Will’s Sell: Leonard Fournette
What a week for Fournette. He was cut by the Jaguars, cleared waivers, and then picked up by Tampa Bay. He went from a rock-solid workload in Jacksonville to… a big ol’ question mark. Bruce Arians is already saying that Ronald Jones is still the starting running back, but you never know. This could easily be Fournette’s job sooner rather than later. That’s the argument you should be making when trying to offload Fournette. There’s a chance that he becomes the workhorse in Tampa. But, right now the entire Bucs backfield is something I want no part of. Too many options, not enough answers. If you had your draft in the time between his release and his signing, you probably could have snagged him in round seven. I’d still rather have D’Andre Swift, Kareem Hunt, even David Montgomery. Convince someone that Fournette will take the lead in Tampa and I’m sure you could have any one of them.
Will’s Buy: Alvin Kamara
Your window may have already closed, with Kamara already back at practice in New Orleans. But if you want a piece of him, see if the Kamara owner is getting skittish. Many fantasy players are risk-averse in the first round, so any potential negatives could scare them off. The Saints are smart when it comes to contract and cap issues and they know they need Kamara to win it all in what could be the final year for Drew Brees. I think they get something done here. I’m still taking Kamara over any running back not named Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, or Ezekiel Elliott. If you have a running back that you picked closer to the turn, offer him up for Kamara. I’d even add whoever you took in the seventh or eighth to that and still like the value. I think Kamara should be his usual excellent self this year.
Will’s Sell: Antonio Gibson
As soon as Adrian Peterson was released by Washington, Antonio Gibson became the biggest sell in redraft. Now don’t get me wrong, I like Gibson. He’s a physical freak with all the potential in the world. His draft capital, physical profile, and his place in an ambiguous backfield made him a perfect late-round dart throw. That’s still how I view him, as a guy who could pop but has no guarantees. Many in the fantasy community disagree with me. Some are penciling him as a surefire RB2. I’m willing to admit that’s within his range of outcomes, but I’m not projecting a guy who had 33 total carries in college to immediately step in and be a workhorse. Add to that the fact that Washington projects to be one of the worst teams in football this year, and you get a guy who could have a limited ceiling even if he is the best RB on the team. If you had your draft before this news, Gibson was probably going in the last few rounds (or undrafted in one of my leagues). Turning that kind of draft capital into a low RB2 or solid flex is a smart play. You could even bundle Gibson with your current flex in return for an even better player. That’s free money. Sell the hype!
Zach’s Buy: Jamison Crowder
I’m certain people are sick of me talking about Jamison Crowder. But, he is almost guaranteed to beat his ADP. Crowder had 122 targets last season and when he plays at least 10 games he finishes at worst as a WR3. The Jets haven’t done much to bring in competition for Crowder, who should still see a ton of work as Sam Darnold’s safety blanket out of the slot. This is not a player that will elicit oohs and ahhs. But, he can be a high volume, high ceiling, high floor player for you, especially in PPR leagues.
Zach’s Sell: Aaron Jones
This pains me as a Packers fan. Aaron Jones finished 2019 as RB2 on the season after an absurd 19 touchdown performance. Green Bay appears to be continuing to double down on a run-heavy approach after drafting AJ Dillon and Josiah Deguara in rounds 2 and 3 in the NFL Draft. There has been recent news indicating that the Packers are hoping to lock up Aaron Jones to a second contract. If Matt LaFleur spent his 2nd round pick on AJ Dillon, you can bet he wants to play him and prove to the higher-ups that he knows what he is doing. Dillon will be playing a substantial role over the next few seasons, and if Jones gets extended I think we see closer to a 60-40 split over the next few years. Now may be your last opportunity to sell Aaron Jones and net the return of his monster 2019 season.
Zach’s Buy: Anthony Miller
No one really likes the WR2 for the Bears. There hasn’t been a truly useful fantasy WR2 for Chicago since they were using leather helmets! Actually, their last truly useful WR1/2 combo was back in 2013 with Alshon Jeffrey and Brandon Marshall. It is tough to count on that position. However, Anthony Miller may be primed for a breakout. Miller was insanely productive during his time in college with Memphis and has put together two decent seasons thus far. If you can try to snag Anthony Miller now that Mitch Trubisky has been named the starter you may be able to get a discount. I don’t believe Trubisky remains the starter all season and odds are the Bears won’t be an elite team this season. I fully anticipate the Bears grabbing a quarterback either in the draft or free agency next offseason, which would give Miller an instant upgrade. You can get Miller relatively cheap and it may be worth trying to capitalize on that elusive 3rd-year breakout.
