Redraft: Week 7 Buy/Sell

Hello, fellow fantasy managers. My name is Matt Ward, and I will be substituting for the Draft Director, Chris Miles, in this week’s edition of Redraft: Buy/Sell. Chris begins every Buy/Sell article with a personal disclaimer that I felt would be pertinent to quote.

“If someone’s value is too high, I might tell you to sell or if I think their value will decrease soon, he could also be a sell. I will give my reasoning for why each player falls in a certain category. I will attempt to have the format consistently be a buy and sell for each position, but that may increase or decrease depending on the week. I do not want to put a QB or TE on my list just to fill the space if they do not truly deserve it. So, you can trust that all of the players I will talk about are relevant.”

I want to add to that by saying I would never advise a reader to make a move I would not personally make myself. My intentions will always be to provide actionable reasoning behind my evaluations. Now let’s make some trades.

DFF Redraft League: Drafting from the Ten Spot

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of drafting against a number of my colleagues for our 14-team staff league, cleverly named the “DFF Redraft Championship.” The draft was a ton of fun, and I can already tell the competition is going to be stiff. For some additional context, our starting lineups consist of 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 3 W/R/T, 1 K, and 1 DEF. Passing TDs are worth 6 points, while rushing and receiving first downs are worth 0.5 points. There is also a 0.1 point per carry bonus and a 0.5 TE reception bonus.  In this article, I’ll be breaking down the thought process behind each of my picks.

The Redraft Wire: Week 5

This weekly article is focused on identifying players who are owned in less than 40% of redraft leagues. These players are going to help your team win this week and every week to come! We are looking for guys you should be able to plug into your starting lineup without hesitation.

This one is mainly for the SuperFlex and 2QB leagues but Andy Dalton may even be relevant in your single QB leagues. Dak Prescott suffered a gruesome ankle injury, ending his promising season. Dalton wasn’t bad, completing nine of eleven attempts after Prescott went out. He has every weapon he could ask for as a backup quarterback in the NFL and should produce well in Dak’s place.

Is Josh Allen the next Mitch Trubisky?

Is it possible that the Bills are coming off another playoff appearance (maybe even a win?) and Josh Allen has made real strides as an NFL passer? Sure. But it’s just as possible that Allen stagnates and costs the team wins. It’s possible that the Bills see their championship window slowly starting to close and decide that Josh Allen is holding them back. Do they decline his fifth-year option and bring in a veteran QB who can manage the game and let the defense win games? It’s possible. In other words, it’s possible that Josh Allen is the next Mitch Trubisky.

The Anti-Baker Take

In this debate series, @DFF_Ztrain and I have broken down two different players so far, Derrius Guice and JuJu Smith-Schuster. You can find links at the bottom of this article if you want to read our previous work. Now, let’s jump into Baker Mayfield. I get the negative side this time, as I don’t love Mayfield or his situation in 2020. Here come the knives.

The Pro-Baker Take

This is the third installment of our redraft value debates where @DFF_Karp and I go through some fantasy players that we feel differently about. This article will go into depth on Baker Mayfield, I’ll be telling you why he is a top 10 option at the position while @DFF_Karp will be taking the anti-Baker approach.

2019 Redraft Strategy Review: Early vs Late QB

Of the three strategy debates, this is the one where I have by far the strongest opinion. Given that I wrote a weekly streamers article for DFF, it should come as no surprise that I am one of the biggest advocates for a late-round quarterback approach. As an important note, I will be completely excluding Andrew Luck from this study, as he retired before a majority of fantasy drafts. Therefore, the top five quarterbacks drafted were Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Aaron Rodgers, Baker Mayfield, and Matt Ryan. Let’s look at these players in table form to illustrate how they performed in 2019.

Quarterback Strength of Schedule Through the Playoffs

While you’ve gotten your team this far, I like to think of the playoffs as an entirely different game. Every team going into playoffs is starting with a clean slate. Let’s take a close look at the matchups your QBs are going up against and what to expect. Take advantage of the time you have now to plan ahead for your weekly playoff matchups.
