Dynasty Best Ball: Pros and Cons

As fantasy football has grown, so have the ways it can be played. For most people, the only option when they first started was your standard ten-team redraft league. Then you discover the keeper league, where you keep one or more players from your previous season’s team to your next season’s team. Then, if you are lucky, you discover the world of Dynasty, which begins to bring exponentially new challenges. You have Devy leagues, IDP, Superflex, Campus to Canton, Vampire leagues, Guillotine leagues, Empire leagues… The list goes on and on.

Positional Hot Spots in Pre-Draft Best Ball

At this time of year, the NFL Fantasy Football space is dominated by Dynasty content. Everybody is talking about free agency, The Combine, and NFL Mock Drafts while Redraft season is a million miles away. Don’t get me wrong, I love rookie hype and lopsided trade offers as much as the next guy, but I also love to draft. And I assume you feel the same way; otherwise, you wouldn’t have clicked on this article. In my opinion, the best way to scratch that itch is with pre-draft Best Ball.

The 2021 Definitive DFF BestBall League Guide

As with any league, the context is everything. Your author shares this brief disclaimer as both a reminder for your own best interest as an owner and as a primer to start this article. There are many important questions you need to know the answer to in order to correctly utilize actionable advice. Is the league redraft or dynasty? Are there 10 owners, 12 owners, 14 owners, 16 owners, or is it a multi-copy league? How many roster spots are there? Is it SuperFlex or TE premium or tiered PPR? Is it an IDP league? How many starters are in the lineup? Is the draft third-round reversal? Do you have taxi squads? Each of these questions plays a vital role in analysis within the realm of fantasy football. Before you boldly and blindly follow advice from a website or analyst, make certain you know the context with which the advice is shared.

2021 Projections: Baltimore Ravens

In this coming series, I will be diving into each NFL team and putting forth my predictions on what I think they will do in the 2021 season. I think having a set of reasonable or expected projections can help us during our drafts. They can help differentiate between closely ranked players, not only by comparing floor but also by comparing potential upside. I will be showing a set of realistic or expected projections and telling you if I think anyone is being under or overvalued in best ball/redraft drafts right now. These can also be used in a dynasty mindset, especially if you are a contending team. But, even if you are in a rebuild these projections could outline a young, cheap player who may get more work than a lot of people think. Let’s dig in.

Life’s Too Short NOT To Play Fantasy Football

For the Heady Mafia and loyal members of the #DFFArmy out there, you can take a break from reading this paraphernalia as it’s not about you. Although, please get ready to forward this to some people in your life. This barely conscious smattering of words on paper…fine, “digital” paper, is for Tom from Accounting, Susan from Human Relations, or my wife 10 years ago. This is for the people who for some strange reason, despite the ease of it, have yet to dip their itsy-bitsy toes into the foray of fantasy football. I am here today, to tell, no, dare say, educate you (ok fine, “brainwash”) why those excuses you keep giving your significant other, family member, or coworker will no longer work in this day and age. So, let’s get down to business and make our way through the bullshit that is your excuse. Bonus, I am even going to give you a type of fantasy football league that would suit you best for this year.

Best Ball Newbie Perspective: Part 1

Fantasy football without the grind of setting a bunch of lineups? That has to be the dream. This past offseason I decided to try some paid best ball contests to see if I could make myself a more well-rounded fantasy player. At DFF, we believe that every aspect of fantasy football bleeds into the others, and thus, I had my motivation to jump in. Plus…it certainly didn’t hurt that drafting is an addiction. Being new to the format, I decided to track all the data I possibly could on my performance/selections. This way, I could maybe help or inspire others who may be new to the format in the future.

An Introduction to Best-Ball Basics

For years the downside to being a draft-aholic was realizing a few weeks into the season that the time and energy associated with setting a few dozen fantasy football lineups every week takes a lot of the fun out of the game. But between the ever-popular BB10s at NFFC, DRAFT once again offering a multi-million dollar best-ball tournament, and countless other best-ball options available out there, the popularity of this particular format continues to increase steadily. With the opening of NFL training camps this past week, fantasy football season is about to get into full swing. It’s likely those of us who play in dynasty leagues probably knocked out our rookie drafts months ago. But most redraft and keeper formats often don’t tee up their draft day until mid-August at the earliest. This means that despite the non-stop stream of NFL news and fantasy implications we diehards are eating up on an hourly basis, we’re actually in a bit of an activity lull right now. This period is the perfect time of year to start pulling the trigger on best-ball drafts, particularly if, like me, you love to draft fantasy football teams.
