Marvin Mims | Oklahoma 5’11” 183 lbs. | 03/19/2002 (21)
Marvin Mims was drafted by the Denver Broncos, becoming the eighth Wide Receiver and 63rd overall player in the 2022 NFL Draft.
COLLEGE PRODUCTION
Marvin Mims broke out as a freshman at Oklahoma. In 11 games, he recorded 37 receptions for 610 yards and 9 TDs, good for a 23.8% dominator rating. He was slightly less productive as a sophomore, but in 2022, his junior season, he took a significant leap forward. In 13 games, Mims caught 54 passes for 1,083 yards and six TDs, accounting for 32.7% of Oklahoma’s receiving yards. He had a career-high 2.66 yards per team pass attempt, which ranked fourth-best among all Power 5 WRs in this rookie class.
ATHLETIC TESTING
Small receivers have one job at the combine: run really fast. Luckily, Marvin Mims did just that, recording a 4.38-second forty-yard dash. He was also impressive in the broad jump (10’9”) and vertical jump (39.5”), giving him an impressive 9.40 relative athletic score.

DRAFT ANALYSIS
The Denver Broncos selected Mims with the last pick in the second round, which, silly as it sounds, is great for his chances of success. According to the rookie model of my friend and fellow analyst Chris Miles, second-round WRs since 2014 have “hit” at a 50% rate while third-rounders have “hit” just 28% of the time. In other words, that one-pick difference places Mims in a much more successful cohort of WR prospects.
The Broncos are an interesting landing spot for Mims. The receiving room looks crowded on paper with Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and Greg Dulcich all vying for targets. However, none of those players have truly proven themselves to be elite target earners, so there is room for Mims to cut his own piece of the target pie. It’s possible that Sean Payton envisions him in Brandin Cooks-type role given their size-speed similarities.
FANTASY INSIGHTS
Overall, Marvin Mims has a solid but unspectacular prospect profile, and I’d expect him to be a solid but unspectacular player in the NFL. He is unlikely to be a high-volume player, but he could supply WR2 production in the right situation with efficient QB play.
I have Mims ranked as the WR5 in this rookie class, after Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Jordan Addison, Quentin Johnston, and Zay Flowers. You should consider selecting him in the mid-second round of Superflex rookie drafts and slightly earlier in 1QB formats.
