2nd Year Breakout Wide Receivers: Part 1

The consensus used to be that it took wide receivers three years to breakout into fantasy relevance. But, the NFL is turning more pass-happy and players are being utilized in various ways. So, it isn’t out of the question that there are a few second-year breakouts that can boost production for your dynasty team. Similar to last year, if your teams had Courtland Sutton, D.J. Chark, or D.J. Moore on your roster before the start of the season, you more than likely felt comfortable with your team’s outlook. In this 3-part series of articles, I’ll look at six wide receivers that need to be considered.  If you didn’t draft some of these second-year wideouts, it’ll be almost impossible for you to acquire them going forward. But, if you’re given the chance, don’t be afraid to overpay.

Terry McLaurin Dynasty

Terry McLaurin: 2020 Dynasty Profile

It only took one game for Washington to know they made the right decision drafting Terry McLaurin 76th overall in 2019. He burst onto the scene to the tune of five catches for 125 yards and one touchdown. There were the usual ups and downs of a rookie season, but out of 14 games played, McLaurin finished with eight double-digit fantasy games landing at WR24 in standard and WR29 in PPR.

The IDP Unseen Series: Part 1

In this series of articles, we discuss some players from each defensive position group that are poised to break out this season. These players should put up a floor of respectable, fantasy starting lineup stat lines with the potential for positional top-15 ceilings. These are players that can be drafted or acquired with minimal draft capital in most full IDP leagues. An examination of the factors promoting these ascending players will take place in each article. Remarkably, there are quite a few players that are among the “IDP unseen,” as of now. We will start with the defensive line.

DFF Rookie Round Table, Part 10: Final Thoughts

We debated the rankings on Jalen Reagor, Henry Ruggs, Tee Higgins, Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, AJ Dillon, Bryan Edwards, Antonio Gandy-Golden, Zack Moss, and Joshua Kelley. We also touched upon players in their range, and who should be ascending or descending. I want to give a big thanks to everyone who contributed to this series of articles. I urge you to go follow them on twitter.  Read the whole series for a number of opinions on players who could win you fantasy championships for years to come. This is the final part of the series, where we’ll look at more insights and tidbits about these rookies.

High Upside Late-Round Redraft Targets

In the late rounds of redraft leagues, I’m always hunting for upside. There’s no point in playing it safe and taking boring contributors that provide no opportunity to make a difference or to be league-winners. These four players are an example of what I’m talking about, one at each position. I’m not saying that any of these players will hit, and I would bet against some of them doing so. However, they all have high-end potential. If I’m wrong about one of them, I can cut them after a week or two with little to no harm.

DFF Rookie Round Table, Part 7: Antonio Gandy-Golden

After recently releasing my rookie rankings, I wanted to open up the floor to constructive criticism.  I also wanted to see where I was not aligned with other DFF analysts. So, we conducted a round table discussion. This discussion is now a 10-part series of informal articles. In these articles, analysts debate why some of their favorite rookie(s) should be moved up. And in one case, moved down!

David Njoku: A Goliath Rebirth?

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns via his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The veteran sports agent and notorious bare-knuckles negotiator has almost certainly taken public a request made to the team shortly after another former first-rounder from the same position, Hayden Hurst demanded a trade from the Ravens to the Falcons earlier this year. Poetically and characteristically, Rosenhaus aired his demand for his client’s freedom from the league’s most unstable franchise on the eve of Independence Day. Timing is also of the essence because training camps open in a mere three weeks’ time.

Superflex Dynasty Backup QBs: Tier 3

In this series, I’m looking at the backup quarterback landscape with a focus on dynasty superflex formats. In those leagues, having a starting quarterback is extremely valuable, and backups are one step away. Therefore, depending on league size, anywhere from a few to all the backup quarterbacks in the league are rostered. Keep in mind that these backups are the backup in dynasty value, not necessarily the backup on the NFL depth chart.

2020 Enticing IDP Strength of Schedules

In this series, we analyze the IDP strength-of-schedule for the 2020 NFL season. In IDP fantasy football, opportunity correlates to production, so today we’ll focus on pace-of-play / plays-per-game that a few lucky defenses will face (based on 2019 data). Let’s take a look at the defenses and IDP defenders who could benefit from their schedule.

The Derrius Guice Debate: Comeback

@DFF_Karp and I are breaking down the Derrius Guice debate for 2020 redraft formats. I’ll be giving you information as to why I believe Guice is a great “bang-for-the-buck” running back to target in your redraft leagues. Meanwhile, @DFF_Karp will be telling you why he will not be drafting Derrius Guice at his current average

The Derrius Guice Debate: Bust

While I don’t like to call any player “injury-prone,” Guice has been through countless injuries in just two years in the NFL. He’s hurt his ACL, hamstring, meniscus, and MCL so far and cannot seem to stay on the field. In general, I prefer to avoid these types of players; I require them to prove they can stay healthy before I take a chance on them. Unlike other players returning, Guice has never played a long stretch of healthy games in the NFL, so I have no template for what a healthy Guice would be.

Worst Landing Spots: QB 2020 NFL Draft

The quarterback position is somewhat similar to tight ends in that you’re usually fine with any landing spot affording you a shot at a legitimate and immediately productive fantasy asset. Drafting a starting quarterback is great but ask the Dwayne Haskins or Sam Darnold owners how they feel about it so far. Some teams are not equipped to support or develop a high-level quarterback. These are those organizations.

Worst Landing Spots: WR 2020 NFL Draft

The Bears were the epitome of average in 2019, finishing the season a mediocre 8-8. They had a lot of issues but wide receivers weren’t one of them., As a matter of fact, their issues were more so on the quarterback. Mitch Trubisky is not very good, but his receivers are. Chicago already has plenty of talented young pass-catchers in Allen Robinson and Anthony Miller, and adequate receivers in Taylor Gabriel and Javon Wims.

Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio Take Over Washington: Redskins IDP Fantasy Impact

The NFL news of the New Year is the arrival of former Panthers’ Head Coach Ron Rivera in Washington. He’ll take the same position for the Redskins and has hired former Raiders’ and Jaguars’ Head Coach Jack Del Rio with him to coordinate the defense. IDP Fantasy Twitter is downright giddy that another franchise will

In the Scope: Week 15 Targets, “All-In the Scope Team” Announced

With most competitive redraft fantasy leagues ending next week, this week our “In the Scope” targets will be back-end players who should still be out there available for nothing, that you could play in Week 16 – whether you’re vying for a title or just trying not to get last. Also, as this will be our final “In the Scope” column of the season, I’d like to introduce the 2019 “All-In the Scope Team.” This is a roster filled entirely with players we have mentioned in this column before they were priority adds.
