once explained, “You’ll make an outrageous offer. Then I’ll make an outrageous offer. Eventually, we’ll meet somewhere in the middle.” What if trades didn’t have to be like this though? Sure, every league has that manager that’s going to explain to you why he’s doing you a favor and how he’s losing the trade. He’s just doing a lazy version of what I’m proposing to you in this article. What if we paid attention to our language and used rhetoric, like how we were taught to write persuasive papers in high school, to build trade offers?

NFL Team Deep Dive: Jacksonville Jaguars

By Derrick Bordeaux | January 18, 2021 | Comments Off on NFL Team Deep Dive: Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars fired both HC Doug Marrone and GM Dave Caldwell. Caldwell was the first to be let go. Leading Jacksonville to a mediocre 39-87 record in eight seasons. The Jaguars lost 10 or more games in seven of those seasons. After a franchise-record 10th consecutive loss, team-owner Shad Khan decided to pull the plug on Caldwell. Trent Baalke took over as the interim GM and has a chance to take over as the official GM of the team.

2021 Dynasty Buy/Sell

By Derrick Bordeaux | January 16, 2021 | Comments Off on 2021 Dynasty Buy/Sell

Now that the 2020 fantasy season has ended, it’s time for one of my favorite parts of the year: the dynasty off-season. This is the time to begin to assess your rosters’ strengths/weaknesses, evaluate draft capital, and gather a general game-plan for the next few months. The purpose of this series is to give you an in-depth look at one player I am buying in dynasty, and one player I am selling. This list will change as the NFL Draft and NFL Free Agent period shake out.
