Labor Day weekend finally arrived, which typically marks the true beginning of any given college football season. Though the games featured many lopsided matchups, we still had plenty to look at across the devy landscape. The biggest challenge in the early part of the college football season is avoiding overreactions to performances, whether they be over or underwhelming. Though not as long as the NFL’s, the college football season still gives players plenty of time to bounce back in either direction. We have to remember that water always finds its level. In the second installment of The Devy Notebook 2026, I will examine what I saw during week one of the college football season and let you know whether to buy into a player or if you should hold the line and wait to see how things play out in the coming weeks.
