2022 DFF Draft Coverage: Kennedy Brooks

Scouts praise Brooks’ love for the game. In all three seasons playing for the Sooners, he topped 1,000 yards rushing every year. In his 37 games played at the collegiate level, Brooks produced 3,320 rushing yards, which lands him ninth all-time in Oklahoma football history. He ended his impressive career as the Alamo Bowl Offensive MVP after scampering for 142 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 attempts.

Devy Breakouts: October 2021

Xavier Worthy is a 6’1” and 160 lbs. burner who was the eighth-rated wide receiver in the 2021 class, and a top-75 player overall. Worthy was originally committed to Michigan, but when Steve Sarkisian accepted the Texas head coaching job he flipped Worthy, who he recruited hard during his time at Alabama. By flipping Worthy’s commitment, Sarkisian made it a point to get instant production from his first hand-picked prospect.

Devy Players of the Week

True freshman Caleb Williams made his first official start and it was nothing short of spectacular. The 6’1″ 218 lbs., 5-Star, #2 QB in the 2021 class, put on a clinic against Texas Christian University, completing 78.3% of his passes, for 295 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 66 yards and another touchdown on the ground. He looked like a seasoned veteran, picking apart the Horned Frogs defense with a Passer Rating of 243.4. There were questions going into the game, on who would take the first snap at QB, Spencer Rattler or Caleb Williams? Is Rattler still on the team? Will Spencer Rattler transfer? Well, I think is now safe to say, Spencer Rattler will not play for Sooners next season, and will only play for them this season if Williams gets hurt.

Jadon Haselwood Logs Hat Trick Against TCU

Sophomore wide receiver Jadon Haselwood shined on Saturday night in Norman as Oklahoma outlasted TCU in a 52-31 shootout. Compiling a team-high six receptions for 56 yards and three touchdowns, Haselwood was involved early and often in Oklahoma’s revitalized offense. Haselwood looked much like the receiver Sooners fans envisioned him becoming and will look to build on this performance as the team enters the home stretch of the regular season.

Devy Players of the Week

Matt Corral is making his case for the best draft-eligible QB this year. Spencer Rattler has played poorly, and Sam Howell isn’t having the same success as years past, leaving the top QB spot in 2022 pretty much wide open. Corral could hear his name called early on April 28, and his value as a Devy and Dynasty asset could soar. We have Matt Corral ranked as the Devy QB7 and the QB3 in the 2022 class, but I see that changing soon. After Corral’s big game on a national stage, it will likely be hard to acquire him via trade unless you are willing to pay up big time. For this reason, I see Corral as a “hold” because I believe his value can only rise from here.

Devy Player Comps: Class of 2022

In this article, I will take you through the top devy options that are eligible for the 2022 NFL Draft. We will look at their listed measurements according to their college programs as well as their projected 40-yard dash times. We will project 40-yard dash times by taking their high school combine testing results and adjusting them based on the expected positional progression as these players progress from being 18-year-old kids to 21-year-old NFL players. We will also use film analysis to tweak these projected times on a player-to-player basis. Finally we will look at players who tested similarly to create a superimposed range of outcomes for these players. Let’s dive in with the top options from the class of 2022.

Desmond Ridder: 2021 Devy Profile

At 6’4” 215 lbs. Desmond Ridder was in the conversation with Mac Jones and Kyle Trask to be the QB5 in the 2021 draft class. However, he opted to return to Cincinnati for his senior season. The former three-star-recruit has come a long way and enters the 2021 season with hopes of making a case for himself as a top-three QB.

Pro Day Round-Up

Today is March 11, 2021, this is important because we are less than a week away from Free Agency. On March 17th we will likely find out where players such as JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kenny Golladay, Aaron Jones, Will Fuller, Curtis Samuel, Corey Davis, Todd Gurley, Marvin Jones Jr., Kenyan Drake, T.Y. Hilton, A.J. Green, and Hunter Henry will land. There are 43 days until the NFL Draft, and in most years we would have the NFL Combine to overreact to, however, as you know the NFL Combine was canceled due to the pandemic. Although we do not get to see all of the relevant players get their testing measurables in the same conditions, we still will get good data from the school’s Pro-Days.

Eric Gray: 2021 Devy Profile

Eric Gray began his career at Tennessee in impressive fashion, sharing the backfield before breaking out late in the season. He finished with 539 rushing yards and 115 receiving yards with 5 total TDs as a true freshman. This past season, he led the Vols with 772 yards and scored four TDs on 157 carries. He tacked on 30 receptions for 254 more yards and two TDs, eclipsing 1000 scrimmage yards. Gray was featured as a player on the rise in your author’s weekly draft stock seasonal article in October.

February DFF Devy Mock Draft: Round 1

We composed a four-person mock draft at DFF to start collecting devy rank data. For some people, a devy-only draft will be coming up soon, while for others the only draft of the season will be a blended rookie and devy draft after the NFL Draft takes place. We will go over how to value devy players versus rookie players later in this offseason, but for now, let’s dive into the devy debates.

Spencer Rattler: 2021 Devy Profile

Spencer Rattler is currently the odds-on favorite to win the 2021 Heisman Trophy. At 6’1”, 205 lbs. he is shorter than the average NFL quarterback, but that isn’t keeping him from being projected at a stop option at the position in 2022. Rattler was the top quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class but was forced to sit his freshman season behind Jalen Hurts.

DFF Devy Top Five Positions: 2022 Quarterbacks

Spencer Rattler was the QB1 and 11th overall prospect coming out of high school. The five-star Arizona native chose to play for Lincoln Riley in Oklahoma. After sitting out for the 2019 season behind Jalen Hurts, Rattler was allowed to start during his redshirt freshman season in 2020. The 6’1” 205 lbs. quarterback is still developing, but we expect to see him drafted early in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Devy Breakout Player of the Week: Week 1

Seven of the 20 games played this weekend resulted in a Vegas underdog victory. On Thursday night, the Miami Hurricanes and transfer quarterback D’Eriq King handled the UAB Blazers. Arkansas State’s two-quarterback system upset Kansas State due to a breakout performance from Jonathan Adams Jr. The upset of the week though was Ragin Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette taking down Brock Purdy and the 23rd ranked Iowa State Cyclones. Purdy, who was seen by many as a potential late first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft threw for only 145 yards and an interception. It is worth noting that Purdy didn’t have his star tight-end Charlie Kolar, but the Cyclones had no answer for the special teams play of the Ragin Cajuns.

Taxi Squad Spring Cleaning: Part 1

In this series of articles, I’ll be taking a look at rookies from the 2019 class that can be removed from your taxi squads to make room for 2020 rookies. These are players that all have little to no dynasty value, but those dynasty owners selected in at least some 2019 rookie drafts. I’ll reference my 2019 rookie rankings from late May to give an idea of where I valued these players. My rankings are for a 1QB, PPR format.
