2023 Rookie QB Analytics: Stetson Bennett

Rookie scouting season is approaching and what better way to prepare than to get a head start on your league mates and get to work before the NFL season ends? In this series, I will go through my process and scout each of the potential incoming rookie QBs for the 2023 class. My process is mainly through an analytical view. This means I am thinking about hit rates, range of outcomes, and probabilities. I favor these things over whether I think the player is talented because that is not only subjective but also difficult. This consistent, numbers-only process allows me to play the odds and hit more than I miss with these rookies. So follow along as I go through my first rookie, Stetson Bennett.

Zamir White: 2022 Dynasty Profile

Zamir White was the number one RB in his class coming out of high school and a top-ten national recruit before signing with the Georgia Bulldogs. “Zeus,” as he was called, unfortunately, tore his ACL late in his senior season, however, and then tore his other ACL in August 2018, which caused him to redshirt the fall. He worked hard and overcame these injuries, rushing for 408 yards and three TDs on 78 carries in 2019, playing behind D’Andre Swift.

2022 DFF Draft Coverage: Nakobe Dean

Nakobe Dean came in and produced as a true freshman at Georgia, earning the team’s Co-Defensive Newcomer of the Year Award (25 tackles, 1.5 for loss, two pass breakups). He led the Bulldogs with 71 tackles (1.5 sacks) in his first season as a full-time starter as a sophomore. Dean played through a torn labrum in his shoulder that season. In 2021, Dean was a first-team Associated Press All-American and All-SEC selection after recording 72 tackles, a team-high 10.5 for loss with six sacks, two interceptions (one returned for a TD), six pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 15 starts for the national champions.

2022 Draft Coverage: Zamir White

Zamir White was the number one RB in his class coming out of high school and a top-ten national recruit. “Zeus” had torn an ACL late in his senior season, however, and then tore his other ACL in August 2018, which caused him to redshirt the fall. White returned for the 2019 season and earned the school’s David Jacobs Award for overcoming injury by playing in 13 games and rushing 78 times for 408 yards and three TDs. White started all 10 games in 2020, leading the Bulldogs with 779 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 144 carries. He also caught six passes for 37 yards. In 2021, White led the national champions with 856 rushing yards and 11 scores on 160 carries while catching nine passes for 75 yards in 15 games (12 starts).

2022 DFF Draft Coverage: Jordan Davis

Another former Freshman All-American drafted in the first round here, Davis started four games in his true freshman season before becoming a regular starter as a sophomore. He stayed for his senior season and dominated everyone he played up front. Davis won the Chuck Bednarik Award and also won the Outland Trophy as one of the top defenders in the country. He posted 5.5 TFLs and two sacks in his senior season while being double and sometimes triple-teamed every play.

2022 DFF Draft Coverage: Travon Walker

Travon Walker was a five-star recruit coming out in 2019. He was named to the Freshman All-SEC Team in his first year at Georgia with 15 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, and 2.5 sacks as a true freshman. He played as a reserve in 2020 with decent numbers before becoming a lynchpin on the edge for the National Champion Georgia Bulldogs in 2021. He recorded 37 stops, 7.5 TFLs with six sacks, and two pass breakups.

George Pickens: 2021 Devy Profile

In his true freshman season, Pickens caught 37 passes for 552 yards and seven TDs. Within the context of the Georgia offense, he accounted for 19.2% of their receiving yardage and 30.4% of their receiving scoring. This equates to a 24.8% dominator rating and a 21.5% adjusted dominator rating. Pickens also averaged 1.43 yards per team pass attempt. While these figures do not surpass the 25% dominator rating threshold for a true breakout, within the context of the season one could argue that he did break out.

2020: The Year of “Tanking for Trevor” and “Failing for Fields”

Trevor Lawrence is perhaps the best quarterback prospect ever. Coming out of high school Lawrence was rated the second-highest among quarterbacks behind only Vince Young historically. The 6’6” and 220 lbs. Clemson superstar led his team to a National Championship as a true freshman over the great Alabama Crimson Tide. To this date, Lawrence has led his Tigers to a 27-1 record with the sole loss coming against the best statistical offense in college football history. In those 28 games, Lawrence has thrown for a ridiculous 70 TDs versus only 12 interceptions, which is good for a 5.8 TD to interception ratio. He also averages 8.9-yards per attempt, and amazingly all of these statistics are going to increase in a conference only play season. NFL draft experts Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, and Dane Brugler all have Lawrence as the first overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Georgia Bulldogs 2020 IDP Recruiting Class

The Georgia Bulldogs ended National Signing day with the #1 ranked overall class and the #1 SEC class, according to 247 Sports Composite. The Bulldogs were able to hold off the serious challenges by Alabama and Clemson. While there are still a few prospects to sign, it looks as if Georgia wan the 2020 race! Let’s take a closer look at the defensive prospects that have committed to them in this class.
