Fantasy point production is not always the best predictor of future fantasy point production. One blown coverage or short touchdown can instantly make a player’s otherwise pedestrian week look great for fantasy. This is where usage trends come in. A player’s usage is a better predictor of what kind of future fantasy production we should expect. You can use this to target Dynasty owners who may be otherwise disenchanted with a low macro fantasy output, while you know the underlying factors are healthy. On the other hand, you can also utilize usage trends to see which players may have a concerning trend relative to their historical valuation that you may want to consider trading.

However you feel about LSU head football coach and controversial enigma Lane Kiffin, one thing remains: the man can put points on the scoreboard. Across his 15-year career as a head coach, Kiffin’s teams have averaged 35.4 points per game, ranking in the top five among active FBS college football head coaches [minimum five seasons coached]. Exclude the numbers from Tennessee and USC; when he ran a slow, methodical, pro-style system, the average jumps to 37.1 PPG. At Florida Atlantic University [FAU], Kiffin began shifting to his version of the veer-and-shoot. Kiffin marries pro-style passing progression, pass protection rules, and tight-end-heavy packages with the up-tempo, spread-the-field, RPO-heavy scheme. Call it a pro-Spread hybrid built on the Veer-and-Shoot architecture. This offense creates space by splitting its wide receivers out to the literal sidelines and numbers, horizontally stretching defenses and making them defend every blade of grass, leaving gaps for the right play call to target and gash. Speedy weapons out wide are essential to executing this. When Kiffin arrived in Baton Rouge for the 2026 season, he completely overhauled the wide receiver room via the transfer portal. Week 1 is FINALLY here, and with two games already in the books, Sunday can’t get here fast enough! The Game of the Week has to be Western Michigan and Michigan. I mean, a last-second (2nd?) Labor Day weekend finally arrived, which typically marks the true beginning of any given college football season. Though the games featured many lopsided matchups, we still had plenty to look at across the devy landscape. The biggest challenge in the early part of the college football season is avoiding overreactions to performances, whether they be over or underwhelming. Though not as long as the NFL’s, the college football season still gives players plenty of time to bounce back in either direction. We have to remember that water always finds its level. Week 1 gave us a lot more to work with. We finally have real usage, real workloads, and enough game action to start figuring out which early roles might actually stick.
This report covers games completed through Sunday. SMU and Florida State play Monday night, so I am leaving that game out rather than trying to make decisions before it is played.
The approach stays the same. Help the campus lineup first. Then look at C2C appreciation, age, and ceiling.
A lot of the biggest Week 1 names are already rostered in the leagues I checked. Nate Sheppard, Jamal Rule, Mason Heintschel, J’Koby Williams, KJ Duff, Faizon Brandon, Jeremiah McClellan, Jaylin Carter, and Jamari Johnson will still be discussed because their Week 1 usage matters. They are not realistic waiver additions, so I am not attaching FAAB bids to them.

My last name is Hammer. I’m not going to pretend this article’s name is an accident. This isn’t a weekly column, because most weeks I won’t have enough to say. I write these when a slate actually lines up – when the numbers, the narratives, the beat reports from practice, the under-the-radar role changes, and the injury report all point in the same direction towards players. Week 1 is one of those weeks. Prices were locked in earlier this summer, and a lot of what we’re betting on now is how guys finished the 2025 season, plus whether camp backed it up. That’s a real edge if you’re paying attention. I’ve got five names this week. They aren’t on the same team, and they don’t have the same role. What they share is that the close of 2025 still looks better than their price, their summer backed up what we saw last year, and Sunday’s matchup gives them a reason to eat. That’s the swing. This is where discipline matters. We want to attack new opportunities before the rest of the league catches up, but we are not emptying the FAAB account because someone had one productive Saturday. Every recommendation assumes a $100 C2C budget. Adjust for your available player pool, scoring, lineup requirements, taxi rules, roster size, and remaining FAAB.

That does not mean we sit around and wait. It means we attack the situations with real information behind them and stay patient everywhere else.
Highly valued C2C assets will be handled differently as well. I will give you the updated news, but I am not assigning generic FAAB bids to players who should already carry significant value in competitive leagues. All bids are based on a $100 FAAB budget.

De’Zhaun Stribling (WR – 49ers)
Did the 49ers just fast-track their rookie wideout for a sizeable role right out of the gate? Sure seems that way. The No. 33 overall selection looked awesome in his first game action, catching seven of eight targets for 63 yards. Stribling played mostly in the slot and consistently moved the chains for the offense. He also showed his contested-catch ability on a deep ball down the sideline, hauling it in with a defender draped all over him. He won in a variety of ways, something you love to see out of a young wideout. With Ricky Pearsall out for the season, Stribling could be featured heavily opposite Mike Evans. At this rate, he will crack the top-100 in Dynasty ranking in no time and could be a weekly WR3/FLEX option in what should be an explosive San Francisco offense.
