The Rams announced the former Knights wide receiver as a tight end. Jacob Harris has a limited football resume with only three years of experience, two of which came at the University of Central Florida Florida. His measurables evoke Darren Waller, who played wide receiver in Georgia Tech’s triple-option attack before emerging as a tight end with mid-round draft capital in Oakland two years ago.

In a 2021 tight end class that’s proving remarkably shallow, Jacob Harris is an intriguing late-round option in dynasty rookie drafts. He is especially intriguing in those with larger rosters or requiring two starting tight ends. Harris has a safe path to a roster spot in the wake of Gerald Everett’s departure in free agency.

Everett was the first player the Rams selected upon head coach Sean McVay’s arrival, but he never emerged as the seam-splitting target McVay had envisioned. Harris has the traits to become that.

Like any tight end not named Kyle Pitts, Jacob Harris will require patience to pay off for dynasty gamers. The correlation between utility for fantasy and athleticism is stronger at tight end than for most positions. Harris’s upside as a mid-round pick has several noteworthy precedents including not only Waller but also Travis Kelce and Jimmy Graham. Harris’s chances of reaching those heights are small, but they’re not infinitessimal like most big bodies drafted on Day 3.
