Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire: Week 5

“Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire” is written for fantasy football gamers in leagues that require a full complement of 11 defensive starters in leagues of 12 to 16 teams. We rely on scoring settings from FantasyPros.com, even though their value for passes defensed is a bit low. We’ll look for options at both conventional and true defensive positions as they arise. Players qualifying for this column are those rostered in no more than a third of IDP leagues on MyFantasyLeague.com (MFL). These recommendations further assume you, the manager, have finite roster space with challenging cut decisions to add new names.

IDP Crystal Ball: Week 4

In this weekly article, we will take a look at a couple of IDP players available in many leagues that appear to show promise or have a foreseeable path to time on the field and production. The hope is that you can acquire these players for free or relatively close to free. It depends on the depth and settings of each individual league. Qualifying players are those available in at least two-thirds of full IDP leagues on MyFantasyLeague.com (MFL).

Is Mike Strachan the Next Division 2 NFL Star?

Division 2 players seldomly make an NFL roster. It is even rarer for them to make an impact in the league. Currently, there are four proven receivers in the NFL right now that are products of a D2 school. Tyreek Hill, Adam Thielen, Tyrell Williams, and John Brown have all proven valuable fantasy assets. Mike Strachan may just be next in line.

DFF Draft Coverage: Tarik Black to the Colts

Tarik Black put together a rather disappointing college career. He came into the NCAA with a lot of hype given the fact that he was a 4-star recruit who committed to Michigan University over teams like Alabama, Notre Dame, Auburn, and others. After playing for Michigan for three seasons, Black decided to transfer to Texas University. He had a much larger role for the Longhorns, but he only played in six games during his lone season with the team. Although his college numbers don’t look enticing, he has the skillset to become a complete receiver in the NFL.

Fantasy Outlook: Colts Wide Receivers

Last week, the Indianapolis Colts decided to bring back wide receiver T.Y. Hilton on a one-year deal worth up to $10M. The 31-year-old veteran receiver is taking less money to stay in Indianapolis (Ravens offered a multi-year deal). He should serve as one of the top receiving options for his new quarterback, Carson Wentz. Hilton will rejoin a wide receiver room that also includes: Michael Pittman Jr., Parris Campbell, and Zach Pascal. Below, I will be digging deeper into each receiver’s fantasy outlook for the 2021 season.

No Reason to Worry for Second Year RBs

After recent free agent signings, some have cooled on running backs entering their 2nd season. Jonathan Tayor, D’Andre Swift, and James Robinson have seen their value dip with the worry of a veteran backup coming in to take some of the workloads. I firmly believe there is nothing to worry about with these three backs, but I wanted to see if the numbers back me up. Here’s what I found.

Best Fantasy Destinations for Will Fuller

As the start of NFL free agency inches closer, now is an excellent time to explore some landing spots that could boost Will Fuller’s outlook. The speedy wideout will be entering his sixth season and is coming off a year cut short due to a six-game PED suspension after Week 12. Fuller was on pace for a monster season, posting career-highs in receptions, yards, and TDs to the tune of 53/879/8 in 11 games played. He was the WR8 in PPR scoring during that stretch. The suspension came at a crucial time in the fantasy season as those who owned him had to find a way to replace that production heading into the fantasy playoffs.

Dynasty: Restricted Free Agents

Last year I looked into the Restricted Free Agent (RFA) market in search of sleepers we may be able to dig up. Unfortunately, it wasn’t that exciting. The likes of Kendrick Bourne, Isaiah McKenzie, David Moore, and others ended up resigning and had limited impact throughout the year. The best of that group last year was Keelan Cole who ended up with 55/642/5. We as dynasty owners are always trying to find value or that next guy that could take a leap. The free-agent class this season is much deeper and more exciting. However, for fantasy, we are always looking for that throw-in piece into a trade or a player forgotten as an afterthought. I am hoping to give you some names to grab before the beginning of free agency to acquire cheaply or for nothing at all.

Wentz There’s a Will There’s a Way

Carson Wentz’s career has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Wentz was initially drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles with the second overall pick in the 2016 draft and caught fire almost instantly. In his first year, he set multiple NFL and Eagles’ rookie records and in his second year led the Eagles to an 11-2 record catapulting him into a front runner for league MVP before suffering a torn ACL, ending his season.

1QB Dynasty Startup First Round: Part 1

With the dynasty offseason in full swing, I wanted to give everyone a quick look into my dynasty startup first-round. I know the top players aren’t usually controversial, but I believe it’s essential to understand why particular players carry such a high dynasty value. Also, I won’t include any 2021 rookie players or picks. I don’t see a Saquon Barkley-type prospect that could crack the first round of startups this year, at least not without a perfect landing spot and draft capital.

The End of an Era: Ripple Effects of the Brees and Rivers Retirements

The close of a tumultuous 2020 football season (and the entire year for that matter) and the subsequent start of 2021 has sparked feelings of optimism for many. Unfortunately, the start of 2021 always saw the end of an era play out, as Drew Brees and Philip Rivers played the final games of their illustrious careers. Many NFL fans have long been spoiled by specific players’ consistent high-quality quarterback play for much of the last two decades. Let’s take a few moments to appreciate what Brees and Rivers have accomplished.

Free Agent Focus: Allen Robinson

Free Agent Focus: Allen Robinson

It’s been a while since I last wrote an article for DFF. Between work, moving interstate, dealing with the rescheduling of a wedding, and the general hustle and bustle of life, I’ve been short on time over the past few months. Or that is what I have told myself.

It’s very easy to put something off, especially when you know there will be some effort involved, and sometimes you can let the excuses win. But I want to start 2021 right, and it’s time for me to start pulling my weight once again. The amazing team here at DFF has been smashing out content week after week, and I am fired up to get back to contributing regularly.

Super Wild Card Weekend Storylines: Saturday

I love writing these storyline pieces. Now that we’ve hit the playoffs, I want to cover all the games, bringing you at least something to think about when you watch the playoffs. Even though playoffs don’t count for our fantasy teams, playoff performances can have massive effects on future dynasty value. This piece will give you something specific to look for in each contest, which I hope helps you enjoy the games even more. We all play fantasy football to enhance our enjoyment of football, and I’m trying to add to that sense of happiness here. Fun is the most essential part of this hobby for all of us, including me. I’ve listed the home team first for each game to keep things organized. For this week, I’ll cover the Saturday games in one article and the Sunday games in another. I won’t waste any more time, so let’s jump straight in!
