The Wire: Week 14

Man, has Derek Carr been beaten up this year or what? Carr exited the Saints’ Week 13 matchup early with several injury concerns, including his shoulder, back, and head. Carr is now in concussion protocol for the second time in three games, so he will likely be sitting out the game against Carolina next week. Enter Jameis Winston, who has been quite underwhelming in his few relief appearances this year, but still, he’s a live arm with a decent fantasy ceiling.

Dynasty Market Sweep: Veteran WR Evaluation

Welcome to the Dynasty Market Sweep, a weekly recurring offseason article focusing on substantial value disparities in the dynasty market consensus. The very nature of the instantaneous fantasy news feed has made the dynasty market more reactionary and volatile than ever before. Once the proverbial petrol is poured, and Twitter fingers snap to ignite, player values can burn to the ground overnight. Value changes of this nature cause a ripple effect across the market. For every step up the ladder, someone must move down and vice versa.

Sam Howell-UNC

Sam Howell: 2021 Devy Profile

At the time of writing, betting odds place Sam Howell as one of the top five players most likely to win the 2022 Heisman Trophy. With the departure of teammates Javonte Williams, Michael Carter, and Dyami Brown, the Tarheel offense faces an uphill battle. If Howell is able to put up similar numbers after losing several heavy hitters to the NFL, it will set a lot of people at ease that it was talent and not merely the situation that led to Howell’s success.

Week 16 Streamers

This is my final real week of streaming coverage. I’ve loved bringing you this article each week for two straight seasons, and it’s sad that the 2020 version will end soon. I’ll probably throw something together for Week 17 as bonus coverage, but we should all move to Week 16 championships. Deciding your fantasy title in Week 17 is silly. With that said, let’s jump into the streamers!

Week 15 Streamers

Remember my looking ahead to Week 15 article? If you scroll to the bottom, I begged you to pick up Jalen Hurts in advance of Week 15. I didn’t think he would be a fantasy star against the Saints, and I even made a charity bet that he wouldn’t be a top-12 quarterback. Well, I was wrong. Hurts currently sits as the QB8 for the week with only two quarterbacks to go, meaning that he will definitely be a QB1 in Week 14. Hurts completed 17/30 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown while losing a fumble. However, he dominated on the ground, taking 18 carries for 106 yards.

Looking Ahead to Week 14

At this point, we’re looking ahead to the fantasy playoffs in most leagues. For this column, I will assume that you need these players to win in Week 14 specifically. However, I might mention Week 15 or 16 matchups if relevant. Also, I hope you don’t play fantasy football in Week 17, and I won’t worry about that week whatsoever. I won’t limit myself to any specific number of players or force myself to choose specific positions, outside of a few exceptions. Each week, I’ll provide one look ahead streamer at quarterback and D/ST, as those positions are easy to predict every week. Quarterback streaming mostly comes from the opposing defense and D/ST from the opposing offense, and we know those schedules ahead of time.

I’ve listed the players in the order I would add them to my roster. Let’s jump right in!

Start/Sit Week 13

Each and every week, I’ll be covering a handful of players that I believe will either exceed expectations or let your team down in a major way. Here’s who you should be looking at for Week 13.

It feels wrong, but Mitchell Trubisky is a perfectly fine streamer this week. Trubisky put up solid numbers in the team’s loss to Green Bay, and he should be a solid QB2 against the Lions in Week 13. Detroit is allowing the 7th most fantasy points and passing yards per game.

Tarik Cohen Extension and the Bears’ Future

Surprisingly, the Bears signed Tarik Cohen to a 3-year extension that grants him $17.25 million in new money. The Bears fully guaranteed Cohen $9.5 million with a possibility of $2.5 million in additional guarantees. Cohen’s deal looks similar to the contract that the Browns gave their backup/third-down back Kareem Hunt, although Hunt’s average annual salary is slightly higher.

Dynasty Sleeper of the Week: Javon Wims

With week one in the books, I am back to give you another player to keep in mind for your dynasty roster. This is not a waiver column. Each week I will try and bring you names off the beaten track that you can put on the end of your bench or just keep an eye on. Last week’s choice was Jakobi Meyers and while he went catch-less last week. The Patriots offense will continue to grow. Keep him on the watch list. This week I bring you another wide receiver no one is talking about and that is Javon Wims.

Is Josh Allen the next Mitch Trubisky?

Is it possible that the Bills are coming off another playoff appearance (maybe even a win?) and Josh Allen has made real strides as an NFL passer? Sure. But it’s just as possible that Allen stagnates and costs the team wins. It’s possible that the Bills see their championship window slowly starting to close and decide that Josh Allen is holding them back. Do they decline his fifth-year option and bring in a veteran QB who can manage the game and let the defense win games? It’s possible. In other words, it’s possible that Josh Allen is the next Mitch Trubisky.

Foles to Chicago: The Meaning for Mitch, Minshew and Franchises

This piece will cover the dynasty impact of the recent trade of Nick Foles from the Jaguars to the Bears. Let’s jump right in.    The Trade After deciding to go forward with Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback, the Jaguars were looking to trade former starter Nick Foles. NFC North Factory Divisional Nuggets: Week 13

Every week this series will attempt to bring clarity to the goings-on, both on and off the field within each NFL Division so that dynasty owners can make championship level decisions based on our actionable information. Our writers will be digging through data and film for inference on coach/front office decision making so that they can keep you equipped with the “nuggets” you need to succeed. Many trade deadlines and such have passed, so this week I intend to focus on notable role changes for each team’s player.

Stop Undervaluing Mitchell Trubisky in Dynasty

From everything I gather on Twitter, dynasty podcasts or articles around the dynasty community, Mitchell Trubisky is an afterthought. When he is the subject of analysis, he’s often compared to Blake Bortles. His career arc is defined as another early first-round quarterback with high bust potential, that the hapless franchise (the Chicago Bears, in this case) shot themselves in the foot by reaching on. The enthusiasm for owning “The Biscuit” has waned to the point that he’s more often a fantasy punchline than a guy your league mates ooh and ahh over when they see his name come across your draft board. This lack of enthusiasm and the reasonably easy case I’m about to lay out are the reasons you should be buying him as a value quarterback in all dynasty formats. This is especially true in superflex and two quarterback leagues. This case shouldn’t need to be made for a 24-year-old quarterback coming off his first full season starting in which he earned himself a Pro Bowl bid, posted a 95 QB rating and finished among the league leaders in rushing from the position in only 14 games. But here we are nonetheless. Let’s dive in.
