High Ankle Sprains – The Fantasy Football Death Sentence

I think at this point we are all well aware of how unwanted a high ankle sprain diagnosis is for our fantasy football superstars. No injuries are good injuries when you are competing for fantasy football championships, but high ankle sprains have been a death sentence in recent years. Why? Well to understand why it derailed the fantasy football seasons of Michael Thomas, Raheem Mostert, and Christian McCaffrey in 2020, we need to better understand high ankle sprains.

Life’s Too Short NOT To Play Fantasy Football

For the Heady Mafia and loyal members of the #DFFArmy out there, you can take a break from reading this paraphernalia as it’s not about you. Although, please get ready to forward this to some people in your life. This barely conscious smattering of words on paper…fine, “digital” paper, is for Tom from Accounting, Susan from Human Relations, or my wife 10 years ago. This is for the people who for some strange reason, despite the ease of it, have yet to dip their itsy-bitsy toes into the foray of fantasy football. I am here today, to tell, no, dare say, educate you (ok fine, “brainwash”) why those excuses you keep giving your significant other, family member, or coworker will no longer work in this day and age. So, let’s get down to business and make our way through the bullshit that is your excuse. Bonus, I am even going to give you a type of fantasy football league that would suit you best for this year.

DFF Draft Coverage: Kadarius Toney to the Giants

In four seasons at Florida, Toney compiled 120 receptions for 1,590 yards and 12 touchdowns. Toney also carried the ball 66 times for 580 yards and two touchdowns during his college career. He didn’t see the field a ton during his first three seasons, but he turned into a star his Senior year. He caught 70 passes for 984 yards and 10 touchdowns to go along with 161 rushing yards and another touchdown. He was used strictly as a Wide Receiver his Senior year, whereas he was used as more of a utility player during his first three seasons. His 10 receiving touchdowns placed him tied for seventh in the country amongst Wide Receivers in 2020.

2021 NFL Draft Preview: Team Needs Picks 11 – 15

This is the third article of the team needs series covering teams picking 11 through 15. Obviously, free-agency acquisitions will make a major difference as to who teams will draft. These predictions and needs will therefore change as we acquire more information. However, many are of the thinking that it’s better to supplement with free-agency and build through the draft. Teams want to get young assets and have them develop cohesion with the team. Therefore, the draft is often more predictive of a team’s long-term confidence in a player.

1QB Dynasty Startup First Round: Part 1

With the dynasty offseason in full swing, I wanted to give everyone a quick look into my dynasty startup first-round. I know the top players aren’t usually controversial, but I believe it’s essential to understand why particular players carry such a high dynasty value. Also, I won’t include any 2021 rookie players or picks. I don’t see a Saquon Barkley-type prospect that could crack the first round of startups this year, at least not without a perfect landing spot and draft capital.

Deshaun Watson Trade: Real or Rumor?

I know that everyone’s eyes are on the NFL Playoffs right now. We just capped off an exciting Super Wild Card weekend, and we have three weeks of football left to go. However, even though these playoff games affect dynasty value, there’s no bigger dynasty story right now than a potential Deshaun Watson trade. Let’s jump into the full story!

IDP Wrap Up: Week 13

The New England Patriots took ownership of the Los Angeles Chargers offense on Sunday in LA. New England’s defense shut out Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, et al. in a game where New England’s DST produced three sacks, a blocked kick, two interceptions, and two touchdowns! Adrian Phillips, Adam Butler, and Devin McCourty were excellent IDP plays.

NFC East: Divisional Nuggets

I think the Giants stunned everyone by beating the Seahawks 17-12, remaining in first place in the NFC East. The Giants haven’t had star Saquon Barkley all season due to an ACL tear, and Daniel Jones missed this game with a hamstring injury. Also, Devonta Freeman remains on injured reserve with an ankle injury and is on the COVID-19 reserve list. Luckily, the rest of their offense is currently healthy, and I expect Jones to return in Week 14.

Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire: Week 13

Opportunities to spot emerging talent in time to fuel a playoff run has passed. Week 13 is the final week of the fantasy regular season in many leagues. Playoff berths and seedings are on the line. Fantasy gamers, it’s time to survive and advance. That means spotting production that’s repeatable from one week to the next. This column exists to provide you those leads. Earlier this season, your author committed to providing both proactive and reactive pick-ups in this weekly column. A proactive pick-up is a player with growing snaps counts and improving play that poises him for a break-out. A reactive pick-up is a player who suddenly posted big numbers due to an injury to or benching of a player ahead of him on the depth chart.

Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire: Week 12

Our luck with injuries among fantasy-relevant IDPs could not last. The grim reality of NFL football conspired with the worsening pandemic to thin out the pool of impact players for our lineups. These factors together with a season-low 13 games this past weekend make this a particularly challenging week to mine the waiver wire for quality options for the rest of the season.

Week 12 Streamers

In this streaming article, I will provide you the best weekly options to stream quarterback, tight end, and D/ST. In each section, I’ll break down two streamers in detail, both of which will be under 50% owned, according to ESPN’s ownership percentage at the time of writing. Playing the matchups is a crucial feature of redraft fantasy football, and especially in a crazy 2020 season, active fantasy owners will have a massive advantage.

NFC East: Divisional Nuggets

Every week, I’m going to break down an entire division, focusing on their play on the field that week. Specifically, I’ll go through each team and focus on their dynasty assets, especially anybody who suffered injuries or a massive value change. I won’t look at any player or team in too much detail. This article is more of a summary piece. I also included links to all my previous divisional nuggets articles at the bottom of the page. With that said, let’s jump right in!

Week 7 Thursday Night Storylines

Last week, I wrote a couple of articles breaking down the early and late games on the Week 6 slate. I picked one dynasty storyline from each contest, and I focused on that topic to give my readers something to watch for during the game. I thought it was a fun, light article, but I also believed it provided actionable and exciting information on those games.

Now, I want to take that idea a step further. I’ll give a complete dynasty breakdown of the upcoming Giants-Eagles Thursday night contest. I want to make sure you all know what to focus on for your dynasty teams. Being prepared before the game will allow you to react quickly and to become a better dynasty owner.

Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire: Week 7

The NFL collectively held its breath and put forward a full slate of games less regularly scheduled bye weeks. Setting line-ups was only normally frustrating without several studs on both sides of the ball who were off for Week 6. Those leaving the field with injuries sustained in Week 6 include Steelers’ LB Devin Bush, who is lost for 2020 with a torn ACL, Panthers’ safety Juston Burris, Packers’ safety Darnell Savage, and two Eagles: DT Malik Jackson and safety K’Von Wallace. Sorry, Philly fans, I was not trolling you with the comment about injury regression!

Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire: Week 6

Has there ever been a more difficult week in which to set line-ups for fantasy football? The sheer number of players entering the weekend with a “questionable” injury designation coupled with the threat of game postponements challenged roster depth or triggered a flurry of transactions Sunday morning. Some fantasy gamers and writers assign blame to the uncertainty and question the skill involved in assembling a competitive line-up under such conditions. Your writer feels that gamers who understand the depth of options on the waiver wire and the back end of other teams’ rosters earns an advantage over the competition. The “next man up” came through for huge stat lines in several spots around the league in Week 5. This column aims to assist gamers in pursuit of additions with lasting value. In this season of uncertainty, burning through FAAB to chase points is a cardinal sin.

Against the Spread: NFL Week 5

For the ATS (against the spread) articles, I will provide analysis on three bets that I feel have the best chance at netting you a nice payday. Whether it be due to matchups, injuries, or other factors, these are the three bets I feel the most confident in placing. I will also make predictions on the rest of the week’s spreads. How about a little Thursday night action to get us started?

NFL Player Props: Week 4

In this article, I look at three player props that I feel have a strong chance of paying out. This article will run the gamut and will include bets such as ‘passing yard totals’, ‘first player to score’, and even ‘total tackles’ for those who love defense. In addition, I will also make one “Longshot Pick of the Week”. This pick will always feature a more difficult bet that has a greater than 2:1 payout. The odds may be tougher, but if you’re into some fun player props take a peek!

Against the Spread: NFL Week 4

A great week as we went 2-1 on our in-depth picks and 11-5(!) overall! After some average 9-7 starts this was shot in the arm we were looking for. Our strategy of picking against the Jets continues to work to perfection and (spoiler alert) we’re going to roll with it again this week.  Unfortunately, Biscuits could not keep her hot streak going and fell to 2-1 on the season. No worries though, she told me she already has her next pick locked and loaded!

Against the Spread: NFL Week 3

A perfect 3-0 on our in-depth picks is overshadowed by one of the worst injury days I’ve ever witnessed watching the NFL. While I primarily write on sports betting, I am also an avid fantasy football player. So trust me Barkley and CMC owners, I feel you. This was brutal. Overall we again went 9-7-0 bringing our record to 18-14-0. I suppose a net positive is a good thing but I’m still eager to get that really good week!
