To start, I’ve determined that Gardner Minshew is good at football. He completed 95% of his passes in Week 1, and he’s thrown for 3 TDs in back-to-back games. Now he’s up against a Dolphins defense that just allowed Josh Allen to throw for over 400 yards and 4 TDs. Roll out Minshew as a QB1 this week.

The DFF team recently completed our annual DFF Redraft Championship draft and I was fortunate enough to be granted the first overall pick! We set up a 17-round PPR draft, with 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 2 Flex, 1 TE, 1 D/ST as starters, and a 7-player bench. This was especially fun because it was the first year we implemented a zoom video conference during the draft and had live commentary on each and every selection. The Dynasty Football Factory gathered once more to partake in a 12-team redraft league mock draft! But this time, we shook things up. We went with tight end premium scoring, as well as 0.25 points per carry. The tight end premium doesn’t raise the value of all tight ends, but it does create an even larger gap between the top and the rest. The point per carry adds a little bit more value to your bell-cow running backs. The biggest change? Third-Round Reversal.

Darius Slayton was drafted by the New York Giants with a conditional fifth-round pick in 2019. After missing the first two games with a hamstring injury, he started exceeding expectations. Over the next 14 games, Slayton started establishing a noticeable rapport with fellow rookie Daniel Jones as he led NY in receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, yards per catch, and receiving first downs. It’s rare for a day-three pick to turn out and even rarer for one to turn in such an impressive rookie season. Slayton even finished second on the team in both catches and targets, trailing Golden Tate by one in each category. Now, I want to jump into Sterling Shepard. I wrote a redraft breakdown about Shepard and the rest of the Giants in May as my first piece in that 32-part series. Outside of star running back Saquon Barkley, the Giants have four secondary offensive options in Darius Slayton, Evan Engram, Golden Tate, and Shepard. Back then, I recommended fading Shepard and saw Golden Tate as the best sleeper in the Giants offense. However, at this point, I’ve come around to Shepard as the best overall option at cost. Before 2019, Matthew Stafford appeared in every game for the Detroit Lions for eight consecutive seasons. In those seasons, Stafford averaged 4,465 yards and 27.5 TDs. The Lions finished 2nd, 1st, 5th, 10th, 5th, 10th, 10th, and 13th in pass attempts during that span. Stafford was playing some of his best football in 2019 under current OC Darrell Bevell, albeit in a partial season. Through eight games, Stafford was on pace to finish as the fantasy QB2 with 4,998 yards, 38 TDs, and 10 INTs.

Speaking of quarterbacks that you can get off of waivers unless somebody in your league did this already, we have Nick Foles. Normally, I wouldn’t touch good ol’ St. Nick in fantasy. However, he plays the Raiders and the Falcons during fantasy playoffs, which will make virtually anybody a potential starter. The Raiders and Falcons are two of the teams that allow the most fantasy points to quarterbacks. That’s not good unless you’re starting a quarterback that plays against them, which you can do in back-to-back weeks with Foles in the fantasy playoffs.

Terry McLaurin still proves to be the only wide receiver in Washington that you can put in your lineup with any confidence. He lit up the Dolphins for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only 4 receptions (seven targets). The rain put a damper on his game against San Francisco, where Washington was held scoreless. The Vikings are a middle of the road pass defense while the Bills are a top-five, so you may need to temper expectations. The Redskins should be playing from behind in both games, so McLaurin should have value since they will be needing to throw often.

Stafford is clearly the priority streamer this week, playing at home against Kansas City. In this matchup, I expect the Chiefs to put up points against the Lions’ defense, forcing Stafford to throw the ball throughout the contest. While Stafford’s passing yards have decreased from week one through week three, he has faced the Chargers tough defense in week two followed by a tough matchup at the Eagles. Even though the Chiefs held both Lamar Jackson in week three and Derek Carr in week two to reasonable scoring outputs, I still believe the Chiefs’ defense can be beaten through the air. Therefore, I would be comfortable starting Stafford as a back-end QB1 in this game.
